        Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibrium for methanol+benzene+1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate

        Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for {methanol (1)+benzene (2)+1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (3)} where 3 is an ionic liquid ([OMIM]+[BF4]−) at atmospheric pressure (101.32 kPa) were measured with a modified Othmer still. The results showed that the ionic liquid studied can transfer the azeotropic point and eliminate the azeotropic phenomena when its concentration is up to x3=0.30. This means that [OMIM]+[BF4]− can be used as a promising entrainer in the application of extractive distillation. The measured ternary data were correlated using the NRTL model.

      • Design and Implementation of iOS-based Mobile Application about Awakening by CNR

        With the growing popularity of the iPhone, there is a constantly increasing demand of users for mobile applications of iPhone, in which the alarm clock application is contained. But existing alarm clock application is not favored by many users because of functional singleness. This paper presents an iOS-based mobile application on alarm clock with online radio support, and designs and implements its framework by virtue of Objective-C and SQLite in the Xcode 4.5.2 development environment, based on the popular three-tier MVC software design structure. After the application is installed and deployed on iPhone, it is available to users by providing some functions such as auto-playing radio, setting radio alarm clock, turning off the alarm by shaking iPhone, sleeping timer by radio, reserving radio program, binding and sharing microblog. This proposed iOS-based mobile application provides users with more choices and allows the user to enjoy a more colorful leisure time. The practical test from some people shows that the proposed application is very popular with users, which also illustrates its practicability and effectiveness.

        Life Satisfaction in China 2013: A Survey Study in Two Main Chinese Cities

        The Chinese economic growth rate has been much higher than many countries of the world for many years now. Nowadays, China is experiencing significant economic transformation and structural adjustment. Its speed of development is slowing, and housing and commodity prices are slowly rising. Consequently, a series of economic and social problems have come into being. Under these circumstances, how satisfied are Chinese people on the seven aspects of daily living such as Housing Situation, Household Income, Health, Family Life, Food, Human Relations and Job? The Media and Public Opinion Research Center of Fudan University (FMORC) conducted a phone survey of 606 people living in Beijing, the capital and political and cultural center of China, and Shanghai, the Chinese economic center. The survey results show that the overall satisfaction of Chinese people with their daily life is high. The levels of Family Life and Human Relations are on the top, those of Food, Health and Jobs are listed from the third to the fifth, and satisfaction levels of their Housing Situation and Household Income are on the bottom. The satisfaction levels of males with their Family Life and Health are higher than those of females. Age has a significantly negative correlation with satisfaction with personal health. Monthly income has positive relationships with four aspects of daily life - house income, job, house situation, and family life. Owning a house in cities is another important factor that influences satisfaction with the house situation, house income, food, and family life. Shanghai residents also show higher satisfaction with their health than Beijing residents.

        Molecular characterization and immunohistochemical localization of a mitogen-activated protein kinase, Accp38b, from Apis cerana cerana

        The p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) is involved in various processes, including stress responses, development, and differentiation. However, little information on p38 MAPK in insects is available. In this study, a p38 MAPK gene, $Accp38b$, was isolated from $Apis$ $cerana$ $cerana$ and characterized. The quantitative real-time PCR (Q-PCR) analysis revealed that $Accp38b$ was induced by multiple stressors. Notably, the expression of $Accp38b$ was relatively higher in the pupae phase than in other developmental phases. During the pupae phase, Accp38b expression was higher in the thorax than in the head and abdomen and higher in the fat body than in the muscle and midgut. Immunohistochemisty showed significant positive staining of Accp38b in sections from the brain, eyes, fat body, and midgut of $A.$ $cerana$ $cerana$. These results suggest that Accp38b may play a crucial role in stress responses and have multiple aspects function during development.

        Antioxidant Capacity of Maillard Reaction Products Formed by a Porcine Plasma Protein Hydrolysate-sugar Model System as Related to Chemical Characteristics

        This study investigated the chemical characteristicsand antioxidant properties of Maillard reaction products(MRPs) prepared by porcine plasma protein hydrolysate(PPH) with three monosaccharides (glucose, fructose, andgalactose) at 95oC for different lengths of time (0-6 h). Theresults revealed that the pH value and free amino groupcontent decreased (p<0.05), whereas the color (redness andyellowness), browning intensity, and intermediate productsincreased as the reaction time increased (p<0.05). Therewas an obvious increase in the reducing power, 2,2'-aminodi(2-ethyl-benzothiazoline sulfonic acid-6)ammonium salt(ABTS) radical and hydroxide radical scavenging activitiesof the MRPs with increasing heating time (p<0.05). ThePPH–galactose combination rendered a higher browningintensity, intermediate products and antioxidant activitiesthan the PPH–glucose or PPH–fructose combination. Thereducing power, ABTS and hydroxyl scavenging activitieswere significantly correlated with the color, the UVabsorbance and the browning intensity in each modelsystem. The results indicate that the Maillard reactioncould improve the antioxidant capacity of PPH.

        Identification of QTLs associated with the anaerobic germination potential using a set of Oryza nivara introgression lines

        Background Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is an important crop and a staple food for half of the population around the world. The recent water and labor shortages are encouraging farmers to shift from traditional transplanting to direct-seeding. However, poor germination and slow elongation of the coleoptile constrains large-scale application of direct-seeding. Objective Thisstudy was aimed to investigate the genetic basis of the anaerobic germination(AG) potential using a set of Oryza nivara (O. nivara) introgressionlines (ILs). Methods Inthis study, a total of 131 ILs were developed by introducing O. nivara chromosomesegments into the elite indica rice variety 93-11 through advanced backcrossingand repeated selfng. A high-density genetic map has been previouslyconstructed with 1,070 bin-markers. The seeds of ILs were germinated and usedto measure coleoptile length under normal and anaerobic conditions. QTLsassociated with AG potential were determined in rice. Results Basedon the high-density genetic map of the IL population, two QTLs, qAGP1 and qAGP3 associated with AG tolerance were characterized and locatedon chromosomes 1 and 3, respectively. Each QTL explained 15% of the phenotypic variance.Specifcally, the O. nivara-derived chromosomesegments of the two QTLs were positively tolerance to anaerobic condition byincreasing coleoptile length. In a further analysis of public transcriptomedata, a total of 26 and 36 genes within qAGP1 and qAGP3 were transcriptionallyinduced by anaerobic stress, respectively. Conclusions Utilizationof O. nivara-derived alleles at qAGP1 and qAGP3 can potentially enhance tolerance to anaerobic stress at thegermination stage in rice, thereby accelerating breeding of rice varieties tobe more adaptative for direct-seeding.

        What Frequency of Ankle Pump Exercise is Optimal to Improve Lower Limb Hemodynamics? A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis

        Purpose: Ankle pump exercises (APE) have been widely used in clinical practice. However, best practices for APE have not been established. Recognize the most effective frequency of APE for improving lower extremity hemodynamics and establish recommendations in clinical practice. Methods: Therefore, a systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) was performed according to PRISMA-NMA. Six English databases (Pubmed, Medline, CINAHL, Embase, the Cochrane library and ProQuest) and four Chinese databases (CNKI, Wanfang, VIP and Sinomed) were searched. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental studies investigating the effects of different frequencies of APE on lower limb hemodynamics published before July 2022 were included. The reference list was also searched. Seven studies (one RCTs and six quasi-experimental studies) were included in the systematic review and five studies (one RCTs and four quasi-experimental studies) were included in the NMA. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane and Joanna Briggs Institute tools. The NMA was performed using the R software (version 4.2.1) and OpenBUGS (version 3.2.3). Results: The results of the NMA showed that a frequency of every 3e4 s the most effective in improving lower extremity hemodynamics (P ¼.85), followed by every 1e2 s (P ¼ .81), every 5e6 s (P¼.32) and less than every 10 s (P ¼.02). Subgroup analysis failed to find a difference between healthy participants and those with unilateral total hip arthroplasty or fracture (MD ¼ À0.23, 95% CI-5.92 to 4.61). Conclusions: Consequencely, for adult patients, with or without lower extremity disease, a frequency of every 3e4 s can be recommended as the optimal frequency of APE in clinical care practice.

        Diet is the most important substantial base to ensure athletes nutrients needs and maintain the performance. It is important for the Olympic Gold Medal Strategy. An athlete is like a racing car. Therere two key factors for the car to run faster: the engine and the gasoline. The physical components decide the engines highest power while the diet is like the gasoline the better quality of the gasoline is, the faster the urns. It is inconsistent between the importance of diet for competitive sports and the ubiquity of diet imbalance. It will influence the training efficiency and the recovery after training for a long time, and consequently hinder the improvement of the performance.

        Genome‑wide association analysis of salt tolerance QTLs with SNP markers in maize (Zea mays L.)

        Background Salt-tolerant breeding of maize has great significance to the development and utilization of saline–alkaline soil and the maintenance of grain security. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) has been widely used in maize genetics and breeding. Objective To discover new salt-tolerant genes in maize by association analysis, which can provide technical supports for the innovation and genetic improvement of salt-tolerant germplasm resources in maize. Methods Totally 150 maize inbred lines were genotyped with a high-density chip. GWAS was carried out to identify the significant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) which were associated with maize salt tolerance. Totally 34,972 SNPs with high quality and diversity were selected from 56,110 SNP markers, which were distributed on 10 chromosomes of maize. The GLM algorithm in TASSEL5.2 was used to analyze the five traits related to salt tolerance. Results Using a strict LOD threshold of 4.5, totally 7 SNP loci were identified, which were significantly correlated with plant height change rate and fresh weight change rate. The high density fingerprints of 150 inbred lines were clustered by TASSEL5.2 software to construct genetic clustering map to estimate the genetic distance and the subgroups. The 150 maize inbred lines were divided into two groups: SS group and NSS group, and the SNP loci of the salt-tolerant index showed difference in chromosome distribution. Based on previous studies, we screened 8 candidate genes for salt tolerance in maize and four of them were further validated by real-time quantitative PCR. Conclusion Totally 7 SNP loci and 8 candidate genes related to salt tolerance in maize were identified, which will be of special value in molecular breeding of salt-tolerant maize.
