Recent Advances in Artificial Insemination (AI) in Horses: Stallion Management, Processing and Preservation of Semen and Insemination Techniques

Yoon, Minjung The Korean Society of Embryo Transfer 2013 한국동물생명공학회지 Vol.28 No.2

The efficiency of artificial insemination (AI) for horses remains unsatisfactory. It is mainly because each process of AI causes a detrimental effect on semen quality. To sustain quality of semen properly, several factors including libido of stallions and sperm damage during sperm processing and preservation should be considered. Stallions with decent libido produce a high ratio of sperm to seminal plasma in their ejaculates, which is the ideal semen composition for maintaining sperm quality. Thus, to maximize the fertility rate upon AI, stallions should be appropriately managed to enhance their libido. Seminal plasma should have a positive effect on horse fertility in the case of natural breeding, whereas the effects of seminal plasma on both sperm viability and quality in the context of AI remain controversial. Centrifugation of semen is performed during semen processing to remove seminal plasma and to isolate fine quality sperm from semen. However, the centrifugation process can also result in sperm loss and damage. To solve this problem, several different centrifugation techniques such as Cushion Fluid along with dual and single Androcoll-E$^{TM}$ were developed to minimize loss of sperm and to damage at the bottom of the pellet. Most recently, a new technique without centrifugation was developed with the purpose of separating sperm from semen. AI techniques have been advanced to deliver sperm to optimal region of female reproductive tract at perfect timing. Recombinant equine luteinizing hormone (reLH) and low dose insemination techniques have been developed to maximize both fertility rate and the efficiency of AI. Horse breeders should consider that the entire AI procedure should be optimized for each stallion due to variation in individual horses for a uniformed AI protocol.

기업 내에서 비윤리적 행동에 대한 인식과 행동의도

        윤민정(Minjung Yoon),전병준(Byung-June Chun) 중앙대학교 한국인적자원개발전략연구소 2012 역량개발학습연구 Vol.7 No.4

This study examines the difference between the employees’ ethical seriousness and behavioral intention in organization by using in-basket method. We predicted that individuals use double-standards in judging ethical issues in organization. Data were collected from 154 employees in Korean companies in various industries. From interview, we first extracted representative 26 unethical behaviors that organizational members frequently encounter in their organizational life. Additionally, we relocated 26 unethical behaviors by the ethical seriousness as a result of frequent analysis. And, we relocated the behavioral intentions by the frequency. We find out that there are differences between the employees’ ethical perception and the whistle blowing behavior. Employees perceived ‘Personal-interest’ behavior more serious than other behaviors’. And employees responded they may whistle-blow when they observed ‘Organizational deception’. A closer look to the ethical perception, we also classified unethical behaviors into four dimensions by factor analysis: there are people-related, result-oriented, personal-interest, and deception. We find out that employees use different ethical standards for their own behavior in comparison with others’ behavior. We argue that employees’ ethical judgments of others’ behavior can be varied by whether they share the same organizational membership. Theoretical and managerial implications of our research for further understanding of unethical behaviors are discussed.

Expression Analysis of the Pistil Genes in Controlling Self-Incompatibility of Brassica campestris by CO2 Gas Using Microarray

        Yong-Yoon Chung,Minjung Kwun,Youngju Choi,Hyejin Yoon,Beom-Seok Park,Bong-Joong Kang 한국분자세포생물학회 2004 Molecules and cells Vol.18 No.1

In Brassica campestris, self-incompatibility (SI) can be overcome by CO2 gas treatment. Previously, we reported inhibition of the SI in the Brassica campestris line, 734, by CO2 gas. In this study, we used a cDNA microarray comprising 1,184 unique cDNA ESTs from a pistil-specific cDNA library of the Brassica line to examine the expression of the pistil genes in response to CO2. Microarray analysis revealed that expression of 2% of the pistil genes was altered by exposure to CO2 gas. Surprisingly, the SLG gene of the susceptible line was one of the down-regulated genes. Transmission electron microscopic analysis showed that the CO2 caused morphological changes in the papillary cell. Our results demonstrate that the overcoming of SI by CO2 gas involves reduced expression of the SLG gene in Brassica.

      • Performance Analysis on Cutting Part of the Cylindrical Paper-pot Manufacturing Equipment

        ( Minjung Park ),( Duckkyu Choi ),( Donghyeon Kang ),( Jinkwan Son ),( Sung-wook Yoon ) 한국농업기계학회 2018 한국농업기계학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.23 No.1

When pulling seedling in raising seedling plastic-tray in horticulture, the soil of root portion of seedling adheres to tray and the destroyed soil of root portion becomes less rooting-efficient. Because of the easy pulling of seedling, working comfort and manageability, the use of paper-pot is increasing; reduce production cost by 5~10% as compared with the practices, reduce seeding rate by 120% → 115%, increase shipment rate by 87% → 91%. This study was developed to cylindrical paper-pot manufacturing equipment in order to spread to farmer and it analyzed the cutting performance of the manufacturing equipment and the availability of paper-pot. The equipment consists of four parts, the soil-supply part, the paper-supply part, the pot-manufacturing part, the paper-pot cutting part. The each part is continuously performed. To analysis on the cutting plane of paper-pot according to the blade shape and angle, the cutting angle (α) was set at 10 ° intervals from 0 ° to 10 ° to determine the optimum cutting angle and the cutting blade used flat blades and saw blade types to visually analyze cutting surfaces. The cutting blade was set to be the same speed at 0.6 m/s, the speed of the cylinder that cuts the paper port. As a result of the test using this equipment, considering the equipment safety, it is appropriate to adopt a flat blade having a clean plan at a minimum angle of 30°. Moreover, the manufacturing capacity of the equipment was 3,300 pots per hour (Paper-pot diameter; 40 mm, paper-pot length; 40 mm).

Effect of Feedback Styles in Robotic Fitness Coaching on Exercise Intensity

        Yoon Kyung Lee,Yongha Park,Minjung Shin,Sowon Hahn 한국HCI학회 2024 한국HCI학회 논문지 Vol.19 No.2

Intensive exercise effectively prevents adult diseases, such as cardiovascular disease; however, many people find it challenging to keep this routine due to many situational and financial constraints. Recently, a growing interest has been in deploying social robots as fitness coaches in exercise sessions. This study investigated the effectiveness of real-time feedback provided by robot coaches in increasing exercise intensity. Participants were randomly assigned to either an empathic feedback group, focusing on emotional support, or a factual feedback group, offering information and advice only. All participants engaged in physical exercises (e.g., stretching and treadmill walking), receiving feedback on their walking speed and posture at 20-second intervals for 10 to 30 minutes. By analyzing variations in heart rate and treadmill speed, the study assessed the impact of the robot coach’s intervention on changes in exercise intensity. The results indicated that participants receiving factual feedback experienced significant heart rate and walking speed increases, maintaining higher walking speeds for extended periods. However, the post-experiment interview results revealed that while many participants preferred factual feedback, they also highlighted the importance of the robot’s emotional support (e.g., encouragement) in enhancing the overall exercise experience. In conclusion, the current study suggests that while informative feedback effectively improves actual exercise intensity, emotional support from a robot coach is also crucial for fostering long-term effects through continuous interaction.

      • Investigation of electrochemical performance on carbon supported tin-selenium bimetallic anodes in lithium-ion batteries

        Yoon, Young Hoon,Kim, Doo Soo,Kim, MinJung,Park, Min Sang,Lee, Young-Chul,Kim, Kwang Ho,Kim, Il Tae,Hur, Jaehyun,Lee, Seung Geol Elsevier 2018 ELECTROCHIMICA ACTA Vol.266 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Bimetallic compound, composed of two different metal elements, has emerged as an important class of electrode system. Amorphous carbon materials are widely used in anodes to reduce the internal resistance of electrodes. Therefore, SnSe bimetallic compound uniformly dispersed in acetylene black as a carbon-support has been fabricated for lithium ion batteries by high energy mechanical milling (HEMM) process under argon atmosphere. The SnSe-C composite retains a reversible capacity of 564 mAh g−1 with a coulombic efficiency of 99.8%, at a current rate of 100 mA g−1 after 50 cycles. In the high rate capability test, the SnSe-C composite exhibits the charge capacity of 530 mAh g−1 at 5000 mA g−1 charge rate. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) results indicate that SnSe-C composite shows small increase of surface resistance than that of plain SnSe composite. The enhanced cycle stability of SnSe-C composite can be attributed to the amorphous carbon additive that offers high electrical conductivity as well as a buffer matrix that prevents the volume change during cycling.</P>
