Destination Brand Equity: A Perspective of Generation Z on A World Heritage Site in Indonesia

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among the components of brand equity and to examine the effects of these components on the overall customer-based brand equity from the perspective of the Generation Z. This study is applied in the case of Borobudur World Heritage Destination, which is in Indonesia. A survey questionnaire has been collected through purposive sampling from 167 Generation Z who have visited Borobudur World Heritage Destination. The research hypotheses were supported by the empirical test using a Structural Equation Model with AMOS. The result concludes that destination brand awareness has significant, positive effects on destination brand image and perception of destination quality; destination brand image has positive influences on perception of destination quality and destination brand loyalty; perception of destination quality has significant, positive impacts on destination brand loyalty. Except for destination brand image and destination brand awareness, the perception of destination quality and destination brand loyalty have positive and direct impacts on overall destination brand equity. In sum, overall customer-based brand equity of a world heritage destination in the context of a developing economy is directly influenced by only two components of brand equity, namely, the perception of destination quality and destination brand loyalty.
A Review of Technologies to Prolong the Shelf Life of Fresh Tropical Fruits in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia, a typical tropical region, plays an important role in exporting a variety of fruits worldwide. The market for fresh fruits has been growing consistently, and this is a chance for Southeast Asian countries to increase their national income. However, export of tropical fruits has limitations such as a short shelf life and difficulty in maintaining the quality because of tropical climate conditions and undeveloped postharvest technologies in Southeast Asia. An important objective for developing postharvest technologies is to extend the shelf life of fresh fruits without deterioration in fruit quality. Therefore, it is essential to determine factors that affect the shelf life of fruits. The shelf life of tropical fruits is significantly dependent on the inherent properties of the fruits, extrinsic conditions, postharvest treatment, and microbial contamination. Recently, Southeast Asian countries have supported agricultural research groups for developing new postharvest technologies and minimizing postharvest losses and maintaining export fruit quality so that the total sales of tropical fruit farms can increase. This review introduces how the primary factors for extending the shelf life of tropical fruits can be determined and discusses the development of postharvest technologies for tropical fruits in Southeast Asian countries.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>Ultraviolet (UV) radiation plays important roles in various skin diseases including premature aging and cancer. UV has been shown to regulate the expressions of many genes including matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Gasdermin C (GSDMC) belongs to Gasdermin family and is known to be expressed in the epithelial cells of many tissues including the skin. However, the functions of GSDMC remain poorly understood.</P> <P><B>Objective</B></P> <P>We aimed to investigate the role of GSDMC in UV-induced MMP-1, MMP-3, and MMP-9 expressions in human skin keratinocytes.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>Primary human skin keratinocytes and an immortalized human skin keratinocyte cell line (HaCaT cells) were irradiated with UV. Knockdown and overexpression of GSDMC were performed to study the effect of GSDMC. The mRNA and protein levels were analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blotting, respectively.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>We found that GSDMC expression is increased by UV irradiation in human skin keratinocytes. Further studies showed that GSDMC expression is increased at relatively late time points after UV irradiation and that this GSDMC induction plays important roles in the expressions of MMP-1, but not of MMP-3 and MMP-9, and the activations of ERK and JNK induced by UV. In addition, we found that overexpression of GSDMC increases the MMP-1 expression and the activities of ERK and JNK and that GSDMC-induced MMP-1 expression is suppressed by inhibition of ERK or JNK activities.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>Our results suggest that GSDMC is increased by UV radiation and contributes to UV-induced MMP-1 expression through the activation of ERK and JNK pathways.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Expression of GSDMC is increased by UV irradiation in human skin keratinocytes. </LI> <LI> Increase of GSDMC by UV contributes to the expression of MMP-1 and the activation of ERK and JNK induced by UV. </LI> <LI> GSDMC plays an important role in UV-induced MMP-1 expression through the activation of ERK and JNK pathways in human skin keratinocytes. </LI> </UL> </P>

<P>CONCLUSIONSThe results demonstrated that the FT-NIR spectral analysis with the PLS-DA method that uses all variables or the selected variables showed good performance based on the high value of prediction accuracy for soybean viability with an accuracy close to 100%. Hence, FT-NIR techniques with a chemometric analysis have the potential for rapidly measuring soybean seed viability. (c) 2017 Society of Chemical Industry</P>

This study aims to analyze the effect of transformational leadership (TL), procedural justice (PJ), and training (T) on employee performance (EP) mediated by self-efficacy (SE). The object of this research is Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah (RSUD) M.Th. Djaman, a hospital in Sanggau Regency, while the subjects are the institution's staff. Data collection search uses purposive sampling with a total of 120 samples. Data are obtained through questionnaires distributed directly to respondents using the Google Form application. Data analysis techniques used in this study include standard error of mean (SEM) with AMOS software version 24.00. Methods use to test validity and reliability of data include Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), Construct Reliability (CR) and VE. The results of the analysis show that only training has a significant effect on self-efficacy, and self-efficacy has a significant effect on employee performance. Also, self-efficacy is proven to mediate the role of training on employee performance; the other hypotheses are not significant. Training is the most prominent positive factor affecting self-efficacy and self-efficacy has a significant effect on employee performance at RSUD M.Th. Djaman. The results of this study can be used as a reference by management in determining what policy priorities should take precedence.

This study evaluated the effects of milk fermented with Pediococcus acidilactici strain BE and Pediococcus pentosaceus strain M103 on diabetes in rats (Rattus norvegicus). The bacteria were separately used as starter cultures for milk fermentation, and the products were then fed to diabetic rats for 15 days. Blood glucose levels, immunohistochemical and histological indicators, lipid profiles, and total lactic acid bacterium counts were evaluated before and after treatment. The administration of milk fermented with P. acidilactici strain BE reduced blood glucose levels from 410.27±51.60 to 304.07±9.88 mg/dL (p<0.05), similar to the effects of metformin (from 382.30±13.39 mg/dL to 253.33±40.66 mg/dL, p<0.05). Increased insulin production was observed in diabetic rats fed milk fermented with P. acidilactici strain BE concomitant with an increased number and percentage area of immunoreactive beta-cells. The structure of insulin-producing beta-cells was improved in diabetic rats fed milk fermented with P. acidilactici strain BE or metformin (insulin receptor substrate scores of 5.33±0.94 and 3.5±0.5, respectively). This suggests that the administration of milk fermented with P. acidilactici BE potentially reduces blood glucose levels and improves pancreatic betacell function in diabetic rats.
Ceramic composites derived from polysilazane with the addition of silicon carbide

Ceramic composites from the polysilazane with the addition of silicon carbide (SiC) was successfully sintered by a hot pressingfurnace at 1,600-1,800 ºC for 1 h under the applied pressure of 20 MPa in a nitrogen atmosphere. The addition of SiC did notinfluence the densification of sintered polysilazane. However, the phases generated during sintering were affected by theaddition of SiC, resulting in the multi-phases of sintered polysilazane/SiC composite. The formation of SiC, Si3N4, Si2N2O, andSiO2 phases were observed in the sintered polysilazane/SiC composite. The highest hardness of sintered polysilazane wasobtained with the addition of SiC sinter at 1,700 ºC, i.e., 24.3 ± 1.1 GPa, and decreased to 21.8 ± 0.7 GPa at 1,800 ºC. Thisis due to the sintered polysilazane/SiC composite at 1,700 ºC possess fine microstructure compared to 1,800 ºC. Meanwhile,the sintered polysilazane experienced significant grain growth at 1,700 ºC, thus the hardness of this sample was lower thansintered polysilazane/SiC composite.
