An ink transfer is modeled and experimentally verified using roll-to-roll electric direct gravure printing process. The ink transfer model based on the physical mechanism for the maximum ink transfer rate is proposed, and experimented by the electric printing machine in FDRC for the relations of the maximum ink transfer rates to the printing pressure, the operating speed, the operating tension, the surface roughness of substrates, and the contact angle between substrate and silver ink. The free ink split coefficient and immobilized ink under the maximum ink transfer rate are calculated by the physical parameter in a printing process and contact angle between substrates and ink. Numerical simulations and experimental studies were carried out to verify performances of the proposed ink transfer model. Results showed that the proposed ink transfer model was effective for the prediction of the amount of transferred ink to the substrate in a direct gravure printing systems.
A Study on the Correlation between Tension and Lateral Behavior in a Web Transport System

An experimental study on the relationship between longitudinal and lateral behavior of a flexible thin material was carried out. It was found out that there is critically correlated zone of operating conditions which exerts influence on the lateral behavior of the moving web, which is associated with slippage phenomena between the web and a roller surface. If the web tension is not sufficiently high, lateral dynamic motion is seriously affected by tension variation of the web and lateral position error of the moving web is increased as a result. The ratio of the displacement of a guider roll and the lateral position of the web was measured for many different operating conditions, and an effective factor was defined based on experimental data and a traction coefficient estimation model and air-gap thickness model with which slip condition can be determined. The factor describes the influence of the web tension on the lateral dynamic response of the moving web and can be used self-tuning guider control system.

Dancer systems are most widely used mechanism for attenuation of tension disturbances. Lately, demands for high speed converting machines over 500mpm(m/min) are raising but domestic converting industries can not come up with the machines because capacities for a designing of the converting machine are restricted lower than 300mpm. Moreover roll-toroll is attracted flexible display manufacturer’s attention as a effective method for productivity. A constant tension level in the span before the first printing cylinder is the key of high speed quality printing. This paper presents a modeling and simulations of dancer systems on converting machines.
