        Investigation of supplementation with a combination of fermented bean dregs and wheat bran for improving the growth performance of the sow

        To investigate the effect of dietary supplementation with a fermented mixture of bean dregs and wheat bran (FBW) on sow performance. FBW was given to sows during late gestation and lactation; in total, 24 sows were randomly assigned to 4 groups (control diet; 3% FBW diet; 6% FBW diet; 9% FBW diet, n = 6). The weight ratio of bean dregs (wet) to wheat bran was 4:6. Sows were fed different diets from 85 d of gestation until weaning. The results showed that supplementation with FBW increased average daily feed intake (ADFI) during lactation (p < 0.05). FBW supplementation also increased litter weight and milk yield (p < 0.05). The contents of Escherichia coli in the feces of the treatment groups were significantly reduced by FBW supplementation (p < 0.01). FBW supplementation significantly improved the fecal morphology (p < 0.05), alleviating sows’ constipation. In conclusion, FBW could increase the ADFI, improve lactation and piglet litter weight in sows and reduce the pathogenic bacterial content in sow feces and constipation.

        Optimization of ultrasound-assisted magnetic retrieval-linked ionic liquid dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction for the determination of cadmium and lead in water samples by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry

        A simple and efficient method for the determination of Cd and Pb in water samples was developed byultrasound-assisted magnetic retrieval-linked ionic liquid dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (UA-MR-IL-DLLME) preconcentration and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS)detection. Ionic liquid (IL) [Hmim] [PF6] was used as the extractant, ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC) as the complexing agent and Fe3O4 nanoparticles as the sorbent, whileultrasound was applied to assist the dispersion of the extractant and accelerate the mass transfer process. The effect of different factors on the extraction efficiency including pH, IL volume, APDC amount,ultrasound extraction time, ultrasound desorption time and Fe3O4 amount was studied by a fractionalfactorial design to screen for the most important factors. Then a central composite design was used tooptimize the significant factors. Under the optimal conditions, the method has linear calibration curvesover the range of 0.3–20 ng/mL for Cd and 0.5–40 ng/mL for Pb, with correlation coefficients (R) of0.9990 and 0.9986 for Cd and Pb, respectively. The limits of detection were 0.1 ng/mL and 0.15 ng/mL withrelative standard deviations of 3.4% and 2.8% for Cd and Pb, respectively. Finally, the method wassuccessfully applied for the determination of Cd and Pb in the real water samples and satisfactoryrecoveries were achieved.

        Functionalized Poplar Powder as a Support Material for Immobilization of Enoate Reductase and a Cofactor Regeneration System

        In this study, functionalized poplar powder (FPP) was used as a support material for the immobilization of enoate reductase (ER) and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (GDH) by covalent binding. Under optimal conditions, the immobilization efficiency of ER-FPP and GDH-FPP was 95.1% and 84.7%, and the activity recovery of ER and GDH was 47.5% and 37.8%, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis indicated that FPP was a suitable carrier for enzyme immobilization. ER-FPP and GDH-FPP exhibit excellent thermal stabilities and superior reusability. Especially, ER-FPP and GDH-FPP enable the continuous conversion of 4-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-3-buten-2-one with NAD+ recycling. While the immobilization strategies established here were simple and inexpensive, they exploited a new method for the immobilization and application of ER and its cofactor recycling system.

        Metadynamic and Static Recrystallization Softening Behavior of a Bainite Steel

        The metadynamic recrystallization (MDRX) and static recrystallization (SRX) softening behavior of a bainitesteel was investigated by two-pass isothermal compression experiments at temperatures of 1173, 1273, 1373, and1473 K and strain rates of 0.01, 0.1, 1, and 10 s-1with inter-pass times of 1, 5, 10, and 30 s on a Gleeble-1500thermo-mechanical simulator. Kinetic equations were developed to evaluate the softening fractions caused byMDRX and SRX. A comparison between the experimental and predicted softening fractions showed that the proposedkinetic equations can provide a precise estimation of the MDRX and SRX behavior of the studied steel. Theresults based on the kinetic equations indicated that the MDRX and SRX softening fraction increases with theincrease in strain rate, deformation temperature, inter-pass time, and pre-strain; the activation energy of MDRX ismuch smaller than that of SRX; and the no-recrystallization temperature of the investigated steel is 1179.4 K.

      • Study on Recognition Method of Adhering Bars Based on Support Vector Machine

        It is difficult to track, count and separate the moving bars at a high speed on production line for their overlap and accumulation. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a reliable, practical recognition and segmentation mechanism for the adhered bars. A new solution to the problem of bars adhesion is proposed: a support vector machine is constructed to recognize the adhesion type of bars by the feature vectors of training samples. The geometric feature values and moment feature values based on Blob regions in images are extracted, which is the input feature vector of support vector machine. The trained classifier is used for identifying the adhesion type of bars in images. Finally, classification and recognition is carried by support vector machine. The experimental results show that the recognition accuracy based RBF kernel achieves 100%. The method is feasible and effective for the recognition and segmentation of the adhered bars.

        Transplanting neurofibromatosis-1 gene knockout neural stem cells improve functional recovery in rats with spinal cord injury by enhancing the mTORC2 pathway

        The poor survival and low efficiency of neuronal differentiation limits the therapeutic effects of transplanted neural stem cells in the treatment of spinal cord injury. Neurofibromatosis-1 (NF-1) is a tumor suppressor gene that restricts the rapid and abnormal growth and differentiation of neural cells. In the present study, lentiviral vectors were used to knock out NF-1, Ricotr (the core member of mTORC2) or NF-1+Ricotr in neural stem cells in vitro, and the NF-1, Ricotr or NF-1+Ricotr knockout neural stem cells were transplanted at the lesion site in a rat model of spinal cord injury (SCI). We first demonstrated that targeted knockout of NF-1 had an antiapoptotic effect and improved neuronal differentiation by enhancing the mTORC2/Rictor pathway of neural stem cells in vitro. Subsequently, transplanting NF-1 knockout neural stem cells into the injured site sufficiently promoted the tissue repair and functional recovery of rats with spinal cord injury by enhancing the survival and neuronal differentiation of grafted neural stem cells. Collectively, these findings reveal a prominent role of NF-1 in neural stem cell biology, which is an invaluable step forward in enhancing the benefit of neural stem cell-mediated regenerative cell therapy for spinal cord injury and identifies the transplantation of NF-1 knockout neural stem cells as a promising strategy for spinal cord injury.

        Intensity of Intraoperative Spinal Cord Hyperechogenicity as a Novel Potential Predictive Indicator of Neurological Recovery for Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy

        Objective: To analyze the correlations between intraoperative ultrasound and MRI metrics of the spinal cord in degenerative cervical myelopathy and identify novel potential predictive ultrasonic indicators of neurological recovery for degenerative cervical myelopathy. Materials and Methods: Twenty-two patients who underwent French-door laminoplasty for multilevel degenerative cervical myelopathy were followed up for 12 months. The Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scores were assessed preoperatively and 12 months postoperatively. Maximum spinal cord compression and compression rates were measured and calculated using both intraoperative ultrasound imaging and preoperative T2-weight (T2W) MRI. Signal change rates of the spinal cord on preoperative T2W MRI and gray value ratios of dorsal and ventral spinal cord hyperechogenicity on intraoperative ultrasound imaging were measured and calculated. Correlations between intraoperative ultrasound metrics, MRI metrics, and the recovery rate JOA scores were analyzed using Spearman correlation analysis. Results: The postoperative JOA scores improved significantly, with a mean recovery rate of 65.0 ± 20.3% (p < 0.001). No significant correlations were found between the operative ultrasound metrics and MRI metrics. The gray value ratios of the spinal cord hyperechogenicity was negatively correlated with the recovery rate of JOA scores (ρ = -0.638, p = 0.001), while the ventral and dorsal gray value ratios of spinal cord hyperechogenicity were negatively correlated with the recovery rate of JOA-motor scores (ρ = -0.582, p = 0.004) and JOA-sensory scores (ρ = -0.452, p = 0.035), respectively. The dorsal gray value ratio was significantly higher than the ventral gray value ratio (p < 0.001), while the recovery rate of JOA-motor scores was better than that of JOA-sensory scores at 12 months post-surgery (p = 0.028). Conclusion: For degenerative cervical myelopathy, the correlations between intraoperative ultrasound and preoperative T2W MRI metrics were not significant. Gray value ratios of the spinal cord hyperechogenicity and dorsal and ventral spinal cord hyperechogenicity were significantly correlated with neurological recovery at 12 months postoperatively.

        Laser Vision-Based Automatic Trajectory Planning Technology for Spatial Intersecting Joint Weld

        This paper studies the laser vision-based automatic trajectory planning technology for spatial intersecting joint weld. Firstly, the mathematical model of T-type off-axis non-groove intersecting joint is established, and the welding seam characteristics of the intersecting joint are analyzed. Secondly, a triangular pseudo-rotation feature pixel detection algorithm based on monocular structured light vision is proposed to realize the rapid extraction and location of spatial intersecting joint weld. Then, a laser vision-based calibration method for the workpiece coordinate system of the T-type intersecting joint is proposed, the relationship between intersecting joint workpiece coordinate system and robot base coordinate system is established, and the trajectory equation is obtained. At last, a searching discrete of chord error interpolation control algorithm is proposed to automatically discrete and plan welding torch gesture data. Experiments show that the technology can achieve higher precision location and better intersecting joint weld trajectory planning, and realize high-quality automatic weld of intersecting joint.

        Reference Intervals for Thyroid-Associated Hormones and the Prevalence of Thyroid Diseases in the Chinese Population

        Background: Thyroid diseases are highly prevalent worldwide, but their diagnosis remains a challenge. We established reference intervals (RIs) for thyroid-associated hormones and evaluated the prevalence of thyroid diseases in China. Methods: After excluding outliers based on the results of ultrasound screening, thyroid antibody tests, and the Tukey method, the medical records of 20,303 euthyroid adults, who visited the Department of Health Care at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2014 to December 2018, were analyzed. Thyroid-associated hormones were measured by the Siemens Advia Centaur XP analyzer. The RIs for thyroid-associated hormones were calculated according to the CLSI C28-A3 guidelines, and were compared with the RIs provided by Siemens. The prevalence of thyroid diseases over the five years was evaluated and compared using the chi-square test. Results: The RIs for thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (FT4), free triiodothyronine (FT3), total thyroxine (TT4), and total triiodothyronine (TT3) were 0.71–4.92 mIU/L, 12.2–20.1 pmol/L, 3.9–6.0 pmol/L, 65.6–135.1 nmol/L, and 1.2–2.2 nmol/L, respectively. The RIs of all hormones except TT4 differed significantly between males and females. The RIs of TSH increased with increasing age. The prevalence of overt hypothyroidism, overt hyperthyroidism, subclinical hypothyroidism, and subclinical hyperthyroidism was 0.5% and 0.8%, 0.2% and 0.6%, 3.8% and 6.1%, and 3.3% and 4.7% in males and females, respectively, which differed from those provided by Siemens. Conclusions: Sex-specific RIs were established for thyroid-associated hormones, and the prevalence of thyroid diseases was determined in the Chinese population.

        Xylazole inhibits NO-cGMP pathway in fetal rat nerve cells

        Background: Xylazole (Xyl) is a veterinary anesthetic that is structurally and functionally similar to xylazine. However, the effects of Xyl in vitro remain unknown. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the anesthetic mechanism of Xyl using fetal rat nerve cells treated with Xyl. Methods: Fetal rat nerve cells cultured for seven days were treated with 10, 20, 30, and 40 μg/ mL Xyl for 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 min. Variations of amino acid neurotransmitters (AANTs), Nitric oxide-Cyclic GMP (NO-cGMP) signaling pathway, and ATPase were evaluated. Results: Xyl decreased the levels of cGMP and NO in nerve cells. Furthermore, Xyl affected the AANT content and Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-Mg2+-ATPase activity in nerve cells. These findings suggested that Xyl inhibited the NO-cGMP signaling pathway in nerve cells in vitro. Conclusions: This study provided new evidence that the anesthetic and analgesic effects of Xyl are related to the inhibition of the NO-cGMP signaling pathway.
