While most of adults in the past thought that marriage was compulsory, now marriage is considered not as compulsory but as optional, which is being on a decreasing trend. Accordingly, their intention to marry, time and motive of marriage depend on the individual situation or preference rather than the standardized and uniform way. This study was conducted to analyze the intention of unmarried men and women to marriage more concretely and in depth. The survey of 316 students who took a course of 'Marriage and Family' in Chung-Ang University was conducted with a way of self-description as a method for a qualitative survey to analyze their consciousness to marriage more deeply, classifying into a total of four questions. The findings of the survey were as follows. First, in terms of the intention to marriage, 93.0% of the responders answered "I will marry", indicating the majority of the students were considering marriage positive. In addition to it, in terms of the connection of love and marriage, 61.0% of the responders answered love and marriage were connected with each other, compared to 34.0% who answered seperate. Second, in terms of the motive of marriage, realization of love topped, followed by a valuable thing, emotional stability, providing for their old age, economic stability, independence from their parents and happy married life of their parents. Third, in terms of the reason to choose single, freedom topped, following by concern at change of love, unnecessity of marriage, burden on a new family, negative image to marriage, description and escape from reality, economic responsibility and the cumbersome processes of marriage.

Many arthritis patients experience physical and psychological impairments. Two hundred and three patients were examined to identify the relationships between the variables such as pain, ADL depression, self-efficacy and the effect of self-efficacy on pain, ADL and depression. It was found that ADL is significantly negatively related to depression and pain, and positively related to self-efficacy. Pain was significantly negatively related to self-efficacy, and positively related to depression and ADL. Then stepwise multiple regression was performed to identify the variables to predict ADL, pain and depression. Self-efficacy predicted negatively depression and positively ADL. Depression predicted positively pain. So it was revealed that self-efficacy decreased pain indirectly by influencing depression. Also pain predicted negatively ADL. ADL was predicted directly by pain and self-efficacy. So it is suggested that nursing intervention improving self-efficacy would be useful for patients with depression, pain, and ADL limitation. Moreover, these subjects gained 44 score in depression which means severe depressed state. So it is very important to implement nursing intervention to increase self-efficacy. Recommendations for future research was suggested.
Reactive Oxygen Species are Involved in Y-27632-induced Neurite Outgrowth in PC12 Cells

Inhibition of Rho-associated coiled coil-containing kinase (ROCK) has been reported to promote differentiation of neuronal cells. Here, we examined the effect of Y-27632, a ROCK inhibitor, on the outgrowth of neurites in PC12 cells. Y-27632 caused a rapid induction of neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells in a time-dependent manner. The neurite outgrowth, triggered by Y-27632, was accompanied by Rac1 activation, and was attenuated by Rac1 inhibitor NSC23766, in a concentration-dependent manner. Y-27632 also induced an increase in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Pretreatment with N-acetylcysteine, an ROS scavenger, inhibited the ROS generation and neurite outgrowth in response to Y-27632. These results indicate that the activation of Rac1 and the generation of ROS contribute to the neurite outgrowth triggered by Y-27632 in PC12 cells.

We assessed the risk factors for major amputation of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) stages 3b–5. For DFU assessment, in addition to DFU location and presence of infection, ischemia, and neuropathy, vascular calcification was assessed using the medial arterial calcification (MAC) score. Of 210 patients, 26 (12.4%) underwent major amputations. Only the location and extension of DFU, represented by Texas grade differed between the minor and major amputation groups. However, after adjusting for covariates, ulcer location of mid- or hindfoot (vs. forefoot, odds ratio [OR] = 3.27), Texas grades 2 or 3 (vs. grade 0, OR = 5.78), and severe MAC (vs. no MAC, OR = 4.46) was an independent risk factor for major amputation (all P < 0.05). The current use of antiplatelets was a possible protective factor for major amputations (OR = 0.37, P = 0.055). In conclusion, DFU with severe MAC is associated with major amputation in patients with DKD.

Due to the chemical and structural diversity of organic compounds, synthesis of the value-added chemicals strongly relies on microbial production in recent years, rather than a multi-step organic synthesis. In particular, there are at least 50,000 different terpenes, biosynthetic hydrocarbons, in nature, and their wide use in food, cosmetics, and even pharmaceutical industries necessitates genetically adaptable microorganisms, such as yeasts, enabling efficient and selective production of the high-value hydrophobic terpenes. However, the hydrophobic products are significantly lipotoxic, and their mass production is inevitably limited to the storage capacity of the cells. In this study, we demonstrate yeast metabolic engineering for greatly expanding the lipotoxic chemical storage by engineering subcellular lipid droplets (LDs). Because the LD, the hub of lipid metabolism, can sequester hydrophobic compounds into their core or phospholipid monolayer, we overexpressed or deleted LD-associated genes to maximize the storage capacity of LDs in yeast. Based on our engineered yeast strain, we observed a dramatic increase in terpene production; the optimal strain succeeded in 6-fold larger production of triterpene, compared to the control strain, indicating that our LD remodeling strategy is indeed effective for improving bioproduction of value-added hydrophobic compounds.
