High throughput plant regeneration and VIAAT-mediated genetic transformation of multipurpose legume crop Sesbania aculeata using hypocotyl explant

Mehta Nikhil,Rao Priyanka,Saini Raman 한국작물학회 2021 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.24 No.5

Sesbania aculeata is an important legume crop used in agriculture, industries, as food, and traditional medicines. For its further genetic improvement, particularly to overcome the anti-nutritional factors of the seeds requires biotechnological approaches. In the line, the present work reports frst-time optimization of various parameters (plant growth regulators, orientation and polarity of explants, preconditioning of the seedlings, presence of silver nitrate, and vacuum infltration) afecting in vitro regeneration and transformation. To raise the transformant of Sesbania aculeata, the study used hypocotyl explants and plasmid pCAMBIA2301 immobilized in Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain EHA105. The 3-day-old hypocotyl explants were obtained from pre-conditioned seedlings and cultured horizontally on Murashige and Skoog (MS) salts and Gamborg (B5) vitamins containing medium augmented with 2.5 µM 6-benzylaminopurine and 1.0 mg/L silver nitrate and produced multiple shoots (11–12) in 100% cultures within 28 days. The explants were vacuum infltrated at 660 mm of Hg for 5 min in presence of A. tumefaciens and cultured on shoot regeneration medium containing kanamycin 80 mg/L to regenerate shoots. To select at the rooting level the regenerants were rooted in presence of 2.5 µM indole-3-butyric acid and 10 mg/L kanamycin. Validate the transgenics for the transgene’s presence, integration, expression and inheritance up to the progeny plants via PCR, RT-PCR, Southern analysis, and histochemical GUS assay. The stable histochemical GUS expression was observed in various parts of primary transformants and progeny (T1) seedlings. Overall transformation efciency of 11.33% was achieved in 6–8 weeks.

Isolated oculomotor nerve palsy secondary to non-aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage

        Mehta Shyle,Bathini Abhijith,Dubey Anwesha,Barpujari Awinita,Kassem Ahmad,Sulaiman Mohanad,Binning Mandy 대한뇌혈관외과학회 2022 Journal of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neuros Vol.24 No.3

We present a case series of two patients who developed unilateral cranial nerve III (CNIII) palsy following non-aneurysmal SAH (NASAH). Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) can present with various signs and symptoms. Early diagnosis is paramount to determine treatment course. Thus, clinicians must be aware of the variable clinical presentations of this condition. Two patients were admitted to a single institution for SAH. Patient 1, 52-year-old male, presented with headache, left eye ptosis, and painless diplopia. A non-contrast head computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a SAH within the left sylvian fissure and blood surrounding the mesencephalon and falx. Patient 2, 70-year-old male, presented with mild headache, acute onset of blurry vision, and right eye ptosis. A non-contrast head CT demonstrated a diffuse SAH predominantly in the Sylvian and suprasellar cisterns. Patients were admitted to the neuro intensive care unit and underwent diagnostic angiograms to identify possible aneurysms. Magnetic resonance imaging and angiograms for both patients were negative. Patients were managed with best medical therapy and followed up in the outpatient setting. Unilateral CNIII palsy in the setting of NASAH was identified in both patients. Diagnostic angiograms were negative for aneurysms; therefore, SAH were determined to be spontaneous. We propose that unilateral CNIII palsy is a possible sign of NASAH.

Graphene quantum dot modified screen printed immunosensor for the determination of parathion

        Mehta, J.,Bhardwaj, N.,Bhardwaj, S.K.,Tuteja, S.K.,Vinayak, P.,Paul, A.K.,Kim, K.H.,Deep, A. Academic Press 2017 Analytical biochemistry Vol.523 No.-

<P>The widespread use of pesticides has immense effect on increased crop productions. However, they are also responsible for posing detrimental health hazards and/or for contaminating the environment with chemical residues. A routine and an on-field detection of pesticide residues in different food, water, and soil samples has become a need of the hour for which biosensors can offer a viable alternative. The present work reports a functionalized graphene quantum dot (GQD) based screen printed electro-chemical immunosensor for the detection of parathion. The application of GQDs has permitted the realization of a sensitive, robust, and reproducible sensor unlike those carried out earlier for the similar purposes. This immunosensor exhibited a dynamic linear response for parathion within the range of 0.01 -10(6) ng/L with a very low detection limit of 46 pg/L. According to the analysis of potential interferences, the proposed sensor was specifically detecting parathion even in the presence of its metabolite, paraoxon. The investigations of the proposed sensing approach with respect to stability, response reproducibility, and regeneration have fully supported its potential practical applicability. Recent advances in enzyme immobilization techniques: Metal-organic frameworks as novel substrates

        Mehta, J.,Bhardwaj, N.,Bhardwaj, S.K.,Kim, K.H.,Deep, A. Elsevier Publishing Company 2016 Coordination chemistry reviews Vol.322 No.-

<P>In the past few years, metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have drawn increasing research interest as bioimmobilization support materials. The unique properties of MOFs, including tunable porosity, desirable functionality, extremely high surface area, and chemical/thermal stability, have motivated a considerable interest in exploiting them as a potential matrix for enzyme immobilization. Improvements in the biocatalyst efficiency, promising recyclability, enhanced accessibility to active sites, and a high loading capacity are the main features of the novel MOF-enzyme supports. This review aims to cover the recent progress in the application of MOFs as enzyme immobilization supports. We discuss different approaches used in the development of MOF-enzyme biocatalytic supports, such as surface adsorption, diffusion, and in-situ encapsulation. The trends in current developments and the significance of each strategy are critically reviewed in this paper. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

The Role of Remittances in Financial Development: Evidence from Nonlinear ARDL and Asymmetric Causality

MEHTA, Ahmed Muneeb,QAMRUZZAMAN, Md.,SERFRAZ, Ayesha,ALI, Asad Korea Distribution Science Association 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.3

This study's impetus is to explore fresh evidence to answer the question, i.e., whether remittances asymmetrically influence financial development in Bangladesh from 1975 to 2019. The study employs several tests, i.e., nonlinear unit root test, Autoregressive Distributed Lagged (ARDL), NARDL, and asymmetric causality test for establishing the pattern of association. Nonlinear unit root tests confirm that variables follow a nonlinear system of being stationary after the first difference. nonlinearity among variables is investigated by performing the BDS test and nonlinear OLS. Directional causality is investigated through both linear and nonlinear effects of remittance inflows by following the non-granger casualty test. The test statistics of Fpass and tBDM showed the Long-run cointegration in the empirical model and positive effect running from remittances inflow to financial development both in the long-run and short-run. Furthermore, the results of a standard Wald test divulge the presence of long-run and short-run asymmetry. Asymmetry causality test established unidirectional causality due to positive and negative shocks in remittances inflows to Bank-based financial development and feedback hypothesis hold for explaining causality between positive and negative shocks in remittance inflows and Stock-based financial development.

Stability analysis of an inverted three-lobe pressure dam bearing

Mehta N.P 대한기계학회 2012 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.26 No.8

The stability of an ordinary journal bearing is found to increase by the use of multi-lobes. The performance can be further improved by the incorporation of pressure dam into these bearing. This paper analyzes the dynamic behavior of a new type of bearing, namely, an inverted three-lobe pressure dam bearing. An inverted three-lobe pressure dam bearing is produced by incorporating a pressure dam in the upper lobe and two relief tracks in the lower two lobes of an ordinary inverted three-lobe bearing. The characteristic curves of this bearing show that it is much more stable as compared to an ordinary inverted three-lobe bearing.

The Effect of Technology and Open Innovation on Women-Owned Small and Medium Enterprises in Pakistan

MEHTA, Ahmed Muneeb,ALI, Asad,SALEEM, Hina,QAMRUZZAMAN, Md.,KHALID, Rimsha Korea Distribution Science Association 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.3

Technological adaption and innovative activities foster small and medium enterprises (SMEs) growth, especially women-owned SMEs in Pakistan, However, the impact of technological adaption and innovative activities on SMEs growth in the context of Pakistan has been examined by very researchers. This study aims to identify the effect of technology and open innovation policies on the growth of women-owned SMEs and the present trends and management challenges for successful full implementation of open innovation. The study considered a sample of 693 women enterprises located in different cities in Pakistan. Open innovation is measured through eight innovative practices, reflecting the exploration and exploitation of technology in SMEs. Study findings revealed that women enterprises were involved in several open innovation policies during the last five years. Moreover, the study indicated no significant differences between manufacturing and service SMEs regarding open innovation practices; however, women enterprises are more impressively engaged in open innovation practices. Findings also reveal that women-owned SMEs follow open innovation, mainly for market-related intentions, to compete with competitors and meet customers' demands. Thus, it is suggested that government policy relating to thriving SMEs owned by women should be innovation-oriented. The study contributes to the theoretical and practical implications. Further, the study is helpful for SMEs, researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers.

      • Drag reduction for payload fairing of satellite launch vehicle with aerospike in transonic and low supersonic speeds

        Mehta, R.C. Techno-Press 2020 Advances in aircraft and spacecraft science Vol.7 No.4

A forward-facing aerospike attached to a payload fairing of a satellite launch vehicle significantly alters its flowfield and decreases the aerodynamic drag in transonic and low supersonic speeds. The present payload fairing is an axisymmetric configuration and consists of a blunt-nosed body along with a conical section, payload shroud, boat tail and followed by a booster. The main purpose of the present numerical simulations is to evaluate flowfield and assess the performance of aerodynamic drag coefficient with and without aerospike attached to a payload fairing of a typical satellite launch vehicle in freestream Mach number range 0.8 ≤ M∞ ≤ 3.0 and freestream Reynolds number range 33.35 × 106/m ≤ Re∞ ≤ 46.75 × 106/m whichincludes the maximum aerodynamic drag and maximum dynamic conditions during ascent flight trajectory of the satellite launch vehicle. A numerical simulation has been carried out to solve time-dependent compressible turbulent axisymmetric Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The closure of the system of equations is achieved using the Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model. The aerodynamic drag reduction mechanism is analysed employing numerical results such as velocity vector plots, density and Mach contours in conjunction with the experimental flow visualization pictures. The variations of wall pressure coefficient over the payload fairing with and without aerospike are exhibiting different kind of flowfield characteristics in the transonic and low supersonic speeds. The numerically computed results are compared with schlieren pictures, oil flow patterns and measured wall pressure distributions and exhibit good agreement between them.

      • Intrinsic Tumour Factors Affecting Recurrence in Non Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer: a Hospital Based Study from India

Mehta, Nisarg,Rathore, Ranjeet Singh,Pillai, Biju S,Sam, Mohan P,Moorthy, Krishna Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.7

Background: Depending on various pathological factors, non muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) shows varying degrees of recurrence. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of recurrence of NMIBS in our centre, study the influence of intrinsic tumour characteristics like grade, stage, size and number, and compare our results with data in the published literature. Materials and Methods: A hospital based retrospective study was conducted on patients who underwent treatment for NMIBC from 2011 to 2014. The factors studied were number, size, grade, stage and site for correlation with recurrence. Statistical analysis was performed using Medcalc version 12, using Pearson's Chi square test to ascertain associations between variables. Results: A total of 73 patients with NMIBC were studied of which 48 (65.8%) had low grade and 25 (34.2%) had high grade tumours. Some 38 patients (52.1%) had Ta tumours, 34 (46.6%) had T1 and one had CIS. Mean follow up was 34.3 months. Recurrence rates were found to be 33.3% in low grade and 52.0% in high grade tumours. The overall recurrence rate in our centre was 39.7%. Significant correlations were seen between stage and recurrence, with a rate of 15% for Ta and 63.3% for T1 tumours. Fourteen out of 21 bladder cancers (66.6%) with multiple tumours demonstrated recurrence (p=0.006). Grade, size and site had no influence. Conclusions: In our study, recurrence of NMIBC was found to be directly proportional to stage and number of primary tumours, but not grade, size and site. The incidence of recurrence of NMIBC both stage wise and grade wise in our centre was also low compared to the data in the published literature.
