        The objective of this study was to examine two new parameters by which we could screen people with malignant vocal folds. The new parameters were the difference sums and Pearson correlation coefficients between adjacent pairs of intensity level matrices of narrow-band spectra. Audio files from the Korean Disordered Speech Database were analyzed by Praat, a speech analysis softWare, to obtain matrices of 400 intensity levels at 16 time points of each sustained vowel spectra. We limited our study to 12 normal subjects and 20 patients with malignant vocal folds who recorded at least three Korean vowels at a sound-proofed booth in Busan National University Hospital. Results indicated that the average coefficients of the abnormal subjects were much lower than those of the normal subjects while the average difference sums of the patients were much higher than those of the normal ones. Also, we found that the degree of the malignancy of the vocal folds was related to the coefficients and sums. However, some subjects at the initial stages of cancerous vocal folds yielded almost comparable coefficients and difference sums to those of the normal speakers. Further studies on larger databases will be desirable to set certain criteria or threshold levels for screening people with vocal fold diseases.

        This paper tries to investigate the methods for the industrial cooperation between Busan Metropolitan City and Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam Both cities set up sisterhood relationship in 1995. After that, though they have had formal and informal interchanges, industrial cooperation has been relatively insignificant. It is very much expected to promote mutual interests through the economic cooperation, because, at this age of globalization, international economic cooperations between firms, regions, or even countries are emerging as foremost important means to survive. Thus, this paper examines the possibility of industrial interchange and cooperation between the two cities. Although the industrial structures and development levels of both cities are considerably different, depending on the differing stages of development of Korea and Vietnam, they overlap in some industrial sectors. They are textile-and-garment and footwear sector, which are both Busan' old industries and Ho's leading industries. Another cooperation possibility is found in the IT sector which is promoted as future leading industry in both cities. Because Vietnam doesn't have enough experiences in economic development, Busan cannot expect immediate gains from cooperation projects. Busan's government and economic agents are needed to try to activate cultural exchange of various dimensions including human and physical ones and to promote long-term mutual benefits.

      • 금어초(Antirrhinum majus L.)에 있어서 전처리 및 보존용액이 절화수명에 미치는 영향

        This study was carried out to investigate the effects of pretreatment and preservative solutions on vaselife in cut snapdragon 'Manwall' Cut snapdragon was pretreated with sucrose and certain inorganic salts like KCl, KNO₃ NH₄NO₃ at 0.1M for l2hours. Another cut snapdragon held preservative solutions with sucrose at 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4M, and metal compounds like 0.5mM aluminum sulfate, cobalt sulfate, nikel chloride and 0.25mM silver thiosulfate(STS) including 0.1M sucrose. Solution uptake, ion leakage(%) and vaselife were measured. In pretreatments for 12hrs, solution uptake was the greatest in 0.1M KCl, while ion leakage in 0.1M NH₄NO₃. 0.1M sucrose was effective for extending vaselife. In preservative solutions, solution uptake was the highest at 0.1M sucrose with 0.5mM aluminum sulfate compared to the others Ion leakage of floret was the lowest at 0.1M sucrose. 0.4M sucrose was a good preservative solutions for vaselife.

        This study was carried out to investigate the effect of pulsing and preservatives on the postharvest quality in Cut Snapdragon 'Manwall'. Cut Snapdragon was pretreated for 12 hrs in several inorganic salts like KCI, KNO₃at 0.1M for 12 hours. Fresh weight, solution uptake, flower opening, floret coloration and ion leakage were measured. In pulse treatments for 12 hrs with sucrose and several inorganic compounds, fresh weight and ion leakage was the greatest in sucrose at 0.1M, while solution uptake and floret color in KCI at 0.1M. Pulsing with 0.1M KCI resulted in greatest floret opening, but the lowest floret abscissed.

        골분진과 섬유소 접합물을 이용한 두안면부 골결손의 치료

        In the field of plastic surgery, various forms of craniofacial bone defects may be encountered under such conditions as trauma, congenieal defect, and postoperative condition. Until now, autogenous bone graft, processed homograft or heterograft, and alloplastic implants have been used for the reconstruction of those defecrs. Although each method has its own pros and cons, autogenous bone graft is most widely used because of its high survival rate, low postoperative complication rate, and longterm stability, Recently, the calvarium has become the favorite source of autogenous bone graft since it has many advantages. However, it is not easy to fabricate bone graft to fit in the defect accurately, paricularly for cystic or irregularly shaped depressions of craniofacial bone defects. In 1970, Shehadi reported the use of calvarial bone dust in reconstruction of cranial defects. Bone dust is harvested easily and in reasonably sufficient amount, but has not been used widely due to problems in fixation and survival rate. In our previous study, authors experimentally proved that a miture of fibrin sealant and autogenous bone dust plays an effective role to form a new bone in bone healing process. Fibrin controls bleeding, serves as a surface for adherence and degranulation of platelets, and accelerates would healing in general. In the healing process of bone grafting, fibrin trellis is known to contribute to osteoconduction and osteoinduction by supplying moving channels for undifferentiated mesechymal cells and bone morphogenic protein. Clinically, authors successfully treated 7 cases of craniofacial bony defects using bone dust and fibrin sealant and concluded as follows ; 1. Bone dust is easy to harvest in sufficient amount and is useful in reconstruction of various forms of bony defects. 2. Bone dust can be easily fixed when mixed with fibrin sealant. 3. Fibrin sealant stimulates bone union of bone dust graft. 4. Bone dust can also be harvested simultaneously when harvesting calvarial bone graft and be used in various craniofacial reconstruction as mixture with fibrin sealant.

      • 신경병증성 통증 모델쥐 뒤뿌리신경절의 Nitric Oxide Synthase 아형 및 NADPH-diaphorase 발현에 관한 연구

        Injury to peripheral nerve somtimes lead to neuropathic pain. Nitric oxide(NO) is increased in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG) of neuropathic pain models, and L-NAME, a nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor, reduces neuropathic pain. However, it is not known that underlying mechanism of NO involvement in development and maintanence of neuropathic pain. It was found that there were three NOS isoforms-nNOS, eNOS, and iNOS. It is also necessary to investigate NOS isoforms in neuropathic pain. The aim of this study is to investigate NOS isoforms and NADPH-diaphorase expressions and underlying mechanism of NO involvement in neuropathic pain. The 5^th lambar (L5) DRG were obtaind after tight ligation of L5 an L6 spinal nerves for 7 days. Toluidine blue stain, immunohistochemistry for nNOS, eNOS, and iNOS, and NADPH-diaphorase histochemistry were performed. All specimens were observed under light microscope. nNOS expression was increased significantly in the cytoplasm of the DRG of ligated side at 7 day post-ligation (7D PL). eNOS expression was also increased in the blood vessel, a few neurons or satellite cells, and cell membrane of Schwann cells in the DRG of ligated side at 7D PL. iNOS expression was increased in a few blood vessels and cytoplasm of small neurons in the DRG of ligated side at 7D PL. NADPH-diaphorase expression was increased significantly in the neurons of the DRG of ligate side at 7D PL, but NADPH-diaphorase expressions were weak or absent in the blood vessel and Schwann cell in the contralateral DRG and the DRG of ligated side at 7D PL. It is suggested that NOS isoforms may be closely related to development and mantanence of neuropathic pain in order of nNOS>eNOS>iNOS.
