Valorization of Anthocyanin Pigments Extracted from Phytolacca Americanna L. Fruits as Bio-Colorant to Dye Wool Yarns

        Noureddine Baaka,Manel Ben Ticha,Ahlem Guesmi 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.12

Today’s men are experiencing an unprecedented technological advance allowing the use of increasingly largechemical dyes. However, a recent fashion trend continues to grow and results in a return to nature: The idea is to combinewell-being and ecology for man and his environment. In this context, several natural resources have been exploited as dyesfor textile fibers. In this paper, a singular interest is brought to the fruits extract of Phytolacca americanna L. which wasvalued in the dye of wool yarns. Hence, the dye extracts and the primary color components of the fruits extract of Phytolaccaamericanna were analyzed. The color features of the extract under different pH conditions, the influence of temperature ondyes stability, the FTIR spectral analysis, and their application in wool yarns dyeing were studied. In addition, the dyeingperformances of wool yarns with the fruits extract of Phytolacca americanna under different conditions (dyeing temperature, dyeing pH, and dyeing duration) are presented. The best dyeing results were obtained at pH 2, 45 min, and 90 oC. Besides,bio-mordanting processes were applied to enhance the dye depth and improve the fastness properties of the dyed wool yarn. Various shades and better fastness were obtained.

Upgrading of UV Protection Properties of Several Textile Fabrics by Their Dyeing with Grape Pomace Colorants

        Noureddine Baaka,Manel Ben Ticha,Wafa Haddar,Maria Teresa Pessoa Amorim,Mohamed Farouk Mhenni 한국섬유공학회 2018 Fibers and polymers Vol.19 No.2

The desire to offer clothes protective properties against the harmful UV rays continues to attract the interest of researchers. Several works have been elaborated in this topic and have proved that the clothes do not protect sufficiently against the solar ultraviolet radiation. Their protectiveness depends on the fiber type, the fabric composition, the fabric construction and the dyeing method. This research presents a novel approach which target the improvement of the textile protective properties against UV rays by their dyeing with grape pomace aqueous extract. These properties were tested in combination with several fabrics (natural and synthetic) and mordants (potassium alum and ferrous sulphate). Through this study, it has been shown that the UV-protective properties of the several dyed fibers were upgraded after dyeing with the grape pomace extract, and is intensely relying on the types of fibers and mordants.
