Buckling of sandwich plates with FG-CNT-reinforced layers resting on orthotropic elastic medium using Reddy plate theory

Maryam Shokravi 국제구조공학회 2017 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.23 No.6

Present paper deals with the temperature-dependent buckling analysis of sandwich nanocomposite plates resting on elastic medium subjected to magnetic field. The lamina layers are reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as uniform and functionally graded (FG). The elastic medium is considered as orthotropic Pasternak foundation with considering the effects of thermal loading on the spring and shear constants of medium. Mixture rule is utilized for obtaining the effective material properties of each layer. Adopting the Reddy shear deformation plate theory, the governing equations are derived based on energy method and Hamilton's principle. The buckling load of the structure is calculated with the Navier's method for the simply supported sandwich nanocomposite plates. Parametric study is conducted on the combined effects of the volume percent and distribution types of the CNTs, temperature change, elastic medium, magnetic field and geometrical parameters of the plates on the buckling load of the sandwich structure. The results show that FGX distribution of the CNTs leads to higher stiffness and consequently higher buckling load. In addition, considering the magnetic field increases the buckling load of the sandwich nanocomposite plate.

Shokravi, Maryam,Jalili, Nader Techno-Press 2017 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.25 No.4

Nonlinear vibration and instability of cylindrical shell conveying fluid-nanoparticles mixture flow are studied in this article. The surrounding elastic medium is modeled by Pasternak foundation. Mixture rule is used for obtaining the effective viscosity and density of the fluid-nanoparticles mixture flow. The material properties of the elastic medium and cylindrical shell are assumed temperature-dependent. Employing first order shear deformation theory (FSDT), the motion equations are derived using energy method and Hamilton's principal. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is used for obtaining the frequency and critical fluid velocity. The effects of different parameters such as volume percent of nanoparticles, boundary conditions, geometrical parameters of cylindrical shell, temperature change, elastic foundation and fluid velocity are shown on the frequency and critical fluid velocity of the structure. Results show that with increasing volume percent of nanoparticles in the fluid, the frequency and critical fluid velocity will be increases.

Dynamic buckling response of temperature-dependent functionally graded-carbon nanotubes-reinforced sandwich microplates considering structural damping

Maryam Shokravi,Nader Jalili 국제구조공학회 2017 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.20 No.5

This research deals with the nonlocal temperature-dependent dynamic buckling analysis of embedded sandwich micro plates reinforced by functionally graded carbon nanotubes (FG-CNTs). The material properties of structure are assumed viscoelastic based on Kelvin–Voigt model. The effective material properties of structure are considered based on mixture rule. The elastic medium is simulated by orthotropic visco-Pasternak medium. The motion equations are derived applying Sinusoidal shear deformation theory (SSDT) in which the size effects are considered using Eringen\'s nonlocal theory. The differential quadrature (DQ) method in conjunction with the Bolotin\'s methods is applied for calculating resonance frequency and dynamic instability region (DIR) of structure. The effects of different parameters such as volume percent of CNTs, distribution type of CNTs, temperature, nonlocal parameter and structural damping on the dynamic instability of visco-system are shown. The results are compared with other published works in the literature. Results indicate that the CNTs have an important role in dynamic stability of structure and FGX distribution type is the better choice.

Forced vibration response in nanocomposite cylindrical shells - Based on strain gradient beam theory

Maryam Shokravi 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.28 No.3

In this paper, forced vibration of micro cylindrical shell reinforced by functionally graded carbon nanotubes (FG-CNTs) is presented. The structure is subjected to transverse harmonic load and modeled by beam model. The size effects are considered based on strain gradient theory containing three small scale parameters. The mixture rule is used for obtaining the effective material properties of the structure. Based on sinusoidal shear deformation theory of beam, energy method and Hamilton's principle, the motion equations are derived. Applying differential quadrature method (DQM) and Newmark method, the frequency curves of the structure are plotted. The effect of different parameters including, CNTs volume percent and distribution type, boundary conditions, size effect and length to thickness ratio on the frequency curves of the structure is studied. Numerical results indicate that the dynamic deflection of the FGX-CNT-reinforced cylindrical is lower with respect to other type of CNT distribution.

Buckling analysis of embedded laminated plates with agglomerated CNT-reinforced composite layers using FSDT and DQM

        Shokravi, Maryam Techno-Press 2017 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.12 No.2

Laminated plates have many applications in different industrials. Buckling analysis of these structures with the nano-scale reinforcement has not investigated yet. However, buckling analysis of embedded laminated plates with nanocomposite layers is studied in this paper. Considering the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as reinforcement of layers, SWCNTs agglomeration effects and nonlinear analysis using numerical method are the main contributions of this paper. Mori-Tanaka model is applied for obtaining the equivalent material properties of structure and considering agglomeration effects. The elastic medium is simulated by spring and shear constants. Based on first order shear deformation theory (FSDT), the governing equations are derived based on energy method and Hamilton's principle. Differential quadrature method (DQM) is used for calculating the buckling load of system. The effects of different parameters such as the volume percent of SWCNTs, SWCNTs agglomeration, number of layers, orientation angle of layers, elastic medium, boundary conditions and axial mode number of plate on the buckling of the structure are shown. Results indicate that increasing volume percent of SWCNTs increases the buckling load of the plate. Furthermore, considering agglomeration effects decreases the buckling load of system. In addition, it is found that the present results have good agreement with other works.

      • Experimental and theoretical analysis of electronic musical structures with smart nanoparticles

Jing Han,Maryam Shokravi,F. Ming 국제구조공학회 2024 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.91 No.4

Nanotechnology has emerged as a promising avenue for enhancing musical structures. In this study, we analyze the static behavior of laser harp (i.e., electronic musical instrument) reinforced with Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles. Leveraging the piezoelectric properties of ZnO nanoparticles, the structure is subjected to an electric field for intelligent control. The electronic musical structure is situated in a foundation with vertical springs and shear modulus constants. We employ the exponential Shear Deformation Beam Theory (ESDBT) to mathematically model the structure. A micro-electro-mechanical model is employed to determine the equivalent properties of the system. By utilizing nonlinear stress-strain relations, energy methods, and Hamilton’s principle, we derive the motion equations. The buckling load of the electronic musical beam is calculated using the Difference Quadrature Method (DQM). The primary objective of this study is to present a mathematical model for electronic musical beams and determining the buckling load of the structure and to investigate the influence of nanotechnology and electric fields on its buckling behavior. The buckling is the case when the structure becomes deforms and unstable. Our findings reveal that the application of negative external voltage to the electronic musical structure increases both the stiffness and the buckling load of the musical system. Furthermore, reinforcing the electronic musical structure with ZnO nanoparticles results in an increased buckling load. Notably, the maximum enhancement in the 28-day compressive and tensile strengths of samples containing zinc oxide nanoparticles compared to the control sample resulting in increases of 18.70% and 3.77%, respectively.
