Big data in nanocomposites: ONN approach and mesh-free method for functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composites

Mostafa Jalal,Rasool Moradi-Dastjerdi,Morteza Bidram 한국CDE학회 2019 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.6 No.2

In this paper, the concept of big data in composite materials for design purpose with focus on functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composites (FG-CNTRC) has been addressed through mesh-free method and an optimized neural network (ONN) approach. With this regard, mesh-free method as a robust technique was used to analyze the FG-CNTRC for vibrational frequency. The applied nanocompos-ite is made of aggregated single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) that are embedded in an isotropic polymer as matrix. The material properties are estimated based on the Eshelby–Mori–Tanaka approach. Then a new multi-step approach was used to find optimized neural network for accurate modeling of the nanocomposite which can be used for later goals of optimization and design. Computational time and accuracy of various algorithms were investigated and compared for big data modeling of nanocomposite to come up with the optimal model. Comparative study of the results was carried out to examine and compare the accuracy of the developed ONN model relative to mesh-free method. Furthermore, a comprehensive parametric study was also performed to investigate the effect of geometrical dimensions, CNT distribution and volume fraction on vibrational frequency of the nanocomposite.

Corrosion resistant self-compacting concrete using micro and nano silica admixtures

Mostafa Jalal 국제구조공학회 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.51 No.3

In this paper, enhancement of corrosion and chloride resistance of high performance self compacting concrete (SCC) through incorporating nanosilica into the binder has been investigated. For this purpose, different mixtures were designed with different amounts of silica fume and nano silica admixtures. Different binder contents were also investigated to observe the binder content effect on the concrete properties. Corrosion behavior was evaluated by chloride penetration and resitivity tests. Water absorptionand capillary absorption were also measured as other durability-related properties. The results showed that water absorption, capillary absorption and Cl ion percentage decreased rather significantly in the mixtures containing admixtures especially blend of silica fume and nano silica. By addition of the admixtures, resistivity of the SCC mixtures increased which can lead to reduction of corrosion probability.

Cuckoo search algorithm for applied structural and design optimization: Float system for experimental setups

Mostafa Jalal,Maral Goharzay 한국CDE학회 2019 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.6 No.2

In the present study, Cuckoo Search (CS) as a nature-inspired optimization algorithm was applied for structural and design optimization of a new float system for experimental setups. For this purpose, based on the setup configuration, it was tried to minimize the total length of the float, while maintaining the structural and performance-based constraints. Different geometries for the float structure were examined to come up with the feasible options. The problem was formulated into a constrained optimization in terms of four or five variables, depending on the geometry, along with two performance-based con-straints and some structural constraints. CS was used to solve the constrained optimization problem and the convergence trends of the parameters to optimal solutions were examined in details. Generalized reduced gradient (GRG) method known as GRG nonlinear was also used for validation and comparison purpose. The results of the optimization and the performance of the float produced showed that CS can be used as a powerful tool for applied structural and design problems. It should be mentioned that the float problem can be used as a benchmark structural design problem for validation of new optimization algorithms. Besides, the optimal float can be produced for various experimental setups with different structures and constraints, depending on the application.

Rotorcraft Flight Regime Recognition in Complex Maneuvers Using Adaptive Extended Kalman Filter

Mostafa Khazaee,Iman Jahandideh,Jalal Karimi,Sayyed Majid Hosseini 한국항공우주학회 2023 International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sc Vol.24 No.3

The retirement time of helicopter components can be extended using the health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) and revisiting the flight spectrum with enough precision through fatigue damage analysis. The recognition of flight regimes for air vehicles with complex maneuvers is a major problem in determining the experienced spectrum. The relationship between flight variables and regimes is complex and coupled during a mission profile with multiple maneuvers that needs more efficient algorithms. In this paper, a logical framework is developed to identify the complex maneuvers based on the qualitative and descriptive interpretation of each maneuver by the pilot. The regime recognition criteria are implemented in the algorithm using an adaptive extended Kalman filter with both flight instruments and control movements as the measurements. The proposed algorithm classifies the flight regimes into the standard fatigue spectrum while needing no large amount of training data and not being sensitive to pilot behavior and mission variations. The proposed regime recognition algorithm is evaluated through extensive simulation of a comprehensive dynamic model of helicopter flight. The results show the improved accuracy of the proposed method in comparison with that of previous ones, while the proposed method is easier to embed in HUMS software without exhaustive training.

Mechanical and Rheological Properties of Glass Fiber-Reinforced Flowable Mortar (GFRFM): Optimization Using Taguchi Method

Wen Xu,Mostafa Jalal,Linbing Wang 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.1

In this study, an attempt was made to link the strength to the rheological properties of glass fiber-reinforced flowable mortar (GFRFM), and optimize the strength using the Taguchi method. With this regard, first the main factors influencing the rheology, including superplasticizer (SP) ratio, water-binder ratio (w/b), and fiber volume percentage (Vol.%) were identified. Then, by setting three levels for each factor and using L9 Taguchi array, 9 groups of experiments were designed and conducted on GFRFM mixes. The rheology of each mix was measured using the mini slump and mini V-funnel tests, and the strength was measured using compression and split tensile tests. Afterwards, the analysis of variance (ANOVA), optimization, and prediction of the mechanical and rheological properties were performed. Finally, the optimum levels of the factors for the maximum strength were found as SP = 16 mL/kg of binder, fiber Vol.% = 0.5, and w/b = 0.35, and the corresponding rheological properties were determined. It was found that the optimum rheology occurs between the minimum and maximum values. Microstructural assessment of the mixes conducted using scanning electron microscope (SEM) also indicated a denser microstructure of the optimum mix.

Adherence to Healthy Diet Can Delay Alzheimer’s Diseases Development: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

        Shima Moradi,Jalall Moloudi,Mehdi Moradinazar,Diana Sarokhani,Seyyed Mostafa Nachvak,Mehnoosh Samadi 한국식품영양과학회 2020 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.25 No.4

A healthy diet has long been indicated to be protective against Alzheimer’s diseases (AD). We carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis of published observational studies to explore the relationship between healthy and unhealthy diets and risk of ADs. We screened PubMed, Scopus, Web of Sciences, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and Embase, and screened manually to identify relevant articles published in English and non-English until Jun 2020. We classified the studied dietary patterns into two groups: healthy and unhealthy diets. The pooled weighted mean difference and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was used to analyze the data using a random-effects model. The data were extracted manually and the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis checklist was used to appraise the risk of bias and quality of data. Of the 1,813 articles identified, 21 met the inclusion criteria and were included in the quantitative analysis. A healthy diet was related to a lower risk of AD [odds ratio (OR): 0.45, 95% CI: 0.23 to 0.86, I2=99.7%; n=17 studies]. Moreover, high adherence to an unhealthy diet was not associated with increased risk of AD (OR: 0.99, 95% CI: 0.98 to 0.99, I2=0.0%; n=6 studies). However, the etiology of AD is uncertain and it is difficult draw conclusions about dietary healthy patterns. We concluded that adherence to a healthy diet is associated with a lower risk of AD, but were unable to find evidence that an unhealthy diet increases the risk of AD.

( Badrieh Sahargahi ),( Hadi Abdollahzad ),( Jalal Moludi ),( Seyed Mostafa Nachvak ),( Yahya Pasdar ),( Mohammad Reza Naderi ),( Mansour Rezaei ) 한국임상영양학회 2018 Clinical Nutrition Research Vol.7 No.3

Examining the trend of anthropometric indices in children and adolescents in each region can be highly beneficial in providing effective strategies to improve the status of their growth. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the trend of anthropometric indices in students from primary to high school in the west of Iran. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and health certificates for anthropometric information of primary school students, and current anthropometric measurements with scale for high school students. Then, all of the data were analyzed in AnthroPlus and SPSS software. Of the 731 students, 350 were female and 381 were male. Mean height Z-score to age showed a significant reduction from primary to high school (from +0.0386 to -0.27416), and mean body mass index Z-score to age showed a significant increase (from -0.3916 to +0.1826). Prevalence of stunting and overweight/obesity in high school was 1.4 and 2.5 times higher than primary school, respectively, but the prevalence of wasting reduced by 2.3 fold. Girls were more affected by the increased trend of obesity and stunting compared to boys. Nutritional transition was evident in students. Healthcare policy-makers should design and implement a comprehensive health strategy to deal with this situation, especially in girls.
