Effect of Supplementation of Rice Straw with Leucaena leucocephala and Prosopis cineraria Leaves on Nutrient Utilization by Goats

Dutta, N.,Sharma, K.,Hasan, Q.Z. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1999 Animal Bioscience Vol.12 No.5

The potential of Leucaena leucocephala and Prosopis cineraria leaves as nitrogen supplements ($16g/kg\;W^{0.75}/d$) to improve the utilization of a basal diet of rice straw by goats was assessed in a feeding trial. Rice straw supplementation with forage oats (Avena sativa) was fed as a control diet. DMI, $g/kgW^{0.75}$ of rice straw by goats receiving Leucaena was significantly (p<0.05) higher followed by Prosopis and oat fodder. The supplementation of Leucaena improved the digestibility coefficient of DM, OM, CP, NDF and ADF nutrient density. Goats on Prosopis or oat fodder supplemented straw responded similarly in terms of nutrient utilization. The intake ($g/kgW^{0.75}$) of DCP, TDN and nitrogen balance of goats were significantly higher (p<0.05) when Leucaena was fed. It is suggested that the Leucaena may be a useful N-supplement in areas where livestock are fed poor quality crop residues.

Effects of Hafnium Oxide on Surface Potential and Drain Current Models for Subthreshold Short Channel Metal–Oxide–Semiconductor-Field-Effect-Transistor

        N. P. Maity,Reshmi Maity,Subir Dutta,Subhasish Deb,K. Girija Sravani,K. Srinivasa Rao,S. Baishya 한국전기전자재료학회 2020 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.21 No.3

Surface potential and drain current models for a physically based double halo metal–oxide–semiconductor-fi eld-eff ect-transistor(MOSFET) are reported. The proposed models have been established in sub-threshold mode of MOSFET operation. The depletion layer depth used in the pseudo two dimensional Poisson’s equation comprises the effect of two symmetrical pocket implantations at both the ends of the channel region. In this effort, improvement in the investigation is brought in by taking lateral asymmetric channel owing to non-uniform doping. The conventional silicon-dioxide (SiO2) material is replaced with a promising high-k dielectric material hafnium oxide (HfO2) to analyze the surface potential and drain current models. Analytical results have been compared using Synopsys technology computer aided design (TCAD). Excellent conformities between the analytical models and simulations are observed.

Influence of Food Allowance on Nutrient Utilization of Oat (Avena sativa) Hay by Goats and Feeding Value of Leftovers from High Levels of Offer in Sheep

        Dutta, N.,Sharma, K.,Hasan, Q.Z.,Pathak, N.N. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1999 Animal Bioscience Vol.12 No.5

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of feeding levels on intake and nutrient utilization of oat (Avena sativa) hay (OH) by goats and potential feeding value of leftovers from high levels of offer in sheep. In experiment 1, the goats (15) were offered OH at three levels of feeding to give leftovers of about 20% (T-1), 35% (T-2) and 50% (T-3) of DM offered. A marked effect of refusal rate of OH on intake and digestibility of nutrients was evident. Allowing selective consumption at higher levels (T-2 and T-3), the intake of DCP and TDN from OH was found not only to meet the maintenance requirement but provided surplus nutrients for moderate production. In experiment 2, Sheep (3) were offered one of the three dietary treatments viz OH, refusals left uneaten by goats in T-2 and T-3 (OHR) and 3% urea treated oat hay refusals (UTR) in a $3{\times}3$ latin square design. Though the potential feeding value of leftovers (OHR and UTR) was lower than OH, the results confirm the possibility of their effective use. It was concluded that feeding above the conventional ad libitum level could be an alternative to improve the performance of ruminants fed feeds like oat hay. The potential impact of the strategy would, however, depend on the effective reutilization of leftovers for feeding other animals.

Estimation of Rumen Microbial Protein Supply Using Urinary Purine Derivatives Excretion in Crossbred Calves Fed at Different Levels of Feed Intake

        Singh, M.,Sharma, K.,Dutta, N.,Singh, P.,Verma, A.K.,Mehra, U.R. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2007 Animal Bioscience Vol.20 No.10

A study was carried out to study the response of total purine derivatives (PD) excretion in urine to determine microbial N (MN) supply at four fixed levels of feed intake (namely 95, 80, 60 and 40% of voluntary intake). The crossbred (CB) calves were allocated according to a $4{\times}4$ Latin Square Design and fed wheat straw and concentrate (1:1). The rate of PD excretion (mmol/d) as a linear function of feed intake was 15.85/kg DMI and 20.12/kg DOMI. Based on the endogenous and PD excretion rates obtained in this study, a relationship between daily urinary PD excretion (Y, mmol) and daily microbial protein supply (X, mmol) was developed for crossbred calves as Y = 0.83X+0.296 kg $W^{0.75}$. The derived microbial N values using this equation differed (p<0.001) among the 4 groups and was the highest in L-95 followed by L-80, L-60 and L-40. The relationship between urinary nitrogen loss (Y, g/d) and DOMI (X, kg/d) was established as: Y = 6.038X+21.753 ($r^2$ = 0.663, p<0.01). When urinary excretion of PD (Y, mmol/d) was plotted against intake of DM and DOM (X, kg/d), the equations obtained were: Y = 7.1711X+8.674 ($r^2$ = 0.889, p<0.01) and Y = 12.434X+7.683 ($r^2$ = 0.896, p<0.01), respectively. The proportional contribution of allantoin and uric acid to total PD remained stable irrespective of level of feed intake. Similarly, urinary excretion of creatinine did not differ (p>0.05) between animals fed at different levels. The MN supply was the highest to animals at intake levels L-95, and decreased linearly with corresponding decrease in feed intake. However, the MN supply when expressed per kg DOMI remained statistically (p>0.05) similar irrespective of level of intake. The results revealed that the excretion of urinary purine derivatives were positively correlated with the level of feed intake as well as rumen microbial supply and thus it could be a good indicator for measuring the microbial protein supply and nutritional status of animals.

Effect of Feed Allowance on Selection, Intake and Nutrient Utilization of Green Maize (Zea mays) by Goats

Dutta, N.,Sharma, K.,Hasan, Q.Z. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2000 Animal Bioscience Vol.13 No.4

The influence of feed allowance on intake and nutrient utilization by Barbari goats given green maize (Zea mays) and potential feeding value of left-overs were studied. The goats were offered food at 3 levels to give left-overs of about 20% (T-1), 35% (T-2) and 50% (T-3) DM of offered amount. A marked effect of refusal rate on intake and digestibility of nutrients was found. The DMI, g/kg $W^{0.75}$ increased from 39.86 in T-1 to 50.91 and 66.55 g in groups T-2 and T-3, respectively. Allowing selective consumption at higher levels (T-2 and T-3), the intake of TDN and DCP from green maize was found not only to meet the maintenance requirement but provided surplus energy and protein for substantial production. The variability in diet selectivity between goats under different treatments was pronounced. As the level of food excess increased to T-3, the left overs had a higher IVDMD and crude protein and decreased cell wall constituents (p<0.05). Considering the substantial increase in intake and digestibility from feeding green maize at high allowances to goats, further studies are needed to develop practical feeding strategies.

Effects of Aging Temperature on the Mechanical Properties and Precipitation Behavior of a Pre-strained Al–Cu–Mg–Ag Alloy

        Suman Paik,N. Naveen Kumar,B. K. Dutta,R. Tewari,P. V. Durgaprasad 대한금속ᆞ재료학회 2023 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.29 No.2

This article investigates the deformation behaviour and fracture characteristics of copper single crystals by uniaxial tensileexperiments and compares the results with crystal plasticity simulations. Quasi-static tensile tests were carried out toinclude different stress–strain states by varying the crystal orientation with respect to specimen axis after determining theinitial orientation by Electron Backscatter Diffraction. The different ductile modes of failure of single crystals due to shearafter loading were examined. Thereafter, by employing the scanning electron microscopy and theoretical slip trace analysis, orientations of slip traces of deformed crystals were determined. Experimental results were then rationalised by performingcrystal plasticity finite element simulations, presuming cross-slip and associated dislocation dissociation into partials playan influential role on the orientation dependence of the material. A continuum ductile damage criterion was coupled withplasticity on capturing the slip localisation caused by material softening. Comparison between experimentally measuredand numerically obtained stress–strain data, texture evolution and fracture angles were subsequently evaluated. An evaluationhas also been made by comparing the identities of active slip modes attained from experiments with that of determinedfrom simulations.

3-Aminotriazole protects from CoCl2-induced ototoxicity by inhibiting the generation of reactive oxygen species and proinflammatory cytokines in mice

        Lee, J. N.,Kim, S. G.,Lim, J. Y.,Dutta, R. K.,Kim, S. J.,Choe, S. K.,So, H. S.,Park, R. Springer Science + Business Media 2016 Archives of toxicology Vol.90 No.4

<P>Cobalt is an essential heavy metal that is necessary for the formation of vitamin B12 (hydroxocobalamin). However, exposure to excess cobalt for a prolonged period can harm the human body, causing pulmonary fibrosis, blindness, deafness, and peripheral neuropathy. 3-Aminotriazole (3-AT) is a catalase inhibitor that is often used to investigate the physiological effects of catalase. The present study found that injection of 3-AT in mice significantly reduced CoCl2-induced hearing impairment. In cultured organ of Corti explants from rats, 3-AT treatment protected hair cells from CoCl2-induced cytotoxicity. To determine the mechanism by which 3-AT protected from CoCl2-induced ototoxicity, we used the HEI-OC1 auditory cell line. Pretreatment with 10 mM 3-AT attenuated CoCl2-induced accumulation of ROS and induction of proinflammatory cytokine expression. Interestingly, these protective effects of 3-AT did not require catalase activity, as demonstrated by a series of experiments using RNA interference-mediated catalase knockdown in HEI-OC1 cells and using catalase-deficient mouse embryonic fibroblasts. Our results demonstrated the mechanisms of CoCl2-induced ototoxicity that may provide better ways to prevent the ototoxic effect of cobalt exposure.</P>
