Mechanical milling, in association with electrical discharge machining (EDM) for hybrid machining, is presented in this paper. An end mill cutting tool, an electrode of the EDM, was used for the system. That means that some parts were cut by the mechanical cutting process and others by the EDM. The possibility of combining both processes was simulated with the cutting simulation software. In addition, the machining reality was verified by measuring the electrical signal from the EDM power supply, which was measured in time and frequency domains. From this initial research, the hybrid machining system proposed in this paper appears to be well suited for difficult to cut material processing.

In this paper, a number of experiments were conducted to measure cutting forces during a hybrid machining process of EDM together with milling. Measured cutting force is good evidence whether the cutting tool engages in the EDM process or not. From the experimental results, ED-milling assures that it is possible to cut materials while the electric discharge machining process is active.
A Study on the Development of Rotary Ultrasonic Machining Spindle

Ultrasonic machining (USM) has been considered a new, cutting-edge technology that presents no heating or electrochemical effects, with low surface damage and small residual stresses on brittle workpieces. However, nowadays, many researchers are paying careful attention to the disadvantages of USM, such as low productivity and tool wear. On the other hand, in this study, a high-performance rotary ultrasonic drilling (RUD) spindle is designed and assembled. In this system, the core technology is the design of an ultrasonic vibration horn for the spindle using finite element analysis (FEA). The maximum spindle speed of RUM is 9,600 rpm, and the highest harmonic displacement is 5.4 μm noted at the frequency of 40 ㎑. Through various drilling experiments on glass workpieces using a CVD diamond-coated drill, the cutting force and cracking of the hole entrance and exit side in the glass have been greatly reduced by this system.

AIS(Automatic Identification System)는 지난 10년간 해상에서 선박의 안전운항을 위해 광범위하게 사용되어 왔다. 이에 따라 AIS에서 사용하는 VHF 대역의 데이터 링크에서 통신량도 꾸준하게 증가하고 있다. AIS 디이터 트래픽의 증가는 AIS 서비스 통신품질의 저하를 야기할 수 있다. 국내 주요항만에서 AIS 통신량의 현황분석을 통하여 통신증가의 문제점을 지적한 바는 있지만 이에 대한 대책을 제시한 연구결과는 없다. 본 연구에서는 해상에서 AIS 기지국 장치에서 제공하는 메시지를 이용하여 AIS 기지국의 통신슬롯의 점유율을 분석하는 분석방법과 그 분석정보를 이용한 AIS 기지국의 자동 제어방안을 제시 하고자 한다. The AIS(Automatic Identification System) has been widely used for ship safety at sea over the last 10 years. The AIS traffic load at VDL(VHF Data Link) has been continuously increased. As the traffic load at VDL increases, the quality of AIS service may be deteriorated. In the previous research, the AIS traffic has been analyzed in the major ports of Korea, and its problem due to traffic overload has been suggested. However, no solutions has been given so far. In this paper, the method of autimatically controlling the VDL traffic at AIS base station is represented.
