How to Prevent Anastomotic Leak in Colorectal Surgery? A Systematic Review

Anastomosis leakage (AL) after colorectal surgery is an embarrassing problem. It is associated with poor consequence. This review aims to summarize published evidence on prevention of AL after colorectal surgery and provide recommendations according to the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine. We conducted bibliographic research on January 15, 2020, of PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Scopus, and Google Scholar. We retained meta-analysis, reviews, and randomized clinical trials. We concluded that mechanical bowel preparation did not reduce AL. It seems that oral antibiotic or oral antibiotic with mechanical bowel preparation could reduce the risk of AL. The surgical approach did not affect the AL rate. The low ligation of the inferior mesenteric artery could reduce the AL rate. The mechanical anastomosis is superior to hand-sewn anastomosis only in case of right colectomies, with similar results in rectal surgery between the 2 anastomosis techniques. In the case of right colectomies, this anastomosis could be performed intracorporeally or extracorporeally with similar outcomes. The air leak test did not reduce AL. There is no interest of external drainage in colonic surgery but drains reduced the rate of AL and rate of reoperation after low anterior resection. The transanal tube reduced the rate of AL.
Vector-on-function quantile regression for stationary ergodic processes

This paper deals with quantile regression of a vector response (Y ∈ Rq, q ≥ 2) on a functional covariate X that takes values in an infinite dimensional space. The main purpose is to introduce a kernel-type estimator of the conditional geometric quantiles whenever functional strictly stationary ergodic data are considered. We established the strong consistency with rate of the proposed estimator as well as the asymptotic distribution that leads to build a confidence region for the multivariate quantile regression. We gave also an application to joint horizon time series forecasting.

The squirrel cage induction motor is considered to be one of the most important types of motors used in industries. An unexpected failure can lead to unwanted downtime and heavy financial losses to the industries regarding maintenance cost and profits. This paper deals with the problem of broken rotor bars fault diagnosis in saturated induction motor. Several techniques such as those based on vibration, axial leakage monitoring, zero-sequence component, negative sequence current, and motor current signature analysis have been used. However, these techniques do not take into account the effect of magnetic saturation. This paper presents a current Park’s Vector method for diagnosis in squirrel cage induction motor with the presence of magnetic saturation. The use of a current vector pattern demonstrates that deformation of the Current Park’s Vector Pattern trajectory and increasing diameter are indicators for predicting magnetic saturation and broken bars rotor fault. Our experimental results allow us to discriminate between the magnetic saturation in healthy and faulty squirrel cage induction motors.
In-vitro antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of some varieties citrus grown in Algeria

Polyphenols are scientifically researched molecules because of their multiple biological activities. This study aims to compare the phenolic content and estimate the antioxidant and anti-microbial activities of leaf extracts and juice of ten varieties Citrus fruits grown in Algeria. Antioxidant properties were evaluated by DPPH radical scavenging activity, β-carotene-linoleic acid system and ferric reducing antioxidant capacity. Antimicrobial activity was carried out using agar well diffusion method. The results showed the highest levels of phenolic compounds in juice and leaves of different part and varieties of plant (*P < 0.05). Among all the varieties, C. maxima and C. aurantium presents the highest activity for the three methods cited previously (94.44–91.66% and 95.41–83.84%). On the other hand, antibacterial activity present on the plates was indicated by an inhibition zone surrounding the well containing the juice. The C. Limon and C. aurantium varieties exhibited the highest antimicrobial activity, with inhibition zone ranging from (27.66 ± 0.58, 24.66 ± 1.53 mm) followed by grapefruit and mandarin with areas between (23.00 ± 1.00, 17.66 ± 0.58 mm) on the isolates used. In this study, whatever the parts of citrus (juice and leaves) have been found to contain higher amounts of phenolics and their efficiency as potent antioxidants and antimicrobial properties was confirmed.
