        의제설정기능을 갖고 있는 매스커뮤니케이션은 현대의 선거에 있어서 유권자의 후보자 선택에 중요한 자료가 되는 정보를 생산하고 가공해서 전달하는 과정 속에서 유권자의 투표행태에 영향을 미치는 매우 중요한 메카니즘의 하나가 되었다. 특히 TV토론은 후보의 차별화를 위한 공론의 장을 제공함으로써 투표행태에 직간접적인 영향을 끼치는 가장 중요한 선거정보 전달수단으로 평가받고 있다. 한국의 제15대 대통령 선거에서 본격적으로 도입된 TV토론은 어떠하였는가? 본 연구는 이러한 맥락에서 제15대 대통령 선거에서 TV토론이 의제설정기능을 제대로 수행하였는가의 문제에서 출발해, TV토론이 제기한 중요 선거이슈들이 유권자들의 투표행태에는 어떻게 반영되었으며, 결과적으로 특정 후보자별로는 어떻게 연관되어 있는가 등에 관해 논의하고자 한다. TV토론이 제기한 중요 이슈로는 IMF경제책임론, 정권교체론, 세대교체론, 3김청산론, 사상문제, 아들병역문제, 경선불복문제, 건강문제 등 8개로 설정하였으며, 유권자를 대상으로 직접면접조사 한 자료를 바탕으로 경험적 차원의 연구를 수행하였다. The masscommunications, having the agenda-setting function, has become one of the most important mechanism on nowaday's vote, on producing data which become important source on choosing a candidate, and on making and transferring the data to the voters. Especially, the TV debates are considered as the most important data transferring method at the election. by supplying the discussing field, to distinguish the candidates, effecting directly or indirectly. How was the TV debate. which was inducted regularly on the 15th Presidential Election of Korea? In this situation, this study is, first, for the question whether the TV debates did its topic choosing function well, on the 15th Presidential election, and next, how the main issues, proposed at the TV debates, reflected on the voting behaviors, and last, how it was related for each candidate. Eight main issues were choosen at the TV debates. ie., economic responsibility for IMF. exchanging the political power, exchanging the ages, three Kims' retirement. DJ's ideology, son's military service, denying the conclusion of the vote, and DJ's health. For this study, an experimental study was done by direct survey on the voters.

        A university and technical college can not stand firm without sufficient number of students. The purpose of this study is to predict the number of applicants for admission to university and technical college in the relevant year, compared to the number of students the university and technical college will receive. It is very important, because whether the university and technical college will exist or not depends on it. The results of the study are as follows ; First, the probability that the present each graders in secondary school will go up to third grade of high school is 97.6% in high school 2nd graders, 94.2% in high school 1st graders, 91.7% in middle school 3rd graders, 91.0% in middle school 2nd graders and 90.8% in middle school 1st graders. Secondly, the number of applicants for admission to university was predicted through above estimation as follows ; ◁표삽입▷(원문을 참조하세요) Thirdly, so far the number of freshmen has increased.         부산·울산·경남지역 직업병 감시체계

        Objective: Occupational medicine specialists in the Busan, Ulsan and Kyung-Nam areas established an area-based occupational disease surveillance system and used this system to collected case information for the purpose of preventing occupational diseases Methods: l l hospital participated in this system. The authors selected five main diseases, which were hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), work-related musculoskeletal disorder (WRMSD), occupational asthma, occupational skin disease and occupational and occupational lung cancer and established their case definitions. All cases were reported on the web, and real time analysis was conducted. Results: Between April 2001 and April 2003, 192 cases of HAVS, 118 cases of WRMSD, 33 cases of occupational asthma, 17 cases of occupational skin disease and 17 cases of occupational lung cancer (for a total of 377 cases of these five main diseases) were reported. most of the HAVS cases came from shipbuilding, and 172 of them (92.7%) were associated with grinding. Of the four main types of WRMSD, carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) was the most prevalent with 46 cases and shipbuilding was also the main industry involved (83.9%). The ergonomic risk factors involved mainly associated with the hand. In 19 (57.6%) and 4 (12.1%) cases of occupational asthma, the agents involved. The causative agents of occupational lung cancer included Cr, welding fume, PAH, Ni, etc. 10(58.8%) of the cases were diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma and 5(29.4%) as adenoma. Conclusion: This result showed that an area-based occupational disease surveillance system might provide an effective method of evaluating the prevalence of such diseases, however the Busan, Ulsan and Kyung-Nam provinces are too large to be treated as individual areas. Therefore, the authors suggest that each province should establish its own surveillance system.

        Intravenous contrast media application using cone-beam computed tomography in a rabbit model

        Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the feasibility of visualizing soft tissue lesions and vascular structures using contrast-enhanced cone-beam computed tomography (CE-CBCT) after the intravenous administration of a contrast medium in an animal model. Materials and Methods: CBCT was performed on six rabbits after a contrast medium was administered using an injection dose of 2 mL/kg body weight and an injection rate of 1 mL/s via the ear vein or femoral vein under general anesthesia. Artificial soft tissue lesions were created through the transplantation of autologous fatty tissue into the salivary gland. Volume rendering reconstruction, maximum intensity projection, and multiplanar reconstruction images were reconstructed and evaluated in order to visualize soft tissue contrast and vascular structures. Results: The contrast enhancement of soft tissue was possible using all contrast medium injection parameters. An adequate contrast medium injection parameter for facilitating effective CE-CBCT was a 5-mL injection before exposure combined with a continuous 5-mL injection during scanning. Artificial soft tissue lesions were successfully created in the animals. The CE-CBCT images demonstrated adequate opacification of the soft tissues and vascular structures. Conclusion: Despite limited soft tissue resolution, the opacification of vascular structures was observed and artificial soft tissue lesions were visualized with sufficient contrast to the surrounding structures. The vascular structures and soft tissue lesions appeared well delineated in the CE-CBCT images, which was probably due to the superior spatial resolution of CE-CBCT compared to other techniques, such as multislice computed tomography.

        Synthesis of a pH-Sensitive PEO-Based Block Copolymer and its Application for the Stabilization of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

        <P>PEO-based amphiphilic block copolymers that exhibit a pH responsive phase transition behavior are synthesized. The amphiphilic block copolymers show sharp phase transitions in the physiological pH (7.2) range of aqueous media. The block copolymers were efficient stabilizers for the preparation of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles in aqueous media. The resulting iron oxide nanoparticles in the size range of 5–30 nm showed a relatively good <TEX>$T_2^* $</TEX> image on the basis of the results on their phantom test. All the materials were characterized by the combination of <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography, UV/visible spectroscopic analysis, magnetization, transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction, and X-ray diffraction pattern analysis.</P><P> <img src='wiley_img_2010/10221352-2010-211-10-MACP200900528-gra001.gif' alt='wiley_img_2010/10221352-2010-211-10-MACP200900528-gra001'> </P> <B>Graphic Abstract</B> <P>The synthesis of PEO-based amphiphilic block copolymers that exhibit a pH responsive phase transition behavior is reported.         Stereospecific Effects of Ginsenoside Rg<sub>3</sub> Epimers on Swine Coronary Artery Contractions

        <P>Previous reports have shown that ginseng saponins, the active ingredients of <I>Panax ginseng</I>, induce relaxation of hormone- or high K<SUP>+</SUP>-induced blood vessel contraction. We recently demonstrated that 20(<I>R</I>)- and 20(<I>S</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> epimers regulate ion channel activities in a stereospecific manner. Here, we examined whether ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> epimers also exhibit differential effects on swine coronary artery contractions induced by high K<SUP>+</SUP> or 5-HT. We found that treatment with 20(<I>S</I>)- but not 20(<I>R</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> caused a potent concentration-dependent, endothelium-independent relaxation of coronary artery contraction induced by 25 m<SMALL>M</SMALL> KCl. However, treatment with both 20(<I>S</I>)- and 20(<I>R</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> induced a significant, concentration-dependent relaxation of 3 μ<SMALL>M</SMALL> 5-HT-induced coronary artery contractions in intact samples, while only 20(<I>S</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> inhibited coronary artery contraction in endothelium-denuded arteries. 20(<I>S</I>)- but not 20(<I>R</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> inhibited <SMALL>L</SMALL>-type Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> channel currents in a dose- and voltage-dependent manner. These results indicate that 20(<I>S</I>)- and 20(<I>R</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> epimers might exhibit stereospecific relaxation effects on swine coronary artery contractions caused by high K<SUP>+</SUP> and 5-HT receptor activation.</P>

        Preparation and Characterization of Water-Dispersible Silver Nanoparticles Stabilized by PEO-Conjugated Pro-Drugs

        $\omega$-Anhydride-functionalized poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) obtained from chain-end functionalization and anionic ring-opening polymerization of ethylene oxide using n-butyllithium with potassium t-butoxide in the presence of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) was found to be an efficient material for the preparation of water-soluble, polymeric pro-drugs. The reaction of $\omega$-anhydride-functionalized PEO with sulfonamide or with vancomycin provided an efficient method to produce corresponding, water-soluble, PEO-conjugated sulfonamide or PEO-conjugated, vancomycin pro-drugs. These were used successfully to prepare water-dispersible, silver nanoparticles. In this study, the particle sizes were in the range of $5{\sim}40$ nm. The resulting products were characterized by $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, electron and X-ray diffraction, size exclusion chromatography, and UV/Visible spectroscopy.

        일정기간 연에 노출된 흰쥐 (Sprague-Dawley)를 대상으로 연 착화제의 단독 혹은 병용투여로써 연 노출 지표의 변화를 관찰하고 연 착화제의 효능을 파악함으로써 연중독의 관리에 일조하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. 실험동물을 대조군과 실험군으로 양분하고, 실험군은 다시 착화제 투영 형태에 따라 BAL 단독투여, CaEDTA 단독투여, DMSA 단독투여, D-penicillamine 단독투여, BAL과 DMSA 병용투여, CaEDTA와 D-penicillamine 병용투여, DMSA와 D-penicillamine 병용투여의 10군으로 나누었다. 대조군과 실험군 모두 5주간 일정량의 연에 노출시킨 후, 실험군에 대해서는 착화제를 5일간 투여하였다. 요중으로 연을 조기에, 그리고 다량 배설시키기 위하여 연 착화제를 선택할 경우 CaEDTA 단독 혹은 CaEDTA와 다른 착화제와의 병용(p<0.05), 혈중 연 제거를 위해서는 BAL 단독 혹은 BAL과 다른 착화제와의 병용투여(p<0.05)가 각각 우수하다고 생각된다.

        Physical Dormancy in Seeds of Chinese Milk Vetch (Astragalus sinicus L.) from Korea

        Freshly harvested seed of Chinese milk vetch (Astragalus sinicus L.; CMV) was strongly dormant because of hardseedness. Seeds of freshly harvested germinated only 8% while clipping the seed coat completely overcome the innate dormancy, which indicates inhibition of germination of the seed is mainly due to seed coat (87%). The dormant (intact) hard seeds did not imbibe water whereas the non-dormant (clipped) seeds took up rapidly. In natural environment condition, the hard seed coat dormancy was broken only after 5 months after seed harvest. To break such a strong seed coat dormancy, the chemical and heat treatments were effective. Concentrated sulfuric acid was more effective than dry heat and hot water treatments. Hot water treatment improved germination but the germination percentage was less than 41%. Treatments increased germination due to its effect on the seed coat integrity. A scanning electron microscope reveled that disruption of seed coat layers and subsequent development of numerous crack in the hilum region of the seed and on the seed coat surface of concentrated sulfuric acid treatment and formation of cracks in the dry heat treatments, respectively, were observed in the seed coat surface, which served as water entry points.

      • Rice C2-Domain Proteins Are Induced and Translocated to the Plasma Membrane in Response to a Fungal Elicitor

        ABSTRACT: Hundreds of proteins involved in signaling pathways contain a Ca^(2+)-dependent membrane-binding motif called the C2-domain. However, no small C2-domain proteins consisting of a single C2-domain have been reported in animal cells. We have isolated two cDNA clones, OsERG1a and OsERGIb, that encode two small C2-domain proteins of 156 and 159 amino acids, respectively, from a fungal elicitor-treated rice cDNA library. The clones are believed to have originated from a single gene by alternative splicing. Transcript levels of the OsERG1 gene are dramatically elvated by a fungal elicitor prepared from Magnaporthe grisea or by Ca^(2+) ions. The OsERG1 protein produced in Escherichia coli binds to phospholipid vesicles in a Ca^(2+)-dependent manner and is translocated to the plasma membrane of plant cells by treatment with either a fungal elicitor of a Ca^(2+)-ionophore. These results suggest that OsERG1 proteins containing a single C2-domain are involved in plant defense signaling systems.
