A computer program to determine the principal dimensions of ships, especially for bulk carriers, is developed using optimization techniques. Hooke & Jeeves' direct research method and the Sequential Unconstrained Minimization Techniques(SUMT) are used for solving the constrained nonlinear optimization problem. The Required Freight Rate(RFR) are used as an object function. Design variables are the ship's length, breadth, draft, block coefficient and the speed. Based on these variables, the computer program determines various design values such as deadweight, light ship weight, cargo capacity, seakeeping qualities etc. Computer programs are tested for bulk carriers and the results seems to be good for preliminary design stage.

A potential-based panel method has been developed to compute the wave resistances of ships. Normal dipoles and sources are distributed on the body surface and sources are distributed on the free surface. Free surface boundary condition is linearized with respect to the oncoming flow. Four points upwind finite differencing scheme has been used to satisfy the radiation condition. A non-planar hyperboloidal panel is adopted to represent the hull surface. The hyperboloidal panel, which can eliminate the leakage problem, requires relatively smaller number of panels compared with other lower order panel methods. The usefulness of the present method is shown by the comparison of computed results and the known experimental data.
벤치테스터를 이용한 Anti-Rolling Tank의 감쇠모멘트 추정에 관한 연구

Anti-Rolling Tank(ART)를 설계하기 위해서 필수적인 탱크내 물의 고유주기와 감쇠모멘트를 정확히 추정하기 위한 Bench Test 수행방법을 정립하였다. 점성의 영향을 최소화시키기 위해 폭 1m의 아크릴 모형탱크를 만들어 동요각도를 바꿔가며 탱크 내 물만에 의한 모멘트를 계측하여 탱크의 감쇠계수를 추정하였다. 구해진 탱크의 감쇠계수를 이용하여 ART가 설치된 선박의 공진시의 RAO(Response Amplitude Operator)를 계산하고 ART의 효과를 확인하였다. Bench test procedures are established to evaluate the damping coefficient of a anti-rolling tank which is an essential factor in the ART design. Acryl model tank larger than 1m breadth is made to minimize the viscous effect of the tank and the stabilizing moments in the tank are measured for various roll angles. Using the obtained tank damping coefficient, RAO(Response Amplitude Operator) value in the resonance range is computed and the stabilizing effect of a ART has been estimated.

The prevalence of PPNG among pretreated gonorrhea cases isolated at the STD clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul has been studied and reported annually since 1981. In 1991, 123 strains of N.gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 58(47.1%) were PPNG. In 1992, 98 starains of N.gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 51(52.0%) were PPNG. In all, 109(49.3%) strains were found to be PPNG among 221 strains isolated between 1991-1992. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul showed increased tendency till 1989, thereafter, it has been stationary or slightly decreasing.
On the Passive type Anti-Rolling Tank and its Activation by Air Blower

The systematic results of anti-rolling tanks tests obtained by bench tester and roll test in towing tank have been examined. The effects on the oscillating period of fluid transfer through the duct of U-tube tank due to damper plates and the effects on roll damping moment of the tank due to swash plates are alto evaluated from the results. A simple control algorithm for a forced fluid transfer in U-tube tanks if devised to active operation of the tank by air blower. The active performances of the tank are confirmed very effective through the tank tests carried out in the irregular waves.

A potential-based panel method is presented for the analysis of a partially or supercavitating two-dimensional hydrofoil at a finite submergence beneath a free surface, treating without approximation the effects of the finite Froude number and the hydrostatic pressure. Free surface sources and normal dipoles are distributed on the foil and cavity surfaces, their strength being determined by satisfying the kinematic and dynamic boundary conditions on the foil-cavity boundary. The cavity surface is determined iteratively as a part of the solution. Numerical results show that the wave profile is altered significantly due to the presence of the cavity. The buoyancy effect due to the hydrostatic pressure, which has usually been neglected in most of the cavitating flow analysis, is found playing an important role, especially for the supercavitating hydrofoil; the gravity field increases the cavity size in shallow submergence, but decreases when deeply submerged, while the lift is reduced at all depth.
