<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Although the Gelidiales are economically important marine red algae producing agar and agarose, the phylogeny of this order remains poorly resolved. The present study provides a molecular phylogeny based on a novel marker, nuclear-encoded <I>Ces</I>A, plus plastid-encoded <I>psa</I>A, <I>psb</I>A, <I>rbc</I>L, and mitochondria-encoded <I>cox</I>1 from subsets of 107 species from all ten genera within the Gelidiales. Analyses of individual and combined datasets support the monophyly of three currently recognized families, and reveal a new clade. On the basis of these results, the new family Orthogonacladiaceae is described to accommodate <I>Aphanta</I> and a new genus <I>Orthogonacladia</I> that includes species previously classified as <I>Gelidium madagascariense</I> and <I>Pterocladia rectangularis</I>. <I>Acanthopeltis</I> is merged with <I>Gelidium</I>, which has nomenclatural priority. Nuclear-encoded <I>Ces</I>A was found to be useful for improving the resolution of phylogenetic relationships within the Gelidiales and is likely to be valuable for the inference of phylogenetic relationship among other red algal taxa.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A comprehensive molecular phylogeny of 107 species in ten genera of the Gelidiales is provided for the first time. </LI> <LI> Nuclear <I>Ces</I>A is an informative molecular marker for the phylogeny of the Gelidiales. </LI> <LI> Multi-gene phylogenies (including 5 markers) improve resolution of phylogenetic relationships in the Gelidiales. </LI> <LI> A new genus and a new family are described: <I>Orthogonacladia</I> gen. nov. and Orthogonacladiaceae fam. nov. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>The agarophyte family Gelidiellaceae currently includes 26 species in two genera, Gelidiella and Parviphycus, but the generic status and species boundaries have not been fully explored. In order to resolve taxonomic issues in the family, we analyzed mitochondria-encoded cox1 and plastid-encoded rbcL and psaA genes from types and fresh collections including topotype material. The Gelidiellaceae was resolved with five distinct groups, interpreted here as representing five genera: (1) Gelidiella, including the type, (2) Huismaniella gen. nov., (3) Millerella gen. nov., (4) Parviphycus s. str. including the type, and (5) Perronella gen. nov. Gelidiella was recognized as including a new species, G. flabella, that is described for specimens from Madagascar. A new genus, Huismaniella, is described for the species previously known as Gelidiella ramellosa, characterized by lateral tetrasporangial branchlets inserted at right angles on erect axes and irregularly arranged tetrasporangia. Parviphycus includes P. adnatus which is characterized by simple thalli with tetrasporangial branchlets formed directly on prostate axes and holdfasts forming continuous fringes along the entire length of prostrate axes. The new genus Millerella is described to accommodate five species previously known as Gelidiella or Parviphycus, characterized by tetrasporangial sori formed on erect axes or branches and unicellular rhizoids forming irregular clumps along prostrate axes. Perronella gracilis gen. et sp. nov. is described for plants with terete axes, multifarious branching, and monosporangia formed on erect axes and branches. The implications for nomenclature, taxonomic revisions, and biogeography in the Gelidiellaceae are discussed.</P>
Standards-Based Worldwide Semantic Interoperability for IoT

<P>Global IoT services (GIoTS) are combining locally available IoT resources with cloud-based services. They are targeting worldwide services. GIoTS require interoperability between the locally installed heterogeneous IoT systems. Semantic processing is an important technology to enable data mediation as well as knowledge-based processing. This article explains a system architecture for achieving worldwide semantic interoperability using international standards such as oneM2M and the OMA NGSI-9/10 context interfaces (as used in the European Future Internet Platform FIWARE). Semantics also enables the use of knowledge-based semantic processing agents. Furthermore, we explain how semantic verification enables the testing of such complex systems.</P>
