Inhibitory Effects of Cultivated Wild Ginseng on the Differentiation of 3T3-L1 Pre-adipocytes

Wild ginseng has been used as a traditional medicine for thousands of years and for increase physical strength in Korea, China and Japan. This study reports that cultivated wild ginseng (CWG) inhibits adipocyte differentiation of 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes in a concentration-dependent manner. Inhibition of adipocyte differentiation is one possible anti-obesity strategy. CWG inhibits the expression of the adipocyte differentiation regulator peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor (PPAR)${\gamma}$ and CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein ${\alpha}$mRNA. It also inhibited the expression of PPAR${\gamma}$ and adiponectin at the protein level during the differentiation of pre-adipocytes into adipocytes. Additionally, CWG blocked the cell cycle at the sub-$G_1$ phase transition, causing cells to remain in the pre-adipocyte state. These results indicate that CWG inhibits adipocyte differentiation and adipogenesis through pre-adipocyte cell cycle arrest in cultured 3T3-L1 cells.
Benzylideneacetone and other phenylethylamide bacterial metabolites induce apoptosis to kill insects

Xenorhabdus and Photorhabdus are entomopathogenic bacteria that can induce immunosuppression against target insects by suppressing eicosanoid biosynthesis, leading to fatal septicemia. These bacteria can synthesize and release secondary metabolites such as benzylideneacetone (BZA) and other phenylethylamide compounds that can inhibit phospholipase A 2 (PLA 2 ) and shut down eicosanoid biosynthesis. However, insecticidal activities of these bacterial metabolites remain unclear. Thus, the objective of this study was to assess cytotoxicities of BZA and seven other bacterial metabolites to insect cells. These eight bacterial metabolites exhibited significant cytotoxicities against an insect cell line Sf9 at micromolar range. Especially, BZA and cPY were highly potent at low micromolar range. When these eight bacterial metabolites were injected to hemocoels of Spodoptera exigua larvae, they significantly decreased total count of hemocytes. In Sf9 cell line and hemocytes, these bacterial metabolites induced cell membrane blebbings, apoptotic vesicles, and genomic DNA fragmentation. Terminal deoxyribonucleotidyl transferase nick end translation assay showed that these bacterial metabolites caused significant DNA breakages in cells in a dose-dependent manner. However, a pan caspase inhibitor treatment significantly rescued the cell death induced by these bacterial metabolites. Cytotoxicities of these bacterial metabolites were highly correlated with their insecticidal activities. These results indicate that the insecticidal activities of the bacterial metabolites may be induced by their apoptotic activities against hemocytes and other insect cells. Taken together, these results suggest that phenylethylamide compounds might have potential as novel insecticides.

Backgrounds/Aims: Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a rare neoplasm. The epidemiology of GBC has not been updated in Australia for over five decades. Methods: Data of all Australian patients diagnosed with GBC at any age from 1982 to 2018 were identified from the Australian Cancer Database. Age-standardized rates were calculated and joinpoint analysis was performed to ascertain the trends of incidence and mortality of GBC. Results: Between 1982 and 2018, there were 22,745 cases of GBC and 11,054 GBC-related deaths in Australia. There were three distinct periods showing changed incidence. Period 1 (1982–1995) was stable. Period 2 (1996–2006) showed reduced incidence in females (3.6 to 2.8/100,000; p < 0.01) and all Australians (3.7 to 2.8/100,000, p < 0.01). Period 3 (2006–2017) demonstrated significantly increased incidence in all groups (males: 2.7 to 4.0/100,000, p < 0.01; females: 2.8 to 3.5/100,000, p < 0.01; all Australians: 2.8 to 3.7/100,000, p < 0.01). Incidence between females and males had declined from 1.10 : 1 in 1982 to 0.87 : 1 in 2017. There was a 71% reduction in mortality (3.1 to 0.9/100,000; p < 0.01). Median age at diagnosis increased from 69.7 to 74.3 years for females and from 67.2 to 73.3 years for males. Increasing incidence in the 6th to 8th decade of life in males, compared to previous years, was noted. Conclusions: Incidence, mortality, sex, and age of GBC have significantly changed in Australia since 1982. Rising incidence of GBC in Australia warrants further investigation.

본 논문에서는 기업의 사회적 책임에 대한 이해 당사자의 선호를 방글라데시의 사금융회사 참여자들을 대상으로 조사하였다. 이를 위해 관련 당사자에 대한 사전 인터뷰와 설문조사를 실시하였다. 조사결과 방글라데시 사금융회사들은 보다 더 많은 사회적 책임과 관련된 일들을 수행하고 있으며, 이해당사자들 역시 이를 긍정적으로 받아들이고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 정부의 사회적 임무가 충실하지 못한 저개발국가에서 사기업 특히 금융업에 종사하는 기업들의 사회적 책무가 개발 국가의 그것보다 막중하다는 것을 말해 준다. 결국 방글라데시의 사금융업자들이 그들을 바라보는 사회에 대한 기대와 기업의 이윤추구라는 목표를 동시에 만족시켜야하는 상황에 직면하고 있음을 보여주고 있다. This article pays attention to the practice and propagation of stakeholders preferences assessment of corporate social responsibilities (CSR) performed by the non-government organization particularly private banks in Bangladesh for developing the socio-economic states and ensuring the fundamental rights for stakeholders. Two techniques were used to search out the impacts of CSR activities executed by private banks. The first technique is the questionnaire method i.e. A series of interviews with the corresponding authorities and employers of the associated banks. The second technique is analytical opinions from expertise personnel. Therefore, a structured questionnaire was formed including targeted quarries. The findings show that the private banks endeavor to maximize returns from their shareholders moreover, comprehended their duty for the society. It creates a Win-Win situation for involved parties and the economic progress of Bangladesh. Beyond this, the bank executives should pay more attention to analyze the real situation and fulfil the anticipation by the people of the society.
Age dependent ob/ob mice fertility activity

Obesity is often associated with an impairment of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and also unites with reproductive defects and reduced fertility. The leptin-deficient ob/ob mouse is characterized by a morbid obesity and infertility. In the present study, we examined when ob/ob mouse lost their fertility activity according to aged dependent were investigated. The major organ systems in the body, the ovaries of females are the first to exhibit impaired function with advancing age. Here, ob/ob and ob lean various (4, 6, 9, 12 and 24 wks) aged mice were used. Histology (H & E staining) of ovary, vaginal smear and Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis were carried out. Hematoxylin/eosinstained sections show normal histology in ob lean type mice characterized by the presence of multiple primary and secondary follicles and well developed corpora lutea (CL). Ovaries from ob/ob mice, showed 4 and 6 wks mice similar to ob lean type but according to aged dependent ob/ob mice few primary and secondary follicles was seen. Many large empty follicles were present and no proper developed CL, especially 24 wks mice. Vaginal smear showed abnormal estrous cycle in ob/ob mice. Ovaries of ob/ob mice, mRNA results showed that ovulated gene TIMP1, Pgsh2 and Lhcgr expression levels are decreased according to aged dependent compared to ob lean type mice. These data suggest that aged dependent specifically when 24 wks of ob/ob mice lost their reproductive function.

Purpose At present social media is playing a significant role in organizational communication and LMX is contributing to make strong relationships with leaders and members consequently contribute to organizational innovation. The purpose of this research paper is to find the impact of social media on organizational innovation through mediation of Leader-Member Exchange in the communication perspective. Design/methodology/approach This research paper analyses data 217 sample data gathered through convenient and snowball sampling; SPSS and AMOS is used in structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses. Findings The hypothesis test proved that social media has no significant effect on organizational innovation and LMX has a full mediation effect between in social media and organizational innovations. Practical implications This study contributes to the literature by analyzing through a structural model in a single model, where social media in communication drives a direct effect on organization innovation and Leader-Member Exchange has full mediation. This indicates that social media seem to be important for innovation but still LMX has high value for organizational innovation and management for communications. So in the era of digital technology, social media is supporting horizontal communication and leader-member exchange for vertical communication both are necessary for organizational innovation. Research limitations/Implications This research has observed some limitations in the analysis of constructs. The observed variables are limited with social media, LMX and Organizational Innovations. There is a scope to find out social media’s impact on organizational innovation through multiple samples like taking response from leaders and members, considering other variables like Top management support, IT support as a mediators. Originality/value Rationalizing the social media and LMX in communications on organizational innovation, LXM has complete full mediation indicating the use of an LMX system has higher influence than social media communications. This paper adds value to communication theory focusing on the importance of LMX and social media for organizational innovations in this technological era.
