<P>Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) is a promising technique to transmit information and harvest energy at the same time. In this paper, we investigate multiuser scheduling criteria in a multiuser SWIPT system taking into account co-channel interference in a multicell environment, where each transmitter operate independently. We propose an <TEX>$\alpha $</TEX>-adaptive scheduling scheme, which is able to adjust a scheduling criterion between maximizing achievable rate and maximizing harvested energy of the scheduled device by adjusting <TEX>$\alpha $</TEX> factor. Employing a power splitting receiver, we derive closed-form analytical results including cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the harvested energy, CDF of the achievable rate, average harvested energy, and average achievable rate. We also investigate the effect of adjustable <TEX>$\alpha $</TEX> factor in the proposed scheduling scheme and multiuser diversity in terms of the CDF of the harvested energy, the CDF of the achievable rate, and rate-energy tradeoff, compared with two conventional scheduling schemes: random scheduling and max-SNR scheduling. Our analytical results provide insightful information for designing multiuser scheduling criteria considering co-channel interference in the SWIPT systems.</P>
Joint Link Adaptation and User Scheduling With HARQ in Multicell Environments

<P>Intercell interference (ICI) is one of the most critical factors affecting performance of cellular networks. In this paper, we investigate a joint link adaptation and user scheduling problem for a multicell downlink employing hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) techniques, where the ICI exists among cells. We first propose an approximation method on aggregated ICI for analyzing an effective signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) with the HARQ technique at users, which is known as identical path-loss approximation (IPLA). Based on the proposed IPLA, we propose a transmission rate selection algorithm maximizing an expected throughput at each user. We also propose a simple but effective cross-layer framework jointly combining transmission rate adaptation and user scheduling techniques, considering both HARQ and ICI. It is shown that the statistical distribution of the effective SINR at users based on the IPLA agrees well with the empirical distribution, while the conventional Gaussian approximation (GA) does not work well in the case that dominant ICIs exist. Thus, IPLA enables base stations (BSs) to choose more accurate transmission rates. Furthermore, the proposed IPLA-based cross-layer policy outperforms existing policies in terms of both system throughput and user fairness.</P>
Artificial Noise-Aided User Scheduling for Optimal Secrecy Multiuser Diversity

<P>In this letter, we propose a user scheduling scheme, which enables non-scheduled users to generate artificial noise in order to enhance wireless security in a multiuser wiretap network, where there exist N users, a single desired receiver, and K eavesdroppers. Our proposed scheme can achieve the optimal multiuser diversity gain (i.e., log log N) by adopting appropriate threshold values for scheduling feedback, which is also able to significantly reduce signaling overhead. We mathematically prove the achievability based on the derivation of a secure user-scaling law. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves a better average secrecy rate than the conventional scheme in a finite N case, even if both schemes obtain the same secure user-scaling law as N -> infinity.</P>
Artificial Noise-Aided User Scheduling From the Perspective of Secrecy Outage Probability

<P>In this correspondence paper, we propose a secure user scheduling scheme, which selects a user for data transmission and an extra user for artificial noise generation in a multiuser single-input and multiple-output wiretap network. The proposed scheme does not require the instantaneous channel state information of the eavesdropper but effectively reduce the secrecy outage probability. Specifically, the secrecy outage probability of the proposed scheme is mathematically derived in closed form when we consider maximum-ratio combining at both desired receiver and eavesdropper. Through simulations, we verify our analytical results and investigate the effect of unknown location of the eavesdropper on the secrecy outage probability when we consider the notion of a secrecy protected zone.</P>

<P>In this paper, we investigate the effects of heterogeneous mobility on rate adaptation and user scheduling in cellular networks with hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ). To this end, we first show the performance tradeoff between two extreme scheduling criteria: retransmission-oriented scheduling (ROS) and mixed scheduling (MS) criteria over time-correlated Rayleigh fading channels. Then, we propose an ROS-based joint rate adaptation and user scheduling (JRAUS) policy for cellular networks and compare it with the conventional and reference JRAUS policies. We also evaluate the system-level performance of the proposed ROS-based JRAUS policy in various user distribution and mobility scenarios. In particular, in an asymmetric user distribution and heterogeneous mobility scenario, which is the most general one in practice, the proposed JRUAS policy yields a throughput gain of 49% and a fairness gain of 155% over the conventional JRAUS policies. In this paper, we find that the rate adaptation is significant not only in a single point-to-point link but in multiuser systems with heterogeneous mobility as well.</P>

Purpose: This study aimed to establish a large-scale database of patients with gastric cancer to facilitate the development of a nationalcancer management system and a comprehensive cancer control policy. Materials and Methods: An observational prospective cohort study on gastric cancer was initiated in 2010. A total of 14 cancer centers throughout the country and 152 researchers were involved in this study. Patient enrollment began in January 2011, and data regarding clinicopathological characteristics, life style-related factors, quality of life, as well as diet diaries were collected. Results: In total, 4,963 patients were enrolled until December 2014, and approximately 5% of all Korean patients with gastric cancer annually were included. The mean age was $58.2{\pm}11.5$ years, and 68.2% were men. The number of patients in each stage was as follows: 3,394 patients (68.4%) were in stage IA/B; 514 patients (10.4%), in stage IIA/B; 469 patients (9.5%), in stage IIIA/B/C; and 127 patients (2.6%), in stage IV. Surgical treatment was performed in 3,958 patients (79.8%), endoscopic resection was performed in 700 patients (14.1%), and 167 patients (3.4%) received palliative chemotherapy. The response rate for the questionnaire on the quality of life was 95%; however, diet diaries were only collected for 27% of patients. Conclusions: To provide comprehensive information on gastric cancer for patients, physicians, and government officials, a large-scale database of Korean patients with gastric cancer was established. Based on the findings of this cohort study, an effective cancer management system and national cancer control policy could be developed.
