As the use of RSA based on chinese remainder theorem(CRT-RSA) is being generalized, the security of CRT-RSA has been important. Since Bellcore researchers introduced the fault attacks on CRT-RSA, various countermeasures have been proposed. In 1999, Shamir firstly proposed a countermeasure using checking procedure. After Shamir's countermeasure was introduced, various countermeasures based on checking procedure have been proposed. However, Shamir's countermeasure was known to be vulnerable to the modified operand attack by Joey et al. in 2001, and the checking procedure was known to be vulnerable to the modified opcode attack by Yen et al. in 2003. Yen et al. proposed a new countermeasure without checking procedure, but their countermeasure was known to be also vulnerable to the modified operand attack by Yen and Kim in 2007. In this paper, we point out that pre, but countermeasures were vulnerable to the modified operand attack or the modified opcode attack.

Human cytomegalovirus microRNA miR-US4-1 inhibits CD8+ T cell responses by targeting the aminopeptidase ERAP1

        Kim, Sungchul,Lee, Sanghyun,Shin, Jinwook,Kim, Youngkyun,Evnouchidou, Irini,Kim, Donghyun,Kim, Young-Kook,Kim, Young-Eui,Ahn, Jin-Hyun,Riddell, Stanley R,Stratikos, Efstratios,Kim, V Narry,Ahn, Kwangs Nature Publishing Group, a division of Macmillan P 2011 NATURE IMMUNOLOGY Vol.12 No.10

Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules present peptides on the cell surface to CD8+ T cells, which is critical for the killing of virus-infected or transformed cells. Precursors of MHC class I??presented peptides are trimmed to mature epitopes by the aminopeptidase ERAP1. The US2??US11 genomic region of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is dispensable for viral replication and encodes three microRNAs (miRNAs). We show here that HCMV miR-US4-1 specifically downregulated ERAP1 expression during viral infection. Accordingly, the trimming of HCMV-derived peptides was inhibited, which led to less susceptibility of infected cells to HCMV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). Our findings identify a previously unknown viral miRNA??based CTL-evasion mechanism that targets a key step in the MHC class I antigen-processing pathway.

Epigenetic Regulation of Chondrocyte Catabolism and Anabolism in Osteoarthritis

Kim, Hyeonkyeong,Kang, Donghyun,Cho, Yongsik,Kim, Jin-Hong Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology 2015 Molecules and cells Vol.38 No.8

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most prevalent forms of joint disorder, associated with a tremendous socioeconomic burden worldwide. Various non-genetic and lifestyle-related factors such as aging and obesity have been recognized as major risk factors for OA, underscoring the potential role for epigenetic regulation in the pathogenesis of the disease. OA-associated epigenetic aberrations have been noted at the level of DNA methylation and histone modification in chondrocytes. These epigenetic regulations are implicated in driving an imbalance between the expression of catabolic and anabolic factors, leading eventually to osteoarthritic cartilage destruction. Cellular senescence and metabolic abnormalities driven by OA-associated risk factors appear to accompany epigenetic drifts in chondrocytes. Notably, molecular events associated with metabolic disorders influence epigenetic regulation in chondrocytes, supporting the notion that OA is a metabolic disease. Here, we review accumulating evidence supporting a role for epigenetics in the regulation of cartilage homeostasis and OA pathogenesis.

Bipedal Walking and Impact Reduction Algorithm for a Robot with Pneumatically Driven Knees

        Donghyun Kim,Yun-Pyo Hong,Kyung-Soo Kim 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2021 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.19 No.12

We propose a bipedal walking and impact reduction algorithm for a bipedal robot with pneumatically driven knees. The proposed algorithm is meaningful in that unlike in the existing studies on fully pneumaticallydriven robots and their control, it can overcome the low control performance of pneumatic actuators while utilizing the high compliance of pneumatic actuators through the high control performance of other joints in robots that applypneumatic actuators only to the knee joint. Our algorithm takes advantage of whole-body control to overcome the low control performance of pneumatic systems and utilizes pneumatic compliance by simultaneously controllingthe force and stiffness of the pneumatic actuators. Since a pneumatic actuator outputs a force, a force and torque converter is added to the general whole-body control framework, and a torque limit is considered as a functionof the joint angle. In addition, a mechanism for selecting the stiffness of the knee is added. In particular, a force control method based on maintaining the minimum stiffness is applied to reduce the impact force when the groundconditions suddenly change. The pneumatics and the robot system were accurately modeled in a simulation, and the proposed algorithm was applied in the simulation to realize bipedal walking and to confirm the impact reductioneffect in the event of a sudden ground condition change.

Minimum Data-Latency-Bound <tex> $k$</tex>-Sink Placement Problem in Wireless Sensor Networks

        Donghyun Kim,Wei Wang,Sohaee, N.,Changcun Ma,Weili Wu,Wonjun Lee,Ding-Zhu Du IEEE 2011 IEEE/ACM transactions on networking Vol.19 No.5

<P>In this paper, we propose a new multiple-sink positioning problem in wireless sensor networks to best support real-time applications. We formally define this problem as the <I>k</I> -Sink Placement Problem (<I>k</I> -SPP) and prove that it is APX-complete. We show that an existing approximation algorithm for the well-known <I>k</I>-center problem is a constant factor approximation of <I>k</I> -SPP. Furthermore, we introduce a new greedy algorithm for <I>k</I>-SPP and prove its approximation ratio is very near to the best achievable, 2. Via simulations, we show our algorithm outperforms its competitor on average.</P>

      • Improving community street lighting using CPTED: A case study of three communities in Korea

Kim, Donghyun,Park, Songmi Elsevier 2017 Sustainable cities and society Vol.28 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This study proposes design alternatives for community street lighting by applying “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design” (CPTED) concepts to enhance natural surveillance and feelings of safety. We conducted simulations to analyze how these designs would improve three communities. To find ways to enhance community safety at night, we considered lighting standards and CPTED guidelines, using Relux Pro for a simulation analysis. We came up with design alternatives considering visibility and the facial recognition for street lighting; based on this, we proposed that more security lights be installed or existing lights be modified or oriented in a different direction. When we applied the proposed changes to the study areas, we found that our simulations would improve the “average horizontal illuminance” and the basic conditions for perceiving people. The study contributes alternatives for community street lighting based on CPTED, compares the alternatives to existing lighting using simulation software, and discusses the effects of these alternatives.</P>

      • Visual Comfort Enhancement for Stereoscopic Video Based on Binocular Fusion Characteristics

Donghyun Kim,Sunghwan Choi,Kwanghoon Sohn IEEE 2013 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON CIRCUITS AND SYSTEMS FOR VIDE Vol.23 No.3

<P>A well-known problem in stereoscopic videos is visual fatigue. However, conventional depth adjustment methods provide little guidance in deciding the amount of depth control or determining the condition for depth control. We propose a depth adjustment method based on binocular fusion characteristics, where the fusion time is used as the parameter for adjustment. Visual comfort enhancement is implemented with the horizontal image shift approach for depth adjustment. The speeded-up robust feature is used to estimate maximum disparity and disparity distribution, while a face detection algorithm is used to estimate the viewing distance with a single web camera. Binocular fusion characteristics are acquired in advance by measuring the time required for fusion under various conditions, including foreground disparity, background disparity, and focal distance for random-dot stereograms. Finally, a subjective evaluation is conducted in fixed and free-to-move viewing conditions, and the results show that comfortable videos were generated based on the proposed depth adjustment method.</P>

Efficient high-dimensional metamodeling strategy using selectively high-ordered kriging HDMR (SH-K-HDMR)

Donghyun Kim,이익진 대한기계학회 2021 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.35 No.11

Selectively high-ordered kriging high dimension model representation (SH-KHDMR) is proposed for efficient metamodeling of high-dimensional, expensive, blackbox (HEB) problems. SH-K-HDMR is a kind of cut HDMR, which selectively models high order interaction components. SH-K-HDMR starts with two groups of samples, which are for HDMR and model accuracy assessment, respectively. Variance of kriging prediction error is used for sequential sampling, and an interaction measureij H is suggested and used to choose high order interaction components of cut HDMR to be modeled. The group of samples for model accuracy assessment is also used for surrogate modeling at the end of the metamodeling process, to eliminate waste of samples. Performance of the SH-K-HDMR is compared to conventional metamodeling methods, namely full-dimension kriging and kriging-HDMR. The comparison study shows that SH-K-HDMR is superior when applied to high-dimensional and nonlinear engineering problems with strong interactions between variables.

      • A Study on Double Arcing Monitoring Method Using Voltage Data During Plasma Arc Cutting of STS304 Plate

        DongHyun Kim,SunIl Kim,Mookeun Song,JunHyun Kim,MinGyu Choi,DoYeong Mun,DaeWon Cho 한국방사성폐기물학회 2023 한국방사성폐기물학회 학술논문요약집 Vol.21 No.2

As the decommissioning of domestic nuclear power plants (Gori Unit 1 and Wolseong Unit 1) becomes more visible, many research projects are being conducted to safely and economically decommissioning of domestic nuclear power plants (NPPs). After permanent shutdown, decommissioning of NNPs proceeds through decontamination, cutting of main equipment, waste disposal and site restoration stages. And various technologies are applied at each stage. In particular, remote cutting of neutron induced structures (RV, RVI, etc.) is a technology used in developed countries in the cutting stage, and remote cutting has been evaluated as a core technology for minimizing workers’ radiation exposure. Generally, remote cutting technologies are divided into mechanical/thermal/electrical cutting. Among various thermal cutting technologies, plasma arc cutting (PAC) is more economical and easily to remote control than other cutting technologies, and is also effective in cutting STS304 plates. PAC is a thermal cutting technology that melts the base material at the cutting area with a plasma arc heat source and removes melted material by blowing it out with cutting gas. The cutting quality depends on the stand-off distance and power (current), material thickness, cutting speed, etc., while double arcing will occur if the cutting conditions are not suitable. A monitoring system that can confirm double arcing during remote cutting is necessary because double arcing can reduce cutting quality, increase secondary waste (increase kerf and aerosol), and cause non-cutting. In this study, we used an ultrahigh-speed camera equipped with a band-pass filter to capture clear arc shapes, and measured voltage waveforms with a data acquisition system. We studied a monitoring method that can confirm the occurrence of double arcing by synchronizing the obtained arc shape and voltage waveform, and the effects of double arcing on the STS304 plates. The results of this study are expected to be helpful in the development of the remote cutting process using plasma arc cutting when decommissioning of domestic NPPs.
