        Von Recklinghausen씨 병에 병발한 악성 신경초종 : Case Report

        Malignant peripheral nerve tumors are very rare and derived from the neurofibromatosis in about 13%. There are two classes of malignant tumors in the peripheral nerves, one those of mesoblastic origin, is far most common and made up of malignant neurofibroma and much common fibrosarcoma, and metastasis in 20% of fibrosarcoma, and the other is neuroepithelial origin. These are characterized by increased cellularity, atypical from of cells, mitoses and invasiveness. The choice treatment is radical removal of the tumor, and not affected the prognosis by radiation or chemotherapy. We have been recently experienced of one case of malignant schwannoma on the cervical roots in a case of von Recklinhausen's disease.

        Hematogeneous spread from tuberculous lesions of other parts of the body represent the origin of intracranial tuberculomas. In most series of the literature, the cerebellum has about two thirds and the cerebral hemispheres about one third of the intracranial tuberculomas. It may occurs as a single lesion, but multiple intracranial tuberculomas varies from 10% to 33% of the cases due to the hematogenous spread. Calcium deposits are rare, occurring in about 6% of cases. Ramamurthi and Varadarajan described the two types of the intracranial tuberculoma; 1. superficial and vascular type, produces early focal signs of increased intracranial pressure. 2. deep and avascular type, accoampained by signs of increased intracranial pressure. We have been experienced in one case of symmetrical and bilateral cerebellar tuberculomas probably originated from the pulmonary lesion.

        Carrier-free nanoparticles of cathepsin B-cleavable peptide-conjugated doxorubicin prodrug for cancer targeting therapy

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Cancer nanomedicine using nanoparticle-based delivery systems has shown outstanding promise in recent decades for improving anticancer treatment. However, limited targeting efficiency, low drug loading efficiency and innate toxicity of nanoparticles have caused severe problems, leaving only a few available in the clinic. Here, we newly developed carrier-free nanoparticles of cathepsin B-cleavable peptide (Phe-Arg-Arg-Gly; FRRG)-conjugated doxorubicin (DOX) prodrug (FRRG-DOX) that formed a stable nanoparticle structure with an average diameter of 213 nm in aqueous condition. The carrier-free nanoparticles of FRRG-DOX induced cytotoxicity against cathepsin B-overexpressed tumor cells whereas the toxicity was minimized in normal cells. In particular, the FRRG-DOX nanoparticles showed the successful tumor-targeting ability and enhanced therapeutic efficiency in human colon adenocarcinoma (HT-29) tumor-bearing mice <I>via</I> enhanced permeation and retention (EPR) effect. Furthermore, FRRG-DOX nanoparticles did not present any severe toxicity, such as non-specific cell death and cardiac toxicity, in normal tissues due to minimal expression of cathepsin B. This carrier-free nanoparticles of FRRG-DOX can solve the unavoidable problems of current nanomedicine, such as lower targeting efficiency, toxicity of nanoparticles themselves, and difficulty in mass production that are fatally caused by natural and synthetic nano-sized carriers.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        소뇌교각에 발생된 원발성 황문근육종 1예

        The primary rhabdomyosarcoma of the brain is very rare. There are only 14 cases reported in the literatures till 1975, and the majority of them were arised in the cerebellum. The intracranial rhabdomyosarcomas may be originated from the multipotent mesenchymal cells of aberren?? muscle tissue in the leptomeninges. The histological 3 types are adult pleomorphic, alveolar and embryonal type. The demonstration of cross-striation is confirmed for diagnosis of this tumor. All of these tumors tend to have a short clinical course, but the survival time seems to be slightly improved by surgical excision followed by radiotherapy. We have recently experienced one case of primary rhabdomyosarcoma in the left cerebello-pontine angle of 9 year-old girl, which was confirmed by operation and complete autopsy.

        Effect of Thermal Degradation of SFF-Based PLGA Scaffolds Fabricated Using a Multi-head Deposition System Followed by Change of Cell Growth Rate

        <P>Solid free-form fabrication (SFF) technology is used to fabricate scaffolds with controllable characteristics including well-defined pore size and porosity. The multi-head deposition system (MHDS), one form of SFF technology, may be more advantageous than others for fabricating scaffolds because a MHDS does not require the use of a cytotoxic solvent. This method, however, may induce the thermal degradation of raw materials and a subsequent decrease in the material's molecular weight, whereby hydrolytic degradation, resulting in acidic by-products, might be accelerated. This study investigated whether fabrication of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) scaffolds using a MHDS with various residence times in the heating step induces thermal degradation and affects the proliferation of cells seeded on the scaffold in vitro. To answer this question, we fabricated porous three-dimensional PLGA scaffolds using residence times of 1, 3, 5 and 7 days for groups 1 through 4, respectively. Degradation behavior of the scaffolds was observed for 7 weeks in phosphate-buffered saline solution (pH 7.4) at 37 degrees C. The molecular weight, glass transition temperature and mechanical properties were compared for PLGA scaffolds fabricated with each of the four residence times at 120 degrees C. The proliferation rate of MC3T3-E1 cells grown on each group of scaffolds was compared to investigate the effect of acidic by-products on the growth of seeded cells in vitro. The heat process applied in fabrication of SFF-based PLGA scaffolds induced considerable thermal degradation followed by a decrease in molecular weight and mechanical compressive strength of the scaffolds in groups 3 and 4, which had more than 3 days residence time. Moreover, the cell proliferation rate was significantly higher for group 1 than for groups 3 and 4.</P>

        Technetium 99 M을 이용한 뇌주사의 임상분석

        Technetium 99 M pertechnetate has become a valuable material for the radioisotopic brain scan. This was introduced by Haper in 1963 and is now widely used in the medical field. The advantages are easy administeration, high count rate with potential for high speed scanning, absence of beta radiation and decreasing time for test. We used Siemens Scintimat 2 Scanner with a 3x2 inch Na(T1) crystal and 151-hole collimator in our study. 10 mci of Technetium 99 M was injected intravenously and obtained both lateral, anterior and posterior view in 80 cases of brain lesion from Mar. 75 to Sept. 76. The scans were classified as positive, negative and suspicious. The overall detection rate in '40 cases of brain tumors was 60%, especially high uptake in mengioma, malignant pituitary tumor, astrocytoma, metastatic brain tumor and acoustic neuroma. But in nontumorous diseases of the brain including CVA, head injury and hydrocephalus the uptake rate was a little value.

        Nanoscale Dry Etching of Germanium by Using Inductively Coupled CF4 Plasma

        The nanoscale dry etching of germanium was investigated by using inductively coupled CF4 plasma and electron-beam lithography. The optimal dose of PMMA as E-beam lithography resist was ~200 mC/cm2. When ICP Power was 200W, CF4 gas flow rate was 40 sccm, and process pressure was 20 mTorr, it had a smooth surface and good etch rate. The etching selectivity of Ge wafer to PMMA resist was as low as ~1.5. Various sub-100 nm dry-etching patterns have been obtained. SEM pictures showed good profile qualities with a smooth etching sidewall and ultrasmall etching features.

        흰쥐에서 저주파소음에 의한 스트레스 반응

        Exposure to low frequency noise(LFN) can lead to vibroacoustic diseases(VADs), which include a systemic disease with lesions in a broad spectrum of organs and a psychiatric condition. It is known that VAD is an established risk factor for the development of many psychological conditions in humans and rodents, including major depression and anxiety disorder. The present study investigated the effects of LFN on neuronal stress responses in the rat brain. The neuronal expression of the proto-oncogene c-fos in the paraventricular nucleus(PVN) of the hypothalamus and tyrosine hydroxylase(TH) in the LC was observed. The immunocytochemical detection of the Fos protein and TH has been used as a marker of neuronal activation in response to stress. In addition, corticosterone concentration was evaluated by using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) The LFN groups were exposed to 32.5Hz and 125Hz of noise(4hr/day for 2days). The numbers of c-fos and TH-immunoreactive cells in the PVN and LC were significantly increased in the LFN groups(32.5Hz and 125Hz) compared to the normal group. Corticosterone concentration in plasma was also increased in LFN groups. The present results demonstrated that exposure with LFN produced a pronounced increase in expression of c-Fos and TH in stress-relevant brain areas. These results suggest that the neural characteristics involved in LFN are similar to those activated by typical processive stressors. These results also suggest that the central and peripheral activations by LFN may be related to LFN-related negative behavioral dysfunctions such as VADs.

        Impact of Hospital Volume of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) on In-Hospital Outcomes in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction: Based on the 2014 Cohort of the Korean Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (K-PCI) Registry

        Background and Objectives: The relationship between the hospital percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) volumes and the in-hospital clinical outcomes of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains the subject of debate. This study aimed to determine whether the in-hospital clinical outcomes of patients with AMI in Korea are significantly associated with hospital PCI volumes. Methods: We selected and analyzed 17,121 cases of AMI, that is, 8,839 cases of non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and 8,282 cases of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, enrolled in the 2014 Korean percutaneous coronary intervention (K-PCI) registry. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to hospital annual PCI volume, that is, to a high-volume group (≥400/year) or a low-volume group (<400/year). Major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs) were defined as composites of death, cardiac death, non-fatal myocardial infarction (MI), stent thrombosis, stroke, and need for urgent PCI during index admission after PCI. Results: Rates of MACCE and non-fatal MI were higher in the low-volume group than in the high-volume group (MACCE: 10.9% vs. 8.6%, p=0.001; non-fatal MI: 4.8% vs. 2.6%, p=0.001, respectively). Multivariate regression analysis showed PCI volume did not independently predict MACCE. Conclusions: Hospital PCI volume was not found to be an independent predictor of in-hospital clinical outcomes in patients with AMI included in the 2014 K-PCI registry.

        본 논문에서는 시계열 데이타베이스에서 임의 계수의 이동평균 변환을 지원하는 서브시퀀스 매칭 알고리즘을 제안한다. 응용 분야와 분석하려고 하는 시계열 데이타의 특성에 따라 잡음의 영향을 줄이는 정도와 경향을 파악하는 주기가 달라지므로 이동평균 계수의 선택도 달라진다. 본 논문에서는 하나의 이동평균 계수에 대해서 생성한 인덱스만을 이용하여 인덱스가 생성되어 있지 않은 계수에 대해서도 탐색을 수행하는 방법을 제안한다. 이때, 제안된 탐색 기법이 질의 결과로 반환되어야 할 서브시퀀스를 모두 찾아내지 못하는 착오 기각이 발생하지 않음을 증명한다. 실험 결과, 모든 이동평균 계수에 대해 인덱스가 생성되어 있는 경우와 비교하여 탐색 성능의 저하는 42%이내였으며, 제안된 알고리즘의 탐색 성능이 순차 검색에 비하여 최대 2.7배 우수하였다.
