A university and technical college can not stand firm without sufficient number of students. The purpose of this study is to predict the number of applicants for admission to university and technical college in the relevant year, compared to the number of students the university and technical college will receive. It is very important, because whether the university and technical college will exist or not depends on it. The results of the study are as follows ; First, the probability that the present each graders in secondary school will go up to third grade of high school is 97.6% in high school 2nd graders, 94.2% in high school 1st graders, 91.7% in middle school 3rd graders, 91.0% in middle school 2nd graders and 90.8% in middle school 1st graders. Secondly, the number of applicants for admission to university was predicted through above estimation as follows ; ◁표삽입▷(원문을 참조하세요) Thirdly, so far the number of freshmen has increased. 의제설정기능을 갖고 있는 매스커뮤니케이션은 현대의 선거에 있어서 유권자의 후보자 선택에 중요한 자료가 되는 정보를 생산하고 가공해서 전달하는 과정 속에서 유권자의 투표행태에 영향을 미치는 매우 중요한 메카니즘의 하나가 되었다. 특히 TV토론은 후보의 차별화를 위한 공론의 장을 제공함으로써 투표행태에 직간접적인 영향을 끼치는 가장 중요한 선거정보 전달수단으로 평가받고 있다. 한국의 제15대 대통령 선거에서 본격적으로 도입된 TV토론은 어떠하였는가? 본 연구는 이러한 맥락에서 제15대 대통령 선거에서 TV토론이 의제설정기능을 제대로 수행하였는가의 문제에서 출발해, TV토론이 제기한 중요 선거이슈들이 유권자들의 투표행태에는 어떻게 반영되었으며, 결과적으로 특정 후보자별로는 어떻게 연관되어 있는가 등에 관해 논의하고자 한다. TV토론이 제기한 중요 이슈로는 IMF경제책임론, 정권교체론, 세대교체론, 3김청산론, 사상문제, 아들병역문제, 경선불복문제, 건강문제 등 8개로 설정하였으며, 유권자를 대상으로 직접면접조사 한 자료를 바탕으로 경험적 차원의 연구를 수행하였다. The masscommunications, having the agenda-setting function, has become one of the most important mechanism on nowaday's vote, on producing data which become important source on choosing a candidate, and on making and transferring the data to the voters. Especially, the TV debates are considered as the most important data transferring method at the election. by supplying the discussing field, to distinguish the candidates, effecting directly or indirectly. How was the TV debate. which was inducted regularly on the 15th Presidential Election of Korea? In this situation, this study is, first, for the question whether the TV debates did its topic choosing function well, on the 15th Presidential election, and next, how the main issues, proposed at the TV debates, reflected on the voting behaviors, and last, how it was related for each candidate. Eight main issues were choosen at the TV debates. ie., economic responsibility for IMF. exchanging the political power, exchanging the ages, three Kims' retirement. DJ's ideology, son's military service, denying the conclusion of the vote, and DJ's health. For this study, an experimental study was done by direct survey on the voters.

Objective: Occupational medicine specialists in the Busan, Ulsan and Kyung-Nam areas established an area-based occupational disease surveillance system and used this system to collected case information for the purpose of preventing occupational diseases Methods: l l hospital participated in this system. The authors selected five main diseases, which were hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), work-related musculoskeletal disorder (WRMSD), occupational asthma, occupational skin disease and occupational and occupational lung cancer and established their case definitions. All cases were reported on the web, and real time analysis was conducted. Results: Between April 2001 and April 2003, 192 cases of HAVS, 118 cases of WRMSD, 33 cases of occupational asthma, 17 cases of occupational skin disease and 17 cases of occupational lung cancer (for a total of 377 cases of these five main diseases) were reported. most of the HAVS cases came from shipbuilding, and 172 of them (92.7%) were associated with grinding. Of the four main types of WRMSD, carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) was the most prevalent with 46 cases and shipbuilding was also the main industry involved (83.9%). The ergonomic risk factors involved mainly associated with the hand. In 19 (57.6%) and 4 (12.1%) cases of occupational asthma, the agents involved. The causative agents of occupational lung cancer included Cr, welding fume, PAH, Ni, etc. 10(58.8%) of the cases were diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma and 5(29.4%) as adenoma. Conclusion: This result showed that an area-based occupational disease surveillance system might provide an effective method of evaluating the prevalence of such diseases, however the Busan, Ulsan and Kyung-Nam provinces are too large to be treated as individual areas. Therefore, the authors suggest that each province should establish its own surveillance system.

<P>Permanent neonatal diabetes (PND) is a rare form of diabetes characterized by insulin-requiring hyperglycemia diagnosed within the first three months of life. In most cases, the causes are not known. Recently, mutations in the <I>KCNJ11</I> gene encoding the Kir6.2 subunit of the ATP-sensitive K<SUP>+</SUP> channel have been described in patients with PND. We report the first two Korean cases with PND due to a lysineto- arginine substitution at position 170 (K179R) and a valine-to-methionine substitution at position 59 (V59M) mutations of <I>KCNJ11</I> encoding Kir6.2, respectively. After several years of insulin therapy, these patients were managed by oral glibenclamide therapy at a daily dose of 0.8-0.9 mg/kg. Their basal c-peptide levels increased after one week of glibenclamide therapy, and one month later, the insulin and c-peptide levels were in the normal ranges without any episodes of hyper- or hypoglycemia. These cases demonstrate that oral sulfonylurea may be the treatment of choice in PND patients with <I>KCNJ11</I> mutations even at a young age.</P>

Heat transfer experiments in an annulus passage were performed using SPHINX(Supercritical Pressure Heat Transfer Investigation for NeXt Generation), which was constructed at KAERI(Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute), to investigate the heat transfer behaviors of supercritical $CO_{2}$. $CO_{2}$ was selected as the working fluid to utilize its low critical pressure and temperature when compared with water. The mass flux was in the range of 400 to 1200 $kg/m^{2}s$ and the heat flux was chosen at rates up to 150 $kW/m^{2}$. The selected pressures were 7.75 and 8.12 MPa. At lower mass fluxes, heat transfer deterioration occurs if the heat flux increases beyond a certain value. Comparison with the tube test results showed that the degree of heat transfer deterioration in the heat flux was smaller than that in the tube. In addition, the Nusselt number correlation for a normal heat transfer mode is presented.
Stereospecific Effects of Ginsenoside Rg<sub>3</sub> Epimers on Swine Coronary Artery Contractions

<P>Previous reports have shown that ginseng saponins, the active ingredients of <I>Panax ginseng</I>, induce relaxation of hormone- or high K<SUP>+</SUP>-induced blood vessel contraction. We recently demonstrated that 20(<I>R</I>)- and 20(<I>S</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> epimers regulate ion channel activities in a stereospecific manner. Here, we examined whether ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> epimers also exhibit differential effects on swine coronary artery contractions induced by high K<SUP>+</SUP> or 5-HT. We found that treatment with 20(<I>S</I>)- but not 20(<I>R</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> caused a potent concentration-dependent, endothelium-independent relaxation of coronary artery contraction induced by 25 m<SMALL>M</SMALL> KCl. However, treatment with both 20(<I>S</I>)- and 20(<I>R</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> induced a significant, concentration-dependent relaxation of 3 μ<SMALL>M</SMALL> 5-HT-induced coronary artery contractions in intact samples, while only 20(<I>S</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> inhibited coronary artery contraction in endothelium-denuded arteries. 20(<I>S</I>)- but not 20(<I>R</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> inhibited <SMALL>L</SMALL>-type Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> channel currents in a dose- and voltage-dependent manner. These results indicate that 20(<I>S</I>)- and 20(<I>R</I>)-ginsenoside Rg<SUB>3</SUB> epimers might exhibit stereospecific relaxation effects on swine coronary artery contractions caused by high K<SUP>+</SUP> and 5-HT receptor activation.</P>
Intravenous contrast media application using cone-beam computed tomography in a rabbit model

Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the feasibility of visualizing soft tissue lesions and vascular structures using contrast-enhanced cone-beam computed tomography (CE-CBCT) after the intravenous administration of a contrast medium in an animal model. Materials and Methods: CBCT was performed on six rabbits after a contrast medium was administered using an injection dose of 2 mL/kg body weight and an injection rate of 1 mL/s via the ear vein or femoral vein under general anesthesia. Artificial soft tissue lesions were created through the transplantation of autologous fatty tissue into the salivary gland. Volume rendering reconstruction, maximum intensity projection, and multiplanar reconstruction images were reconstructed and evaluated in order to visualize soft tissue contrast and vascular structures. Results: The contrast enhancement of soft tissue was possible using all contrast medium injection parameters. An adequate contrast medium injection parameter for facilitating effective CE-CBCT was a 5-mL injection before exposure combined with a continuous 5-mL injection during scanning. Artificial soft tissue lesions were successfully created in the animals. The CE-CBCT images demonstrated adequate opacification of the soft tissues and vascular structures. Conclusion: Despite limited soft tissue resolution, the opacification of vascular structures was observed and artificial soft tissue lesions were visualized with sufficient contrast to the surrounding structures. The vascular structures and soft tissue lesions appeared well delineated in the CE-CBCT images, which was probably due to the superior spatial resolution of CE-CBCT compared to other techniques, such as multislice computed tomography.

Objective : The authors prospectively analyzed the effect of one-level or two-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), comparing stand-alone cages and cage-with-plate fixation constructs with respect to clinical outcomes and radiologic changes. Methods : A total of 84 patients who underwent one-level (n=52) or two-level ACDF (n=32) for cervical disc disease and who completed 2 years of follow-up were included in this study. The patients were divided by cervical level and grouped into ACDF-Cage-only and ACDF-Cage-with-plate groups. The following parameters were assessed using radiographs : subsidence, C2-C7 lordosis angle, fusion segment angle, adjacent disc space narrowing, and fusion status. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the neck disability index (NDI) and visual analog scale scores for arm pain. Results : In the comparison of one-level ACDF-cage-only and ACDF-cage-with-plate groups, the NDI score was better in the cage-only group at the 3-, 12-, and 24-month follow-ups : however, no significant difference in clinical outcomes was observed. In the comparison of two-level ACDF-cage-only and ACDF-cage-with-plate groups, no difference in any clinical outcome was observed between the two groups. At the 24-month follow-up, subsidence was observed in 45.8% of patients in the one-level cage-only group and 32.1% of patients in the one-level cage-with-plate fixation group. There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence rate between the two groups (p=0.312). Subsidence in the two-level cage-only group (66.6%) was significantly more frequent than in the two-level cage-with-plate fixation group (30%; p=0.049). The fusion rate for patients in the one-level cage-only group was not significantly different from that in the one-level cage-with-plate fixation group (cage-only, 87.5%; cage-with-plate fixation, 92.9%; p=0.425) ; fusion rate in the two-level patients were also similar between groups (cage-only, 83.3%; cage-with-plate fixation, 95%; p=0.31). Conclusion : Our clinical results showed that for single-level cases, plate fixation had no additional benefit versus cage-only; for two-level ACDF cases, the fusion rate and clinical outcomes were similar, although the cage-with-plate fixation group had a lower incidence of cage subsidence than did the cage-only group. We conclude that physicians should be aware of this possible disadvantage associated with using cervical plates in one-level ACDF. However, in two-level ACDF, subsidence is more likely to occur without plate fixation, and thus the addition of plate fixation should be considered.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report significant enhancement in thermoelectric performance of n-type Bi<SUB>2</SUB>(Te,Se)<SUB>3</SUB> prepared via conventional melting process. We deposited chemically synthesized Ag nanoparticles onto Te-rich Bi<SUB>2</SUB>(Te,Se)<SUB>3</SUB> and sintered the resulting substance to obtain a bulk product. The Ag nanoparticles and excessive Te elements should be converted to interstitial and antisite defects in the product, respectively, which possibly interacted to vary thermoelectric transport properties of the product. We endeavored to balance the concentration of the defects to optimize the properties, and thus we strengthened phonon glass electron crystal characteristic of the product, resulting in the improvement in thermoelectric performance.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
