Optimal Number of Intelligent Nodes of Distributed Communication Processing for a Cloud System

Recently, distributed communication processing for a cloud system has been proposed for the purpose of reduce response time to clients [1, 2, 3, 4]. The cloud system consists of some intelligent nodes as well as a data center. The intelligent node provides client service near clients. The data center manages all of client information and application software. In order to reduce response time to more clients, we had better manage many intelligent nodes. But it has prohibit costs. We propose an optimal policy to reduce the management cost of intelligent nodes. We formulate a stochastic model of a server system with a certain number of intelligent nodes and derive the expected numbers of the replication and of application processing. Further, we derive the cost effectiveness and discuss an optimal number of intelligent nodes to minimize it.
Reliability Consideration of a Control System Connected with the Network

As the Internet technology has developed, not only the information system but also the control system which controls various devices has become connected with the Internet. The operational efficiency of a control system is improved by being connected with the Internet. However, it increases the risk of cyber attacks. This paper considers the optimal policy of a control system connected with the network. The control system consists of N units. If cyber attack cannot be detected, the system becomes failure. If the N-th operating unit cannot finish one process until a time limit T, once the process of system interrupts, and restarts again from the beginning. The mean time to system failure is derived. Further, two optimal policies which minimize the expected cost are discussed. Finally, a numerical example is given.
