Binary chemical reaction with activation energy in rotating flow subject to nonlinear heat flux and heat source/sink

        M. Ijaz Khan,Tehreem Nasir,T. Hayat,Niaz B. Khan,A. Alsaedi 한국CDE학회 2020 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.7 No.3

Time-dependent rotating flow in presence of heat source/sink, applied magnetic field, Joule heating, thermal radiation, and viscous dissipation is considered. Chemical reaction with Arrhenius activation energy is implemented. The governing partial differential equations have been reduced to ordinary differential systems. Shooting scheme is implemented for the computations of governing systems. Graphical results are arranged for velocity, temperature, and concentration, skin friction coefficients, and heat and mass transfer rates. Main results are mentioned in conclusion portion. It is analyzed that velocity decays in the presence of magnetic variable while temperature and concentration fields are enhanced via Eckert number and fitted rate constant. Moreover drag force and mass and heat transfer rates decrease through higher estimations of rotation rate variable, magnetic parameter, and Eckert number.

Effect of extraction methods on structural, physiochemical and functional properties of dietary fiber from defatted walnut flour

        Gul Mali Khan,Nasir Mehmood Khan,Zia Ullah Khan,Farman Ali,Abdul Khaliq Jan,Nawshad Muhammad,Rizwan Elahi 한국식품과학회 2018 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.27 No.4

The effect of different extraction methods i.e. extraction with alkali (AEDF), enzyme (EEDF) and enzyme plus shear emulsifying hydrolysis (SEDF) on structure, physiochemical as well as the functional characteristics of dietary fiber (DF) from defatted walnut flour were studied. AEDF process showed significantly higher (P\0.05) amount of water retention capacity (WRC; 5.39 g/g), water swelling capacity (WSC; 3.16 g/mL), and particle size; while, shown lower value of oil adsorption capacity (OAC; 29 g/g) amongst all. Compared to AEDF, no major differences were observed in network except the matrix in EEDF and SEDF was more porous and honey comb like. DF extracted through AEDF, EEDF and SEDF showed good viscosity and emulsifying activity however, less stability indices. The results from this study suggest that AEDF and EEDF and SEDF had specific effects on the structure-functional properties of DF from defatted walnut flour, which has great potential in food applications.

Management of Irq-Un-Nasa (Sciatica) by Fasd (Venesection): A Case Report

Khan, Fatima,Nayab, Mohd,Ansari, Abdul Nasir Cellmed Orthocellular Medicine and Pharmaceutical 2022 셀메드 (CellMed) Vol.12 No.2

Objectives: Sciatica is a musculoskeletal pain sensed in the leg along with the distribution of the sciatic nerve, which is sometimes accompanied by low back pain and is most commonly caused by a disc herniation. In the Unani system of Medicine, Irq-un-Nasa (Sciatica) is defined as the pain which starts from the hip joint and descends towards the foot. It is a type of Waja-ul-Mafasil which is developed due to the accumulation of Khilt-e-Dam or Khilt-e-Balgham ghaleez in the hip joint. The conventional system of Medicine offers several medications and surgeries to manage sciatica with limited clinical evidence of effectiveness. These cases aim to provide insight into the effects of Fasd (Venesection) in Irq-un-Nasa. Case Presentation: Fasd was performed in the saphena minor vein of two clinically diagnosed patients with sciatica after the initial assessment. Two sittings of Fasd, once a week in each patient, were performed, followed by telephonic assessments for two months. The intensity of sciatic pain reduced with subsequent sittings of Fasd, and there was no recurrence of any symptoms and signs again during complete follow-up. Conclusion: Based on the results of the present case report, it appears that such cases of Irq-un-Nasa can be managed with Fasd, and the quality of life of such patients can also be improved.

Abstract

Present work aims to investigate the thermal performance assessment of different combinations of working fluids for an Organic Rankine Cycle powered Vapor Compression Cycle (ORC-VCC) for air-conditioning applications. Analysis of system performance is conducted for a fixed cooling load of a small conditioned space having a sensible heat factor of 0.7, at different ambient conditions. A preliminary evaluation of the system at the baseline conditions was conducted considering the second law efficiency, overall heat capacity of exchangers, overall internal exergy destruction, and overall Coefficient of Performance. Afterwards, parametric study was performed for the best performing candidates from the preliminary analysis using second law efficiency and overall heat capacity of heat exchangers. The system parameters considered for the study include saturated temperatures of heat exchangers, ORC boiler superheat, pinch points and the sub-cooling of both the ORC and VCC condensers. Then, multi objective optimization was performed using Genetic Algorithm followed by multi-criteria decision-making using Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to select the best optimal solutions from the Pareto front. Sixteen combinations comprising of four working fluids, R245fa, R600, R600a, and R134a were analyzed. The optimization results showed R245fa ORC-R600a VCC to be the best candidate at ambient conditions of 30 °C, while at 35 °C and 40 °C, R600a ORC-R245fa VCC was found to be the most suitable candidate.

Highlights

The prospects of different working fluids and their combinations in an ORC driven air conditioning system are investigated.

Ambient conditions considering the outdoor temperatures of 30 °C, 35 °C and 40 °C with 50% relative humidity is selected.

Working fluids R245fa, R134a, R600a, and R600, and their combinations are the investigated.

Sensitivity analysis of different parameters on the second law efficiency and UA values of heat exchangers is evaluated.

Multi-objective optimization of the exergetic efficiency and the UA values of heat exchangers is carried out.

Toxicity of seventeen insecticides to Camponotus sericeus (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

        Khan Hafiz Azhar Ali,Zafar Rabia,Nasir Iqra 한국응용곤충학회 2021 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.24 No.1

The success of chemical control depends on toxicity of insecticides against insect pests. Camponotus sericeus is an important urban pest with the ability to cause substantial damage to wooden structures, but there is a lack of information on toxicity of insecticides against C. sericeus. To determine the insecticide toxicity, workers of C. sericeus were exposed to 17 insecticides from different classes: carbamate (methomyl, bendiocarb), organo phosphate (chlorpyrifos, profenofos, temephos), pyrethroid (bifenthrin, deltamethrin, permethrin), neon icotinoid (acetamiprid, imidacloprid, thiamethoxam), avermectin (abamectin, emamectin), pyrrole (chlorfenapyr), phenylpyrazole (fipronil), and spinosyn (spinosad and spinetoram), via residual bioassay method. The LC 50 ranged from: 0.15 to 0.20 µg/vial for carbamates, 0.09 to 0.27 µg/vial for organophosphates, 0.09 to 0.44 µg/vial for pyrethroids, 0.02 to 0.67 µg/vial for neonicotinoids, 0.54 to 0.82 µg/vial for avermectins, 0.78 µg/vial for pyrrole, 0.62 µg/vial for phenylpyrazole, and 1.96 to 2.05 µg/vial for spinosyns. Overall, acetamiprid was the most toxic one among the tested insecticides followed by permethrin, temephos, profenofos, bendiocarb and methomyl, while spinosad and spinetoram were the least toxic insecticides. Considering the potential toxicity of different insecticides against C. sericeus, future studies could investigate the practical application of these insecticides in order to design an effective management plan.
