The continuing shrinkage of the feature sizes in microelectronics requests the use of nanolithographic technology that causes the exponential increase of cost in building the fabrication facility. Molecules can be synthesized in precisely controlled way to have nano-structures in large quantities, utilizing molecules as electronic components in the nanoelectronic circuitry may be one promising alternative of manufacturing high density chips in more affordable prices. The molecular scale electronics research has shown that molecules can be good conductors and molecular switch can be used succesfully to modulate the flow of electrons. Some of the recent progresses in molecular scale electronics are reviewed and the use of modified gold nanoparticles to assemble the devices is introduced. 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
The Mechanism of Cellular Injury in Chronic Hepatitis B

The degree of hepatic injury was moderately increased, and all patients except one case had stage 4 of fibrosis, no case had HBV-DNA in their serum. Anti-HBe was found in 4 cases among 7 cases of Type Ⅳ Expression. Only one case had mutation in basal core promoter region. In conclusion, the patterns of HBcAg expression in the hepatocytes seems to be a useful method to determine chlinicopathologic phase in patient with chronic hepatitis B.

In the contact problems, many nonmatching nodes may be generated along with contact interfaces, and this nonmatching mesh leads to poor convergence of solution. Furthermore a contact analysis with large deformation encounters various convergence problems. We illustrate that the use of the variable-node elements transforms such a nonmatching mesh to a matching mesh. So greatly improved is the solution convergence in FE analysis of contact mechanics. Our numerical examples show that the variable-node elements enable one to obtain an accurate and effective solution for a contact problem involving elastoplastic deformations.

The variable-node elements enable us to overcome the difficulties of dealing with problems which have nonmatching meshes. In the contact problems, there are many nonmatching nodes along with contact interfaces. These problems can be solved easily using variable-node elements. The contact formulation with the variable-node elements leads to an accurate and effective solution procedure. Therefore, the patch test is passed without any additional treatment. In this work, it is shown that contact analysis is efficiently conducted with the aid of variable-node finite elements in consideration of finite deformations.
