      • Nanoporous Silicon Metal-Semiconductor-Metal Visible Light Photodetector

Narin Atiwongsangthong 제어로봇시스템학회 2010 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.10

In this research, we present the study on the application of nanoporous silicon for optoelectronic device which called nanoporous silicon metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) visible light photodetector in this paper. This device was fabricated on nanoporous silicon layer which was formed by electrochemical etching of silicon wafer in hydrofluoric acid solution under various anodization condition such as the resistivity of silicon wafer, current density, concentration of hydrofluoric acid solution and anodization time. The structure of this device has two square Al/nanoporous silicon Schottky-barrier junctions on the silicon substrate and the electrode spacing is 500 μm. The experiment will study on photoresponse and responsetime of nanoporous silicon MSM photodetector which was fabricated on various porosity of nanoporous silicon layer. It is found that when devices fabricated on higher porosity nanoporous silicon layer, the photoresponse of device will expand toward the short-wavelength and bandwidth of spectum response will cover visible light. In addition, it is found that responsetime of device decreases.

Performance Evaluation of a Coordinate Measuring Machine’s Axis using a High-Frequency Repetition Mode of a Mode-Locked Fiber Laser

Narin Chanthawong,Satoru Takahashi,Kiyoshi Takamasu,Hirokazu Matsumoto 한국정밀공학회 2014 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

We developed a multi-Fabry-Pérot etalon (multi-FPE) for selecting high-frequency parts of repetition-frequency modes of a shortpulsemode-locked fiber laser at the wavelength of 1.55 mm. The 5-GHz repetition-modified laser beam is transmitted to a fiber-typeMichelson interferometer. The interference fringes exhibit a temporal coherence pattern and can be used for measuring spatialpositioning. The performance of CMM’s axis was determined directly from different positions of two interference fringes.

      • Relationships between Malignant Melanoma and Chromosome Damage in Human Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes

Narin, Abdullah,Tuncay, Orta Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.10

The incidence of malignant melanoma increases with age. One significiant effect of aging processes is an accumulation of oxidative damage in the genetical material. In this study, the relationship between malignant melanoma and damage in chromosomes and proliferative effectiveness of human peripheral lymphocytes were investigated by the micronucleus (MN) technique. A total of 15 malignant melanoma patients and appropriately matching 15 healthy controls were involved in the study. MN frequencies and proliferative indexes (PI) after non toxic levels of hydrogen peroxide treatment were also measured to determine damaging effect of oxidative stress in genome in addition to measuring the spontenous levels of micronuclei and PI. The patient group had a significantly higher rate of spontaneous MN than the control group (p<0.01). After treatment with $H_2O_2$, MN frequencies in the patient group was significantly decreased (p<0.01) although there was no difference between the treated and untreated results of control group (p=0.29). There was also difference (p<0.01) between the MN frequencies of the patient and the control group either in the spontaneous levels or in the $H_2O_2$ treated groups. The same significant difference persisted when the PI values were compared between patient and control groups. Increase in the MN frequency in patients could mean the alterations in the chromosomal structure which may lead to the chromosome instability and therefore genetic susceptibility to cancer. This increased number of micronuclei can also be used for cytological marker in identifying high risk cases for malignant melanoma.

      • Characteristics of Liver Cancer at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Narin, Piseth,Hamajima, Nobuyuki,Kouy, Samnang,Hirosawa, Tomoya,Eav, Sokha Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.1

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most frequent cancers in South East Asian countries including Cambodia, where prevalence of chronic carriers of hepatitis B and C virus (HBV and HCV) is reported to be very high. We reviewed HCC cases admitted to a cancer hospital in Phnom Penh, which is the only one hospital for cancer treatment and care in Cambodia during the study period. Materials and Methods: Information was collected from medical records of 281 cases (210 males and 71 females) diagnosed as primary HCC from 2006 to 2011. Results: The subjects were 7-81 years old with a median age of 53 years. Hypochondriac pain was the most common complained symptom (74%). One third of the cases presented with jaundice. Nearly half had ascites at their first visit. One third had liver cirrhosis. Nearly three fourths of the cases presented with tumor sized more than 50 mm in diameter, and in almost all cases (97.4%) the size was more than 20 mm. Among 209 subjects tested, hepatitis virus carriers were 75.6%; 46.4% for HBV only, 21.5% for HCV only, and 7.7% for both viral infections. Median age of patients with HBV was about ten years younger than those with HCV. Conclusions: This study revealed the characteristics of HCC cases in Cambodia, although there were several limitations. Most HCC cases were infected with HBV and/or HCV, and diagnosed at late stages with complications. This implicated that public health intervention to prevent HBV and HCV infection is of high priority.

Poverty and Vulnerability: An Examination of Chronic and Transient Poverty in Cambodia

Narin Kruy,김동훈,Makoto Kakinaka 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2010 International Area Studies Review Vol.13 No.4

This paper estimates household vulnerability to poverty using the data of households in Cambodia. In particular, we classify the poor into two main groups, the chronic poor and the transient poor, based on two measures, poverty incidence and vulnerability. The results suggest that, at the national level, among currently poor households (which comprise 24.8% of all households), the chronic poor and the transient poor amount to 6.3 percent and 18.5 percent, respectively. Additionally, 3.4 percent of all households appear to be subject to high risk of falling into poverty, although their current rate of consumption is above the poverty line.

Effect of different arch widths on the accuracy of three intraoral scanners

Kaewbuasa, Narin,Ongthiemsak, Chakree The Korean Academy of Prosthodonitics 2021 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.13 No.4

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of three intraoral scanner (IOS) systems with three different dental arch widths. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three dental models with different intermolar widths (small, medium, and large) were attached to metal bars of different lengths (30, 40, and 50 mm). The bars were measured with a coordinate measuring machine and used as references. Three IOSs were compared: TRIOS 3 (TRI), True Definition (TD), and Dental Wings (DW). The relative length and angular deviation of both ends of the metal bars from the scan data set (n = 15) were calculated and analyzed. RESULTS. Comparing among scanners in terms of trueness, the relative length deviation of DW in the small (1.28%) and medium (1.08%) arches were significantly higher than TRI (0.46% and 0.48%) and TD (0.33% and 0.18%). The angular deviation of DW in the small (1.75°) and medium (1.83°) arches were also significantly greater than TRI (0.63° and 0.40°) and TD (0.55° and 0.89°). Comparing within scanner, the large arch of DW showed better accuracy than other arch sizes (P < .05). On the other hand, the larger arch of TD presented a greater tendency of angular deviation in terms of trueness. No significant differences were found in terms of trueness between the arch widths of TRI group. CONCLUSION. The different widths of the dental arches can affect the accuracy of some intraoral scanners in full arch scan.

The Idea of an “Asian Monetary Fund”: The Problems of Financial Institutionalism in the Asia-Pacific

Shaun Narine 경남대학교 극동문제연구소 2003 ASIAN PERSPECTIVE Vol.27 No.2

Asian observers attribute the Asian economic crisis of 1997-1999 to the instability inherent in the global financial system. In response, Asians have discussed creating an Asian Monetary Fund (AMF) to manage future financial crises and have demanded the reform of the global financial architecture. However, the New International Financial Architecture (NIFA) developed since the crisis fails to address the fundamental sources of instability in the present global financial system. This system poses economic and ideological threats to the stability of East Asia. Therefore, regional states have powerful incentives to create an effective AMF. However, traditional security concerns, historical grievances, and political rivalries between the major Asia-Pacific powers limit the prospects of regional cooperation. Under these conditions, it is unlikely that East Asian states can create an effective regional financial institution. However, Asian states still need to protect themselves from global financial volatility. They will probably pursue this goal through bilateral and multilateral arrangements with the regional powers. The Asia-Pacific will maintain a distinctive East Asian political economy.
