Alterations of oral microbiota in Chinese children with viral encephalitis and/or viral meningitis

The role of oral microbiota in viral encephalitis and/or viral meningitis (VEVM) remains unclear. In this hospital-based, frequency-matched study, children with clinically diagnosed VEVM (n = 68) and those with other diseases (controls, n = 68) were recruited. Their oral swab samples were collected and the oral microbiota was profiled using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The oral microbiota of children with VEVM exhibited different beta diversity metrics (unweighted UniFrac distance: P < 0.001, R2 = 0.025, Bray-curtis dissimilarity: P = 0.045, R2 = 0.011, and Jaccard dissimilarity: P < 0.001, R2 = 0.017) and higher relative abundances of taxa identified by Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) with effect size (Enterococcus, Pedobacter, Massilia, Prevotella_9, Psychrobacter, Butyricimonas, Bradyrhizobium, etc., LDA scores > 2.0) when compared with the control group. The higher pathway abundance of steroid hormone biosynthesis predicted by oral microbiota was suggested to be linked to VEVM (q = 0.020). Further, a model based on oral microbial traits showed good predictive performance for VEVM with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.920 (95% confidence interval: 0.834–1.000). Similar results were also obtained between children with etiologically diagnosed VEVM (n = 43) and controls (n = 68). Our preliminary study identified VEVM-specific oral microbial traits among children, which can be effective in the diagnosis of VEVM.
The Investigation of Function of Mineral Mud for the Skin

목적: 본 연구는 미네랄머드가 류머티스성 질환, 건선 등 질병에 민간적 응용과 임상적 응용으로 많이 사용됨에 따 라 미네랄머드의 피부 임상응용을 목적으로 연구를 진행하였다. 방법: 미네랄머드의 소염, 항산화 작용을 요약하고, 미네랄머드를 화장품에 응용함에 있어서 존재하는 문제를 발 견하고 화장품영역에서의 발전방향을 제시하였다. 결과: 류머티스성 질환, 건선 등 난치 성 피부병의 치료는 미네랄머드의 소염, 항산화작용에 의한 것으로 보인다. 결론: 미네랄머드가 화장품 소재로서의 희망적인 가능성을 가지고 있지만 화장품 완제품으로 개발하기 위해서는 아직도 해결해야 할 여러 문제점들이 있다고 사료된다. Purpose: The treatment of mineral mud in rheumatic disease, psoriasis and other disease has been widely recognized in clinic application. We aim to explore the effect of mineral mud on the skin through it clinic application. Methods: We summarize the function of mineral mud in anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, et al and point out the existing in the application of mineral mud in cosmetics and its development status. Results: Mineral mud have positive effects on rheumatic diseases through its properties of anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidation. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that mineral mud had a good prospect in cosmetics, but there are still many problems to be solved.
Heat transfer of a sustainable personal garment cooling system

This paper provides examines sustainable personal cooling systems. The impact of micro-fan configuration and inflow airspeed was tested. First, three different types of test models-a garment with side seam micro-fans, scatter-fans, and bottom-fans, was used to analyze and compare the heat transfer characteristic. Second, a new index of convective heat transfer was used to evaluate the cooling performance of these models. Third, the selected model was calculated with three different inflow properties, and the performance of efficiency and energy saving was analyzed. The results show that the bottom-fans model yields the best performance both on efficiency and cooling effect. The evaluation of thermal environment shows that the defined indexes are reliable to reflect heat transfer characteristics in the air gap. The comparison study of different airspeeds shows that the inflow air velocity should be set at a suitable range due to the view of energy saving.
Reconfigurable Auxiliary Circuits for Transient Improvement in Multiprocessor Power Supplies

To meet the requirements of faster transient response in multiprocessor power supplies, this paper proposes a new auxiliary circuit that can be shared between several loads. The auxiliary circuit can connect to any load during the transient by reconfiguring the energy path. Costs and space are further saved since only one auxiliary circuit is needed, no matter how many processors the system has. The design of the auxiliary circuit is explained and implemented as a two-phase interleaved buck converter with several switches. Simulation results for a 250A step current with a slew rate of ±1200A/μs and experimental results for a 70A step current with a slew rate of -150A/μs are provided for verification, showing a 44% reduction in the overshoot voltage, a 34% reduction in the undershoot voltage, and nearly half the output capacitor area savings.

To further understand fundamental mechanisms of primary breakup and mixture formation in diesel engines, high speed microscopic imaging of the near-nozzle fuel behavior during the injection processes was conducted under both non-evaporating and evaporating diesel-like conditions. Fuel was injected into a high temperature and high pressure constant volume chamber by two single-hole injectors with the diameters of 0.14 mm and 0.28 mm. The high speed CMOS camera with a long distance microscopy and the 60 kHz diode laser were employed to record the near-nozzle field injection processes. At the room temperature conditions, small droplets were observed at the spray tip at the start of injection and along the jet boundaries during the quasi-steady injection processes. During the end-of-injection transients, while there were some poorly-atomized large droplets and ligaments with low penetration velocity, the mist-like tiny droplets with diameter around 14 micrometer suspending at the vicinity of the nozzle dominated the droplet number distribution. Under the 4.0 MPa and 900 K ambient conditions, no droplets and ligaments at the spray tip and along the jet boundaries were clearly observed before the end of fuel injection. During the end-of-injection transients, owing to the low penetration velocity and sparse distribution of the fuel, some droplets were observed, indicating the surface tension confining the liquid to a sphere shape; at the same time, however, some cotton-like structures were also observed, implying the diminishment of the surface tension of the fuel. To clarify these phenomena, the transcritical/supercritical effects and beam steering by the unevenness ambient gas with the high temperature were discussed in details.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs), which contain microRNA (miRNA), constitute a novel means of cell communication that may contribute to the inevitable expansion of renal fibrosis during diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Exendin-4 is effective for treating DKD through its action on GLP1R. However, the effect of exendin-4 on EV miRNA expression and renal cell communication during the development of DKD remains unknown. In this study, we found that EVs derived from HK-2 cells pre-treated with exendin-4 and high glucose (Ex-HG), which were taken up by normal HK-2 cells, resulted in decreased levels of FN and Col-I compared with EVs from HK-2 cells pre-treated with HG alone. Furthermore, we found that pretreatment with HG and exendin-4 may have contributed to a decrease in miR-192 in both HK-2 cells and EVs in a p53-dependent manner. Finally, we demonstrated that the amelioration of renal fibrosis by exendin-4 occurred through a miR-192-GLP1R pathway, indicating a new pathway by which exendin-4 regulates GLP1R. The results of this study suggest that exendin-4 inhibits the transfer of EV miR-192 from HG-induced renal tubular epithelial cells to normal cells, thus inhibiting GLP1R downregulation and protecting renal cells. This study reports a new mechanism by which exendin-4 exerts a protective effect against DKD.
A novel fault diagnosis method based on EMD, cyclostationary, SK and TPTSR

A novel method based on empirical model decomposition (EMD), cyclostationary, spectral kurtosis (SK) and two-phase test sample sparse representation (TPTSR), called ECK-TPTSR is proposed for fault diagnosis in this paper. In the ECK-TPTSR method, the vibration signal is decomposed into several components by EMD. Then each component can be modelled as cyclostationary for noise reduction. Next, the proposed method computes the kurtosis of the unbiased autocorrelation on the squared envelope of each component, and extracts the component with the highest kurtosis. Finally, the extracted component is used to construct training samples and test samples, which are input into the TPTSR classifier to fulfill fault classification accurately. Moreover, the experimental results indicate that the ECK-TPTSR method can effectively achieve fault diagnosis of motor bearing and obtain higher classification accuracy.
