Effect of Partial Magnetic Order on Resistivity and Thermopower of Ho(Co1−xAlx)2 Alloys

The electrical resistivity and the thermopower S of Ho(Co1−xAlx)2 alloys (x = 0 to 0.2) weremeasured at temperatures from 2 K to 300 K in magnetic fields up to 10 T. While (T) and S(T)of pure HoCo2 reveal abrupt changes at the magnetic ordering temperature TC, indicating a firstordertransition, the temperature variations of both properties across the ordering temperature inHo(Co1−xAlx)2 alloys clearly show that the type of magnetic transition changes under substitutionof Al for Co from first order to second order around x 0.06. (T) of the Al-substituted samples (x= 0.15 and 0.2) has a very unusual variation at temperatures below TC: in contrast to the expectedand usually-observed decrease of (T), the resistivity of Ho(Co1−xAlx)2 alloys (x = 0.15 and 0.2)increases at temperatures below TC. Moreover, the magnetoresistance of these alloys is positivearound TC; this is also in a sharp contrast to the usually observed negative magnetoresistance. We show that the anomalous resistivity and magnetoresistance in these alloys are related to themetamagnetic instability of the Co 3d subsystem and to the fluctuating local magnetic susceptibilitydue to atomic substitution. Due to this fluctuating local magnetic susceptibility, the uniformexchange field of 4f moments induces a non-uniform polarization of the 3d system, with staticspatial fluctuations of the local magnetization. This static magnetic disorder gives an additionalcontribution (m) to the electrical resistance in the alloys at temperatures below TC. The degreeof this disorder changes with decreasing temperature, resulting in specific variation of m withtemperature.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We have measured the proton energy distribution from the <SUP>4</SUP>He(stopped <SUP>K−</SUP>,p) reaction by means of time-of-flight. A mono-energetic peak was observed, which is interpreted as the formation of a new kind of neutral tribaryon S<SUP>0</SUP>(3115) with isospin T=1 and strangeness S=−1. The mass and width of the state were deduced to be 3117.0−4.4+1.5MeV/<SUP>c2</SUP> and <21MeV/<SUP>c2</SUP>, respectively. The state mainly decays into ΣNN.</P>
韓國과 日本의 家庭敎育 形態에 대한 比較文化的 硏究 : 한국의 濟州道와 일본의 沖繩縣을 대상으로 on Jejudo in Korea and Okinawa in Japan

The present study was aimed to investigate the patterns of home education between Jejudo in Korea and Okinawa in Japan on the perspectives of cross-cultural viewpoint The subjects of the present study were 4718 fathers in Korea and Japan (Jejudo 2562, Okinawa 2156) who have school boys and girls. The results of the present stady were as follows: (1) Fathers in Korea were closer to 'inconsistency-discord pattern' in the rearing attitude than those of Japan. (2) Fathers in Korea had the consciousness and attitude of 'home centered-chidren centered' in the lives at home and soial activities. On the other hand, fathers in Japan had the tendency of pursuing the practical things such as stability of life and higher status. (3) Fathers in Korea had more concern to their children's school achievement than those of Japan. (4) Fathers in Korea had the positive attitude for men to take complete charge of house keeping and child-rearing than fathers in Japan. But, the level of practical performance of fathers in Korea was lower than that of fathers in Japan. (5) Fathers in Korea had stress on the strengthening of function of home education to bring up their children samely. But, fathers in Japan had stress on the social efforts to remove social environment harmful to adolescent.

In the Large Helical Device (LHD), some reactor-oriented experiments, i.e. high beta, high ion temperature, steady state operation, have produced remarkable progress in recent experimental campaigns. By optimizing the rotational transform, an average beta value of 4.3 %, which is the highest on record for helical devices, was achieved. The ICRF sustained steady-state discharges for more than 30 minutes, these were also successfully performed with the aid of the magnetic axis swing technique for the reduction of the heat load to the plasma-facing component. In the discharge, the total input energy to the plasma reached 1.3 GJ, which also established a new record.1

The five-year national project in Japan for R&D of coated conductors and applications, named as the Materials and Power Applications of Coated Conductors (M-PACC) project, was finished at the end of FY2013. The project consists of four sub-themes as cable, transformer, SMES and coated conductors. In the theme of coated conductors, the fabrication process had been developed to satisfy the requirements from the applications such as in-field $I_c$ performance, low AC loss in the long tapes etc. Through the project, the remarkable progress was achieved as follows; a high in-field minimum $I_c$ value over 54A/cm-width under 3T at 77K was realized in a 200m long EuBCO tape with artificial pinning centers of $BaHfO_3$ by the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique on the IBAD template. On the other hand, the AC loss reduction was confirmed in the tapes fabricated by both PLD and the metal organic deposition (MOD) techniques by scribing 100m tapes into 10-filamments. Additionally, the mechanism of the delamination phenomenon was systematically investigated and the strength was improved by eliminating the origins of the weak points in the films. Through the development, all targeted goals were accomplished and the several results were appreciated as a world champion data.

The superconducting permanent current switch (PCS) is an important component to build MRI system This switch uses a theimal and / or magnetic super-to-normal phase tiansition of the superconductor. Unfortunately, in the past it was not designed foi using in line frequency. We made some superconducting power electronics devices operating up to 100 Hz [1]. The results of development and preliminary studying of the heat controlled S-PED up to line ft equency are presented .<br/>
