The experiments were conducted to determine the factors such as light and darkness, phytohormone and seed coat, influencing on seed germination of Bidens tripartita L. and B. frondosa. The seeds of both species were germinated when seed coat was damaged and weakened GA3 and BA stimulated germination of both species but ABA and IAA had no effect on germination of them, which ranged 50.0% to 80.0%. In B. forndosa, when inner layer of seed coat was removed, germination was highly promoted up to 96.7% compared with 10.0% germination rate in another treatments.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P><B>Introduction:</B></P><P>Women with infertility who have a poor ovarian responder (POR), characterized by a low number of retrieved oocytes after ovulation induction, often have a significantly reduced pregnancy rate after in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET), due to the few transferred embryos. Acupuncture is a form of Korean Traditional Medicine. It involves the insertion of a microscopic needle at a specific point in the body, known as an acupuncture point or an acupoint. In this study, our purpose is to investigate how acupuncture affects the retrieval of mature oocytes after ovulation induction in patients with POR.</P><P><B>Methods and analysis:</B></P><P>This study will be a randomized clinical trial comprising an IVF-ET trial and an IVF-ET trial after acupuncture. Seventy patients will by enrolled and randomly assigned to either of the 2 groups. The study subjects will be required to be diagnosed as having POR. Participants will be divided into 2 groups: IVF-ET single treatment group, and acupuncture and IVF-ET combined treatment group. The study subjects will be required to participate in a 15-week trial involving 16 acupuncture treatments over a period of approximately 2 months before ovulation induction for oocyte retrieval. The primary assessment of all participants will be comparing the number of oocytes.</P><P><B>Result:</B></P><P>This treatment will be a therapeutic model for POR.</P><P><B>Discussion:</B></P><P>Our results will provide patients with POR as well as complementary and alternative medicine professionals, such as Korean medicine doctors, about the potential role of acupuncture in the treatment of POR. This will improve the quality of life in women with infertility and provide an important treatment option for patients with POR. Further studies can be performed to determine the optimal treatment for POR.</P>

<P>Staurosporine induces the production of reactive oxygen species, which play an important causative role in apoptotic cell death. Recently, it was demonstrated that the control of cellular redox balance and the defense against oxidative damage is one of the primary functions of cytosolic NADP(+)-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDPc) by supplying NADPH for antioxidant systems. The present report shows that silencing of IDPc expression in HeLa cells greatly enhances apoptosis induced by staurosporine. Transfection of HeLa cells with an IDPc small interfering RNA (siRNA) markedly decreased activity of IDPc, enhancing the susceptibility of staurosporine-induced apoptosis reflected by DNA fragmentation, cellular redox status and the modulation of apoptotic marker proteins. These results indicate that IDPc may play an important role in regulating the apoptosis induced by staurosporine and the sensitizing effect of IDPc siRNA on the apoptotic cell death of HeLa cells offers the possibility of developing a modifier of cancer chemotherapy.</P>

We developed a novel water-soluble camptothecin analobue, CKD602, and evaluated the inhibition of topoisomerase I and the antitumor activities against mammalian tumor cells and human tumor xenografts. CKD602 was a nanomolar inhibitor of the topoisomerase I enzyme in the cleavable complex assay. CKD602 was found to be 3 times and slightly more potent than topotecan and camptothecin as inhibitors of topoisomerase, respecitively. In tumor cell cytotoxicity, CKD602 was more potent than topotecan in 14 out of 26 human cancer cell lines tested, while it was comparable to camptothecin. CKD602 was tested for the in vivo antitumor activity against the human tumor xenograft models. CKD602 was able to imduce regression of established HT-29, WIDR and CX-1 colon tumors, LX-1 lung tumor, MX-1 breast tumor and SKOV-3 ovarian tumor as much as 80, 94, 76, 67, 87% and 88%, respectively, with comparable body weight changes to those of topotecan. Also the therapeutic margin (R/Emax: maximum tolerance dose/$ED-{58}$) of CKD602 was significantly higher than that of topotecan by 4 times. Efficacy was determined at the maximal tolerated dose levels using schedule dependent i.p. administration in mice bearing L1210 leukemia. On a Q4dx4 (every 4 day for 4 doses) schedule, the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) was 25 mg/kg per administration, which caused great weight loss and lethality in <5% tumor bearing mouse. this schedule brought significant increase in life span (ILS), 212%, with 33% of long-term survivals. The ex vivo antitumor activity of CKD602 was compared with that of topotecan and the mean antitumor index (ATI) values recorded for CKD602 were significantly higher than that noted for topotecan. From these results, CKD602 warrants further clinical investigations as a potent inhibitor of topoisomerase I.

The pharmacokinetics of CKD-732 (6-0-4-[dimethyl-aminoethoxy)cinnamoyl]-fumagillolㆍhemioxalate) was investigated in male SD rats and beagle dogs after bolus intravenous administration. The parent compound and metabolites obtained from in vitro and in vivo samples were determined by LC/MS. The main metabolite was isolated and identified as an N-oxide form of CKD-732 by NMR and LC/MS/MS. CKD-732 was metabolized into either M11 or others by rapid hydroxylation, demethylation, and hydrolysis. The blood level following the intravenous route declined in first-order kinetics with $T_{1}$2/$\beta$ values of 0.72-0.78 h for CKD-732 and 0.92-1.09 h for M11 in rats at a dose of 7.5-30 mg/kg. In dogs, $T_{1}$2/$\beta$ values of CKD-732 and M11 were 1.54 and 1.79 h, respectively. Moreover, AUC values increased dose dependently for CKD-732 and M11 in rats and dogs. The CLtot and Vdss did not change significantly with increasing dose, indicating linear pharmacokinetic patterns. The excretion patterns through the urine, bile, and feces were also examined in the animals. The total amount excreted in urine, bile, and feces was 2.13% for CKD-732 and 1.29% for M11 in rats, and 1.58% for CKD-732 and 2.28% for M11 in dogs.

<P>Cadmium is known to exhibit high affinity for thiol groups and may therefore severely disturb many cellular functions. We have demonstrated that the control of mitochondrial redox balance and oxidative damage is one of the primary functions of mitochondrial NADP+-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDPm). When exposed to cadmium, IDPm was susceptible to loss of enzyme activity and structural alterations. Site-directed mutagenesis confirms that binding of cadmium occurs to a Cys379 of IDPm. We examined the antioxidant mechanism-mediated protective role of IDPm against cadmium-induced apoptosis with human embryonic kidney 293 cells transfected with the IDPm cDNA in sense and antisense orientations. As a result, we observed a clear inverse relationship between the amount of IDPm expressed in target cells and their susceptibility to cadmium-induced modulation of cellular redox status and apoptosis. In addition, loss of glutaredoxin (Grx, thioltransferase) activity by cadmium was more pronounced in antisense cells compared with the sense cells. When oxalomalate, a competitive inhibitor of IDPm, was administered to mice, inhibition of IDPm and Grx and enhanced susceptibility to apoptosis were observed upon their exposure to cadmium. These results suggest that IDPm plays an important protective role in cadmium-induced apoptosis by maintaining cellular redox status and by protection of Grx activity.</P>

RUP(Rational Unified Process)는 객체 지향적이며 사용사례 및 아키텍처 중심의 반복적인 개발방법론이다. 이전에 수행된 대부분 공공분야의 대규모 소프트웨어 개발은 폭포수형 개발 프로세스를 적용하였으나 최근에는 소프트웨어 개발에 따른 위험을 최소화 하고 품질을 향상하기 위하여 RUP와 같은 반복 개발방법의 적용을 시도하고 있다. 그러나 대규모 복합 체계의 개발 프로세스와 그 일부인 소프트웨어 개발 프로세스로서 RUP를 적용한 국내의 연구 자료는 미흡한 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 RUP를 기반으로 복합 체계의 일부인 소프트웨어를 개발하는 프로세스를 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 국내 CIS 소프트웨어 개발 사례를 통하여 체계개발 프로세스와 통합된 RUP 프로세스를 제시하고 기존의 폭포수형 프로세스 및 RUP와 비교 평가를 한다. 본 논문의 연구결과는 공공기관에서 대규모 복합체계의 소프트웨어를 개발하는 경우에 RUP 기반 프로세스의 조정, 개발관리에 있어서 위험의 최소화와 최종 제품의 품질향상에 기여할 것으로 믿는다. RUP(Rational Unified Process) is a development process which is based on object-oriented, use case centric, architecture centric, and iterative approach. Public projects performed previously adopt waterfall lifecycle model for development of large scale software. However, recently various projects adopt an iterative approach to minimize risks of a project and to enhance quality of software. But few research result on practices of RUP as the subprocess of system development process is available.This paper presents a system development process which uses RUP as the subprocess for a subset of the system. Thus we introduce a tailored RUP for K-CIS(Korean Core Instrumentation System). Moreover, we assess the application result of K-CIS with typical waterfall lifecycle model and RUP. We believe that the results of our work are useful for tailoring a system development process with RUP, reducing risks of development, and enhancing the quality of a final product.
