Background : Cord blood(CB), which has no HLA restriction, is an alternative to bone marrow for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The use of cord blood, however, is limited by the number of progenitor/stem cells necessary to reconstitute the older child or adult. Therefore, ex vivo expansion of CB could have tremendous impact on diverse clinical settings. We studied the ex vivo expansion of isolated population of CD34_(+) cells from cryopreserved CB cells. Methods : CD34 cells were isolated from cryopreserved CB mononuclear cells. Purified cells were cultured with various combinations of hematopoietic growth factors including erythropoietin(EPO), stem cell factor(SCF), granulocyte-colony-stimulating factor(G-CSF), gra-nulocyte, macrophage-colony-stimulating factor(GM-CSF), interleukin-1β(IL-1β), 1L-3, and IL-6. After 7, 10 or 14 days of culture, the fold increases of colony-forming unit- granu-locyte, macrophage(CFU-GM), burst-forming unit-erythroid(BFU-E), colony-forming unit-mix (CFU-Mix), and high proliferative potential colony-forming cell(HPP-CFC) were evaluated. Results : Ten-day culture with the combination of EPO, SCF, G-CSF, IL-1β, and IL-3 resulted in a median of 60-fold increase of CFU-GM, which was greater than those with the combinations of less than 5 growth factors. The addition of IL-6 or GM-CSF to this combination did not enhance CFU-GM expansion. Ten-day culture was significantly superior to 7-day culture for CFU-GM expansion. Prolongation of culture to 14 days, however, revealed decreased expansion of CFU-GM compared to 10 days. BFU-E and CFU-Mix were expanded to 2~5 folds in 7-day culture with the combination of EPO, SCF, and G-CSF. Further expansion was not achieved in 10-day culture and colonies disappeared in 14-day culture. HPP-CFC was expanded to a median of 7.5 folds in 7-day culture with the combination of EPO, SCF, G-CSF, IL-1β, IL-3, and IL-6. Neither 10-day or 14 day-culture enhanced expansion of HPP-CFU. Conclusion : Cryopreserved cord blood cells maintain ex vivo expansion potential. In our system, 10-day culture with the combination consisting of EPO, SCF, G-CSF, IL-1β, and IL-3 seems to be adequate for hematopoietic progenitor/stem cell expansion from cryopreserved cord blood cells.

Spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage due to hemophilia A with impaired coagulopathy is very rare. Spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage has been recorded as having originated from many retroperitoneal organs and blood vessels, and it may be due to local and/or systemic factors. In the majority of the patients, kidney and adrenal gland were the major site of hemorrhage. The systemic causes of spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage are anticoagulation therapy and chronic hemodialysis. During the course of these treatments, hemorrhagic complications may occur at many site, including the retroperitoneal space. Blood dyscrasias including leukemia, polycythemia, sickle cell trait and hemophilia have been reported associated with spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage. 태권도 사범의 리더십 유형이 초등학생들의 학습태도와 수련만족도에 미치는 영향

This study was designed to categorize the leadership of Taekwondo master and analyzed the effects of Taekwondo master`s leadership type on learning attitude and discipline satisfaction of elementary school student and presented useful data to instruct for elementary school student and presented useful data to instruct for elementary school student. The difference of children`s recognized leadership type of Taekwondo master, elementary school student`s learning attitude and discipline satisfaction on the bases of demography parameter(grade, sex, motive of discipline, purpose of discipline, and times per week of discipline) were also analyzed. The subjects of this study were 110 male and 110 female elementary student who residents at the Choong nam and Chung book region. They also engaged on the Taekwondo gym over 3 months. The research methods to verify over mentioned purpose are Leadership Scale for Sports(LSS) which was suggested by Chelladurai & Saleh(1980), Learning Attitude Scale-12 questionaire base on Draper(1987) research and 6 from Kleman(1988)`s research-and revised Kim`s Discipline Satisfaction Questinaire. The results of this study was as follows. First, the results of the difference of recognized leadership type between demographic parameters shows that there were significant difference between sex and grade on dictator leadership type and also there were difference between dan on discipline and order leadership type. The Democratic leadership type shows significantly diffference in motive of participation and purpose of discipline. Second the results of the difference of learning attitude and discipline satisfaction between demographic parameters shows that the learning attitude shows significant difference between grade, dan, and times per week of discipline, motive of discipline. The satisfaction of discipline shows significant difference in dan, discipline year, motive of discipline. Third, the leadership type which influence on learning attitude and discipline satisfaction were learning dictator leadership type and democratic, dictator, social support behavior, optimal feedback leadership type respectively.

이원화, 다계화, 네트워크 구축전략 : 일본의 대아시아 직접투자전략

본 연구는 1985년 이후 엔고와 더불어 급증한 일본의 대아시아 직접투자를 기업전략적인 차원에서「이원화전략」,「다계화전략」,「네트워크 구축전략」의 관점에서 설명하고자 한다. 여기서 이원화 전략이란 기술전파를 막기 위해 첨단기술을 요하는 고부가가치 제품은 국내에서 생산하고, 노출가능한 기술을 사용하여 생산하는 중저가 제품은 해외에서 생산함으로써 후발개도국들의 추격을 따돌리는 전략을 의미한다. 한편 다계화전략이란 투자국의 경제 발전에 따라 일본기업의 생산입지를 단계적으로 변화시키는 전략이다. 마지막으로 네트워크를 구축전략이란 일본기업이 아시아 투자가 개별적으로 이루어 지지 않고, 총체적인 경쟁우위를 향상시키기 위해 기존 해외 네트워크의 연장선 하에서 이루어진다는 것이다. 이러한 일본기업의 아시아 해외투자전략에 대응해서 전통적으로 일본으로부터 기술을 수입해 온 한국기업이 일본기업을 추격하기 위해서는「전문화전략」,「투자지역 선도전략」및「보완적 네트워크 구축전략」을 채택해야 할 것이다. 한편 한국과 같은 선발개도국을 모델로 하여 경제개발을 추구하고 있는 다른 아시아국가들 역시 본 논문을 통해 일본기업들의 전략적 의도를 파악하고, 이에 대응하기 위해「자체능력 개발전략」및「네트워크 연결전략」을 채택할 필요가 있다.

Transparent Urethane-Siloxane Hybrid Materials for Flexible Cover Windows with Ceramic-Like Strength, yet Polymer-Like Modulus

<P>Any transition toward an era of flexible electronics will have to overcome the mechanical limitations of materials. Specifically, the attainment of both strength and flexibility, which are generally mutually exclusive, is required including glass-like wear resistance, plastic-like compliance, and a high level of strain. Here, we fabricate a urethane-methacrylate-siloxane hybrid (UMSH) material. It is found that UMSH, with molecule-level hybridization of urethane linkage and methacrylate-siloxane conetworks, demonstrates ceramic-like high strength (574 MPa), yet polymer-like low modulus (8.42 GPa), and even high strain (6.3%) at fracture with excellent optical transparency. This combination of high strength, flexibility, and optical transparency indicates that this is a suitable material for glass substitution and can be used as a transparent flexible cover window for foldable display.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Synthesis and characterization of new blue light emitting iridium complexes containing a trimethylsilyl group

<P>New blue iridium complexes with a trimethylsilyl group as a bulky electron donating group, Ir(F<SUB>2</SUB>-<I>p</I>-trimethylsilyl)<SUB>2</SUB>(fptp) and Ir(F<SUB>2</SUB>-<I>m</I>-trimethylsilyl)<SUB>2</SUB>(fptp), were synthesized <I>via</I>μ-chloro-bridged dimer and perfluoropropylated triazole-based ancillary ligands and then characterized using various spectroscopic studies. Both Ir(F<SUB>2</SUB>-<I>p</I>-trimethylsilyl)<SUB>2</SUB>(fptp) and Ir(F<SUB>2</SUB>-<I>m</I>-trimethylsilyl)<SUB>2</SUB>(fptp) exhibited high photoluminescence quantum efficiencies of 75 ± 5% and 76 ± 5% in films, respectively. The DFT calculation demonstrated that the new blue iridium complexes have a wide bandgap compared with FIrpic and the Ir(F<SUB>2</SUB>-<I>p</I>-trimethylsilyl)<SUB>2</SUB>(fptp) with a trimethylsilyl group in the para position has a slightly deeper HOMO level than that of the Ir(F<SUB>2</SUB>-<I>p</I>-trimethylsilyl)<SUB>2</SUB>(fptp) with a trimethylsilyl group in the meta position. The UV-vis absorption and photoluminescent (PL) spectra of the complexes were blue shifted compared with those of FIrpic. The Effect of Tegoprazan on the Treatment of Endoscopic Resection-Induced Artificial Ulcers: A Multicenter, Randomized, Active-Controlled Study

Background/Aims: Tegoprazan is a novel potassium-competitive acid blocker that has beneficial effects on acid-related disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux and peptic ulcer diseases. This study aimed to validate the effect of tegoprazan on endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD)-induced artificial ulcers. Methods: Patients from 16 centers in Korea who underwent ESD for gastric neoplasia were enrolled. After ESD, pantoprazole was administered intravenously for 48 hours. The patients were randomly allocated to either the tegoprazan or esomeprazole group. Tegoprazan 50 mg or esomeprazole 40 mg were administered for 4 weeks, after which gastroscopic evaluation was performed. If the artificial ulcer had not healed, the same dose of tegoprazan or esomeprazole was administered for an additional 4 weeks, and a gastroscopic evaluation was performed. Results: One hundred sixty patients were enrolled in this study. The healing rates of artificial ulcers at 4 weeks were 30.3% (23/76) and 22.1% (15/68) in the tegoprazan and esomeprazole groups, respectively (p=0.006). At 8 weeks after ESD, the cumulative ulcer healing rates were 73.7% (56/76) and 77.9% (53/68) in the tegoprazan and esomeprazole groups, respectively (p=0.210). Delayed bleeding occurred in two patients in the tegoprazan group (2.6%) and in one patient in the esomeprazole group (1.5%). Other adverse events were negligible in both groups. Conclusions: Tegoprazan showed similar effects on post-ESD artificial ulcer healing in comparison with esomeprazole.

Basal cell carcinoma(BCC) is a common skin cancer arising from the basal layer of epidermis and its appendages. BCC is more common in elderly individuals but is becoming increasingly frequent in people younger than 50 years of age. Although the association of BCC with sun exposure is well known, it can arise on areas unexposed to sunlight such as perianal, groin and genital region. BCC in the groin can recur following simple excision, and metastases have been reported. A 26-year-old man presented with asymptomatic brownish mass over the left side of groin for the last 2 year. Two years ago, the lesion was removed with a CO₂ laser, but recurred at the same site. Patient denied history of immunosuppression, exposure to radiation or arsenic and family history of skin cancers. Excisional biopsy revealed basal cell carcinoma. There was no evidence of enlarged lymph nodes or metastasis on abdomen and pelvis CT which performed for staging work up. After excision, the lesion was completely removed and there was no evidence of malignancy in a biopsy performed one year later. Nodular lesions in the unexposed area are easy to overlook the possibility of BCC, especially in young patients. So we report an unusual case of BCC which occurred in unexposed area and clinicians should be aware of possibility of BCC.

Tumid lupus erythematosus(TLE) is a rare variants of cutaneous lupus erythematosus(CLE). Tumid means “swollen”, ”edematous” condition, and its skin lesions are characterized by edematous, urticaria like annular papules and plaques on sun exposed area. However, it may show various clinical features. Less common manifestations of TLE include a blaschkolinear distribution, periorbital edema. The age-of-onset for TLE is often around 30 to 40 years of age and TLE in infancy and childhood is rare. The diagnosis of TLE is established based upon clinical manifestations and histopathologic findings, such as periadnexal lymphocytic infiltration and interstitial mucin deposition. Here we report a rare case of unilateral linear TLE in 4 year-old girl which highlights the variable clinical presentations of TLE A 4-year-old girl presented with asymptomatic multiple erythematous to brownish plaques linearly arranged along the inner side of the right forearm for the last 1 year. Skin biopsy revealed periadnexal lymphocytic infiltration and mucinous material deposition in dermis without showing dermoepidermal interface changes. A blood test showed positive for anti-nuclear antibody. Based on clinicopathologic and laboratory findings, her lesion was diagnosed as TLE. Her skin lesions have been improving by intralesional corticosteroid injection repeated at regular intervals.
