This paper describes control applications in automobiles. Many aspects of automotive applications of advanced control methods, which include suspension systems, stability control systems, engines, hybrid vehicle control systems, electric vehicle controls systems, advanced driver assistance systems and automated driving control systems, are reviewed. The control methods used in each area are briefly reviewed to help readers understand the applicability and effectiveness of these methods. In addition, some new trends in the research of automotive applications are described.

연구목적: 폐경 전 중년여성에서 대사증후군의 임상적 지표와 골밀도와의 연관성에 대해 조사하고자 하였다. 연구재료 및 방법: 308명의 여성 중 정상대조군은 268명, 대사증후군 환자는 40명이었다. 신체계측 (키, 체중, 체질량지 수, 허리둘레 등) 및 혈청 지질검사, 공복혈당, 혈압 등의 자료를 수집하여 골밀도와 함께 분석하였다. 결 과: 연구대상에서 정상군과 대사증후군 환자군 간의 대퇴골 경부 및 요추 골밀도의 유의한 차이는 관찰되지 않았다. 반면, 대퇴골경부 골밀도는 체질량지수 (r=0.209, P<0.001) 및 허리둘레 (r=0.142, P=0.012)와 양적 상관성을 보였으며, 요추 골밀도도 역시 체질량지수 (r=0.176, P=0.002) 및 허리둘레 (r=0.113, P=0.048)와 유의한 연관성이 있음을 관찰하였다. 결론: 폐경 전 여성에서 체지방의 증가와 복부비만화는 골밀도의 증가와 연관성을 보였으며, 대사증후군의 다른 임상적 지표들은 유의한 관계가 없었다. 폐경 전 대사증후군에 이환된 여성에서 다양한 임상적 특성들이 골밀도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대해 장기적 추적관찰을 통한 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다. Objectives: To determine the relationship between metabolic syndrome (MS) and bone mineral density (BMD) in middle-aged women. Methods: Three hundred eight premenopausal women were included in this study, including 268 women without MS and 40 women confirmed to have MS according to the National Cholesterol Education Program-Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATP III) criteria. Clinical markers including anthropometric parameters, the serum lipid profile, and glucose level were determined and analyzed with the BMD at the lumbar spine and femoral neck. Results: There was no significant difference in femoral neck or lumbar BMD between the controls and women with MS. In correlation tests, the body mass index (BMI) showed a significant association with the femoral (r=0.209, P<0.001) and lumbar BMD (r=0.176, P=0.002). In addition, the waist circumference (WC) was also significantly correlated with the femoral (r=0.142, P=0.012) and lumbar BMD (r=0.113, P=0.048). Conclusion: The BMI and WC showed a significant positive association with the femoral and lumbar spine BMD in premenopausal women. Further studies with a large population will be needed to elucidate the combined effect of MS on BMD in middle-aged women. (J Korean Soc Menopause 2010;16:142-147)

Recovery of nitrogen heterocyclic compounds (NHC) contained in coal tar oil fraction was investigated by cocurrent five stages equilibrium extraction. The aqueous solution of formamide was used as a solvent. NHC (particularly, indole) was recovered as much as 99% by cocurrent four stages equilibrium extraction. Maximum selectivity of indole based on 2-methylnaphthalene (2MN) obtained through cocurrent three stages equilibrium extraction was 54. The sequence of the distribution coefficient and selectivity based on 2MN for each component of NHC was indole>iso-quinoline≥quinoline>quinaldine. Extraction method using the aqueous solution of formamide as a solvent was estimated superior separation method in terms of the separation performances for NHC (particularly, indole) contained in coal tar. oil fraction.
