The synthesis, characterization and application of ascorbic acid-stabilized zero valent iron nanoparticles(AAS-ZVIN) for Cd (II) removal from aqueous solution were studied. The removal efficiency wasinvestigated using central composite design under response surface methodology with consideration offour factors including the dosage of AAS-ZVIN, pH, contact time and initial Cd (II) concentration. Thesynthesized nanoparticles were highly stable and efficient for Cd (II) removal. The numericaloptimization revealed that the optimum removal (79.68%) obtained at AAS-ZVIN dosage of 2 g L 1,initial Cd (II) concentration of 15mgL 1, contact time of 60 min and pH of 7.
