A Cross-National Study on the CEO Messages of Multinational Corporations in China

CEO messages convey corporate culture and philosophy. In particular, communication with stakeholders through CEO messages of corporate web sites is an important strategic tool given that MNCs in foreign market should communicate with local stakeholders from different cultural and linguistic background. The purpose of this paper is to describe and interpret the CEO message of North American, Japanese and European multinational corporations (MNCs) in China. This study focuses on languages, word count, number of sentences, words per sentences and theme of the CEO’s message on website. The results from this study enhance our understanding how CEOs of MNCs communicate with their stakeholders in China and what content they mainly include in their messages on their web sites.
