The Adaptation of the Buddhist Death Acceptance Scale for Vietnamese Persons with Cancer

Purpose This study reports on selected psychometric properties of the adapted Buddhist Death Acceptance Scale (BDAS) for Vietnamese persons with cancer. Methods The original 13-item BDAS was developed based on Buddhist perspectives toward death and life and was translated from Thai into Vietnamese. Item content checking with five Vietnamese local experts suggested three items of the original BDAS were irrelevant in Vietnamese culture and hence should be excluded. Psychometric properties of the 10-item BDAS Vietnamese version were tested using a convenience sample of 193 Vietnamese Buddhists with cancer. Results The internal consistency coefficient of the scale was found to be 0.73. Exploratory factor analysis showed that the 10 items of the BDAS Vietnamese version constituted 2 factors, explaining 51.1% of the variance of death acceptance. The first factor was “acceptance of natural process of death” and the second was “preparing for death.” Both factors reflected explicitly Buddhist viewpoints toward death acceptance and were consistent with the original Thai BDAS. However, although similar factors were found, some items in the Vietnamese BDAS did not load to same factors as in the Thai BDAS. Conclusions The BDAS Vietnamese version provides an initial suitable measurement for death acceptance among Vietnamese Buddhists. Its availability will enable cross-cultural research to investigate death acceptance among Buddhist patients with cancer in Vietnam. However, the differences in item loadings between the Thai and Vietnamese scales suggest that further conceptual and empirical works to refine the measurement are needed.

This paper proposes an adaptive frequency control strategy for the unidirectional DC/DC converter based on Dual-bridge LLC (DBLLC) resonant converter to eliminate the circulating interval (CI), which causes high conduction loss. The LLC resonant converters are the preferred choice to select of DC/DC converter topology for on-board charger (OBC) due to it provides many advantages such as high efficiency, high power density. The DBLLC resonant converter operating with variable frequency and the pulse width-modulated (PWM) control will be applied as an isolated stage (DC/DC converter) of 400V-7.4 kW to improve the power density and efficiency of the whole system. The advantage of operating at the adaptive frequency is that the conduction loss in all devices will be reduced, while the soft switching technique is still achieved over the full load range. Furthermore, the detailed CI characteristic along with losses analysis is presented. The topology is designed for 400 VDC input to 220-380VDC output conversion, in the power range from 3.3 kW to 7.4kW. All theoretical analysis and the experimental results on the proposed converter are provided to verify the system performance.

This paper presents the real-time water tank wireless control in a ship using duplex RF modules and PLC(Programmable logic Controller). The purpose of this paper is developing HMI(Human Machine Interface) for automation equipments. The system can low a cost because long wires are no more used. Analog signals of the water gauge and now meter are changed to discrete signals by the micro-processor. The PLC checks the volume of water and runs On or Off of the valve and pump. Duplex RF modules send and receive data between the water tank and control room. Evervwhere the Internet is used. operators are able to check the status of the system bv the web-server.

Urchin-like nanostructures of ZnO were synthesized by one-step hydrothermal method and their morphology was optimized via the hydrothermal temperature - the key parameter in controlling the morphologies of the ZnO materials. The photoabsorbance of the urchin-like ZnO nanomaterials was expanded from the intrinsic UV absorption range to the visible region by depositing the plasmonic Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) on the ZnO surface. The synthesized visible-active AuNPs-ZnO urchin-like composite material showed an excellent photocatalytic activity. As a result of the shape effect, the impact of the AuNPs on the photocatalytic activity of the urchin-like ZnO is found to increase about 30% in comparison to that of the reported conventional ZnO nanorods.

<P>In the dynamic spectrum access (DSA), pricing is an efficient approach providing economic incentives for operators, whereas load balancing yields congestion-avoidance incentives for secondary users (SUs). Despite complexities of 1) the couplings among pricing, load balancing, and SUs' spectrum access decision, and 2) the heterogeneity of primary users' traffic and SUs classes/types, we tackle the joint load balancing and pricing problem to maximize operators' revenue in two cognitive radio markets: monopoly and duopoly. For the monopoly market, we first show there exists a unique SUs' equilibrium arrival rate to the monopolist's channels. We then show that the joint problem can be solved efficiently by exploiting its convex structure. For the duopoly market, we first characterize a unique SUs' equilibrium arrival rate to two operators employing different DSA approaches. When two operators are noncooperative, we show that there exists a unique Nash equilibrium for each operator's revenue. When they are cooperative, we show that the social revenue optimization can achieve a unique optimal solution. Using the Nash bargaining framework, we also present a sharing contract that determines the optimal fraction of the social revenue for each operator. In both markets, we propose two algorithms that can find the largest SU class supportable by the operators.</P>

<P>In this paper, a backward diffusion problem for a space-fractional diffusion equation with a nonlinear source in a strip is investigated. This problem is obtained from the classical diffusion equation by replacing the second-order space derivative with a Riesz-Feller derivative of order alpha is an element of (0, 2]. A nonlinear problem is severely ill -posed, therefore we propose two new modified regularization solutions to solve it. We further show that the approximated problems are well-posed and their solutions converge if the original problem has a classical solution. In addition, the convergence estimates are presented under a priori bounded assumption of the exact solution. <P>In this paper, a novel framework is proposed to jointly optimize user association and resource allocation in the uplink cognitive femtocell network (CFN). In the considered CFN, femtocell base stations (FBSs) are deployed to serve a set of femtocell user equipments (FUEs) by reusing subchannels used in a macrocell base station (MBS). The problem of joint user association, subchannel assignment, and power allocation is formulated as an optimization problem, in which the goal is to maximize the overall uplink throughput while guaranteeing FBSs overloading avoidance, data rate requirements of the served FUEs, and MBS protection. To solve this problem, a distributed framework based on the matching game is proposed to model and analyze the interactions between the FUEs and FBSs. Using this framework, distributed algorithms are developed to enable the CFN to make decisions about user association, subchannel allocation, and transmit power. The algorithms are then shown to converge to a stable matching and exhibit a low computational complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed approach yields a performance improvement in terms of the overall network throughput and outage probability, with a small number of iterations to converge.</P>

<P>Pricing is an effective approach for spectrum access control in cognitive radio (CR) networks. In this paper, we study the pricing effect on the equilibrium behaviors of selfish secondary users' (SUs') data packets which are served by a CR base station (BS). From the SUs' point of view, a spectrum access decision on whether to join the queue of the BS or not is characterized through an individual optimal strategy that is joining the queue with a joining probability. This strategy also requires each SU to know the average queueing delay, which is a non-trivial problem. Toward this end, we provide queueing delay analysis by using the M/G/1 queue with breakdown. From the BS's point of view, we consider a duopoly market based on the two paradigms: the opportunistic dynamic spectrum access (O-DSA) and the mixed O-DSA & dedicated dynamic spectrum access (D-DSA). In the first paradigm, two co-located opportunistic-spectrum BSs utilize freely spectrum-holes to serve SUs. Then, we show the advantages of the cooperative scenario due to the unique solution that can be obtained in a distributed manner by using the dual decomposition algorithms. For the second paradigm, there are one opportunistic-spectrum BS and one dedicated-spectrum BS. We study a price competition between two BSs as a Stackelberg game. The cooperative behavior between two BSs is modeled as a bargaining game. In both paradigms, bargain revenues of the cooperation are always higher than those due to competition in both cases. Extensive numerical analysis is used to validate our derivation.</P>
