Lee Geon Cheong. 2002. A Study on Sung Chan Kyung's Poetry. Sung Chan-kyun pursue the poetry of totality that means synthesizing the different factors like 'poetry and drama', 'art and science', 'religion and sicence' Through these Unique works, which widen and deepen the possibility of Korean poetry, he wrote metaphysical poetry. He tried "Milhackjuck method(condensing method)" that means through putting the maximum density of meaning into a word, putting a maximum weight into a sentence. He intended to making a poetry with nothing but an essential factors. Sung Chan-kyung has continually written about mystery of life and being. His poetic theme contains from the inner world, where he can see though the origin of the being, to outer world, where he can face the origin of the modern civilization. He wrote criticising poetry on the anti-humane side of modern civilization. And He wrote poetry about ecological crisis.

The Korean poetical circles brought out many pastorals in the 1930's increased all kinds of Japanese enpresure. In those days, the presentation of many pastorals will probaly be out home-coming consciousness from the realistic discouragement. This manyscrupt noticed pastoral begun to show up an obvious expression in this time. This makes mutal lelation clear about the current circumstances and pastoral of the 1930's, and clear up a definite aspect of Korean pastoral. On one side, this clear up the enpression effect the correlaction of Choson Dynasty' poetry and Western Europ' pastoral, too. So, this manuscript analyzed and synthesized all poets kept the pastoral tendency written in the 1930's in order to examine the about purpose.

As above mentioned, Korean pastoral poetry, founded on the tradition of the pastoral poetry of the Yi Dynasty, was influenced by some of the Western elements. The foreign elements accepted and transformed in the traditional flow of native pastoral poetry are as follows: Since the modernization of Korea, however, "childhood" has frequently been sung of in Korean pastoral poetry as one of the important ideas. This reflects Western influence since childhood is also regarded as one of the representative ideas in Wesern pastoral poetry. "Arcadia", the typical place of retirement in Western pastoral poems is transfigured into "Romote Land" or "Namchon" in Korean pastoral poetry. While "Dowhawon" of Doyonmyung represented fantasy beyond actual reality, "Arcadia" "Remote Land" or "Namchon" represent realistic ideas directly related to human life. The shepherds, "Corin" or "Michael" of Western pastoral are transfigured into different figures in Korean pastoral poetry. The peculiar fact that "sheep" and "shepherd", not "cow" frequently appear in Korean pastoral poetry where agriculture forms the basic pattern of life also indicates Western influence on Korean pastoral poetry. The pastoral poetry of the Yi Dynasty mostly concerned ideas and rarely used images. In Korean pastoral poetry, however, we can often, find emotional expressions using images, those images savoring strongly of Western tastes.
後半期 同人과 모더니즘的 追究 : 朴寅煥의 詩를 中心으로

This study is to explain the merits and demerits of the modernist movement which appeared around 1950's by defining Back In-whan's poetic works which had been the essence of "Hubangi" fellow members. The modernist movement in Korea was, starting in 1930's pursu-ited by "Hubangi" group. Korea was set gree in 1945 from Japanese-colonial policy of 36 years, and in 1950 was once again was drawn into a whirlpool of the Koran War. In these violentlyshaking pe-riods, "Hubangi" group attempted to cast off the old traditional elements of Korean poetry and to seek new poetic expressions. "Hubangi" poetic group attempted to express the characteristics of modernism thrugh poetic works which contained "urbane" imagery and "cultural" criticism. Back In-whan showed such a modernist tendency of "Hubangi" group and he himself was the actual leader of the movement However, the modernist movement pursuited by them seems to have had an inclination only to show a mere modernistic atmosp-here, not to plunge into a deeper sea of modernism. Therefore, what is significant in the movement of "Hubangi" poetic group seems to lie in their attempt to change the traditional stream of Korean poetry.
