        Validity and Reliability of Metacognitive Rating Scale for Nursing Students

        Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the reliability and validity of the metacognition rating scale (MCRS), which is a revised version of the existing metacognition questionnaire (MCQ) with anger and anxiety added. Methods: A survey was conducted on 591 nursing students at colleges in North and South Gyeongsang Provinces, South Korea. The collected data were processed for the reliability and validity of the MCRS through Cronbach’s α and confirmatory factor analysis using SPSS 26.0. Results: Cronbach’s α for the reliability of MCRS was calculated at .88, .86, .77, .74, and .66 for five subfactors. Among the five subfactors, the first, second, third, and fifth factors showed high correlation in each of six items. Factor 4 was highly correlated in 5 out of 6 questions. Conclusion: The data confirm that the MCQ revised to include anger and anxiety is both reliable and valid for nursing students. Therefore, this scale can be used to identify the maladaptive metacognition of nursing students in stressful situations.

        한국어 프레젠테이션 능력 향상을 위한 기호 읽기 교육 연구 -학습자 발표에 나타난 기호의 언어화를 중심으로-

        This study aims to examine what Korean language learners should learn to restore symbols of presentation materials in natural sentences. How to verbalize the compressed content of visual materials in the presentation is significant. Symbols are a typical way used to compress content. Therefore, restoring symbols to complete sentences is an essential element of presentation ability. This study analyzed the process of Korean language learners organizing visual materials and using them to present them. In particular, we focused on how they expressed symbols in vocabulary, grammar, and sentence patterns in the target language. The significance of the study is that it reminded us of the importance of verbalizing symbols in the Korean language presentation. (Kyung Hee University)

        Matchmaker : Fuzzy Vault Scheme for Weighted Preference

        Juels와 Sudan의 퍼지 볼트 기법은 기법이 갖는 오류 내성 때문에 많은 연구에 사용 되어오고 있다. 그러나 이들의 퍼지 볼트 기법은 그들의 논문에서 영화 애호가 문제를 예를 들었음에도 불구하고, 사람들이 일반적으로 갖는 선호도(preference)의 차이에 대한 고려가 존재하지 않는다. 한편, Nyang과 Lee는 안전하고 성능이 좋은 얼굴인증 시스템을 만들기 위해서, 얼굴 특징이 서로 다른 가중치를 갖도록 얼굴 특징과 퍼지 볼트(vault) 사이에 특별한 연관 구조를 갖는 얼굴 인증 시스템(이른바, 퍼지 얼굴 볼트)을 소개하였다. 그러나 그들의 기법은 일반적인 특징 추출 기법들이 클래스 내부/간 차이를 최적화하려는 특성이 있기 때문에 인증 실패율을 성공적으로 낮추지 못할 것으로 쉽게 예상할 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 퍼지 볼트의 유연성을 제공해주기 위하여 Nyang과 Lee의 퍼지 볼트기반의 얼굴 인증 시스템에서 가중치 아이디어를 다른 방식으로 구현한 버킷(bucket) 구조와 사용자 선호도와 시스템 구현 간 관계를 공식화하는 세 가지 분포 함수에 대해서 소개한다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 선호도 매치메이커(preference matchmaker) 기법을 제안하며, 영화 데이터베이스를 이용하여 이러한 매치메이커의 연산 성능을 확인해본다. Juels and Sudan’s fuzzy vault scheme has been applied to various researches due to its error-tolerance property. However, the fuzzy vault scheme does not consider the difference between people’s preferences, even though the authors instantiated movie lover’ case in their paper. On the other hand, to make secure and high performance face authentication system, Nyang and Lee introduced a face authentication system, so-called fuzzy face vault, that has a specially designed association structure between face features and ordinary fuzzy vault in order to let each face feature have different weight. However, because of optimizing intra/inter class difference of underlying feature extraction methods, we can easily expect that the face authentication system does not successfully decrease the face authentication failure. In this paper, for ensuring the flexible use of the fuzzy vault scheme, we introduce the bucket structure, which differently implements the weighting idea of Nyang and Lee’s face authentication system, and three distribution functions, which formalize the relation between user’s weight of preferences and system implementation. In addition, we suggest a matchmaker scheme based on them and confirm its computational performance through the movie database.

        최근 제안된 두 그룹서명기법의 암호분석

        연결불가능성(unlinkability)과 추적불가능성(traceability)은 그룹서명이 만족해야 하는 기본적인 요구사항이다. 본 논문에서 최근 Lee등과 Zhu등에 의해서 제안된 두 그룹 서명기법들이 갖는 취약점을 분석하였다. Lee등의 기법은 합법적인 서명자가 생성한 서명을 검증할 수 없는 설계상의 치명적인 문제를 갖고 있으며, 검증과정이 안고 있는 문제와 별개로 동일한 서명자가 생성한 서명을 항상 링크할 수 있음을 보인다. 또, Zhu등의 그룹서명기법에서 그룹의 관리자가 추적할 수 없도록 서명을 생성하는 것이 가능함을 보이고, 저자들의 주장과 달리, 그들의 기법이 전방향 안전성을 만족하지 않음을 보인다. Unlinkability and traceability are basic security requirements of a group signature scheme. In this paper, we analyze two recent group signature schemes, Lee et al.'s scheme and Zhu et al.'s scheme. We show that Lee et al.’s scheme does not work correctly. Further, it fails to meet unlinkability, that is, anyone who intercepts or receives group signatures are able to check if they are from the same signer. We also show that Zhu et al.'s scheme is unable to satisfy traceability, that is, a malicious group member can generate valid group signatures that cannot be opened. Moreover, once becoming group member, the malicious group member will never be revoked from group. Besides, Zhu et al.'s scheme fails to satisfy forward security, a requirement claimed by authors.

        지역사회에서 형성된 사회적 지지와 근로자의 사회심리적 스트레스간의 관련성

        Objective: This study was performed to examine the relationship between community-based social support and psychosocial distress in workers. Methods: The study subjects were 596 workers recruited from 11 companies in Chungju city. A structured questionnaire was used to assess sociodemographics, health-related behaviors, job characteristics, job stress, work-based social support, community-based social support and level of psychosocial distress. Results: Hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that workers with no chronic disease, exercise and sufficient sleep had a higher score of psychosocial distress than those with chronic disease, no exercise, and not enough sleep. Coworker's work-based social support and community-based social support were negatively associated with psychosocial distress. The R square value of total independent variables on psychosocial distress was 0.409, and that of community-based social support on psychosocial distress was 0.052. Conclusion: This study showed that community-based social support served as a protective factor against psychosocial distress in some workers. We recommend the establishment of a worksite stress reduction program in occupational level as well as community-based social support.

      • Bioreducible Polymer Micelles Based on Acid-Degradable Poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(amino ketal) Enhance the Stromal Cell-Derived Factor-1α Gene Transfection Efficacy and Therapeutic Angiogenesis of Human Adipose-Derived Stem Cells

        <P>Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) have the potential to treat ischemic diseases. In general, ADSCs facilitate angiogenesis by secreting various pro-angiogenic growth factors. However, transplanted ADSCs have a low therapeutic efficacy in ischemic tissues due to their poor engraftment and low viability. Stromal cell-derived factor-1α (SDF-1α) improves the survival rate of stem cells transplanted into ischemic regions. In this study, we developed acid-degradable poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(amino ketal) (PEG-PAK)-based micelles for efficient intracellular delivery of <I>SDF-1α</I> plasmid DNA. The <I>SDF-1α gene</I> was successfully delivered into human ADSCs (hADSCs) using PEG-PAK micelles. Transfection of <I>SDF-1α</I> increased <I>SDF-1α</I>, vascular endothelial growth factor, and basic fibroblast growth factor gene expression and decreased apoptotic activity in hADSCs cultured under hypoxic conditions in comparison with conventional gene transfection using polyethylenimine. <I>SDF-1α</I>-transfected hADSCs also showed significantly increased <I>SDF-1α</I> and VEGF expression together with reduced apoptotic activity at 4 weeks after transplantation into mouse ischemic hindlimbs. Consequently, these cells improved angiogenesis in ischemic hindlimb regions. These PEG-PAK micelles may lead to the development of a novel therapeutic modality for ischemic diseases based on an acid-degradable polymer specialized for gene delivery.</P>

        Pathogen inducible voltage-dependent anion channel (AtVDAC) isoforms are localized to mitochondria membrane in Arabidopsis

        <P>Voltage-dependent anion channels (VDACs) are reported to be porin-type, beta-barrel diffusion pores. They are prominently localized in the outer mitochondrial membrane and are involved in metabolite exchange between the organelle and the cytosol. In this study, we have investigated a family of VDAC isoforms in Arabidopsis thaliana (AtVDAC). We have shown that the heterologous expression of AtVDAC proteins can functionally complement a yeast mutant lacking the endogenous mitochondrial VDAC gene. AtVDACs tagged with GFP were localized to mitochondria in both yeast and plant cells. We also looked at the response of AtVDACs to biotic and abiotic stresses and found that four AtVDAC transcripts were rapidly up-regulated in response to a bacterial pathogen.</P>

      • Phototoxicity and chronic toxicity of methyl paraben and 1,2-hexanediol in Daphnia magna

        <P>Parabens are used as antimicrobial preservatives in consumer products. Exposure to methylparaben (MP) has been associated with adverse health outcomes, therefore, an alternative compound, 1,2-hexanediol (1,2-H), has been applied for cosmetics. In the present study, the phototoxicity of MP and 1,2-H, as well as the toxic effect caused by chronic exposure, were investigated using Daphnia magna. The 48 h acute toxicity tests with D. magna were conducted under indoor or ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation conditions, i.e., exposure to 4 h/d sunlight. Changes in the transcription of genes related to oxidative stress were determined in D. magna juveniles, to investigate the underlying mechanism of phototoxicity. The 21 d chronic toxicity tests of MP and 1,2-H were performed under indoor light irradiation. Exposure to MP under environmental level of UV light was more detrimental to D. magna. Transcripts of catalase and glutathione-S-transferase genes in D. magna was significantly increased by co-exposure to MP and UV light. After 21 d of chronic exposure to MP and 1,2-H, the reproduction no-observed effect concentrations for D. magna were 1 and > 10 mg/L, respectively. The present study showed that exposure to UV could magnify the toxicity of MP on daphnids. Although acute and chronic toxicities of 1,2-H were generally lower than those of MP, its effects on other aquatic organisms should not be ignored. Further studies are needed to identify other mechanisms of MP phototoxicity.</P>

      • ER71 Acts Downstream of BMP, Notch, and Wnt Signaling in Blood and Vessel Progenitor Specification

        <P><B>Summary</B></P><P>FLK1-expressing (FLK1<SUP>+</SUP>) mesoderm generates blood and vessels. Here, we show that combined BMP, Notch, and Wnt signaling is necessary for efficient FLK1<SUP>+</SUP> mesoderm formation from embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Inhibition of BMP, Notch, and Wnt signaling pathways greatly decreased the generation of FLK1<SUP>+</SUP> mesoderm and expression of the Ets transcription factor <I>Er71</I>. Enforced expression of ER71 in ESCs resulted in a robust induction of FLK1<SUP>+</SUP> mesoderm; rescued the generation of FLK1<SUP>+</SUP> mesoderm when blocked by BMP, Notch, and Wnt inhibition; and enhanced hematopoietic and endothelial cell generation. <I>Er71</I>-deficient mice had greatly reduced FLK1 expression, died early in gestation, and displayed severe blood and vessel defects that are highly reminiscent of the <I>Flk1</I> null mouse phenotype. Collectively, we provide compelling evidence that ER71 functions downstream of BMP, Notch, and Wnt signals and regulates FLK1<SUP>+</SUP> mesoderm, blood, and vessel development.</P>
