The total conductivity and oxygen permeation in (Ce1-xZrxO2)0.9(CaO)0.1 solid solutions were measure das a function of temperature and oxygen partial pressure. Empirically, σ at given x and T was expressed essentially by σ=σo2+σeo Po2-1/4, where σo2 and σeo are constant. Applying a standard defect model in which major defects are Cace", Cece' and Vo in ideal solution, we can assign σo2 as the oxide ion conductivity decreases while the electronic conductivity increases with the increase in Zr content. Using the oxide ion and electronic conductivities thus determined, the oxygen permeation flux was calculated for respective Po2 and T conditions at which the measurements were made. The calculated values were found to agree with the observed ones.
Surge Analysis on a Long Underground Cable System

This paper investigates a basic characteristic of fault surge in a long cable system based on EMTP simulations. It is made clear from the simulation results that the sheath over-voltage is higher on a cross-bonded cable than that on a normal-bonded cable. Also, a resonant overvoltage appears when cables with shunt reactors are disconnected. It becomes clear that the period of the beat becomes long as the compensation rate increases. From simulations with earth continuity conductor (ECC), the ECC is effective to reduce an overvoltage in the case of a fault at an overhead line connected to the cable.
Design and Construction of GINZA KABUKIZA

This paper describes the structural solution for the design of a 29-story high-rise tower, which features a large office space above the Kabukiza Theatre. Kabuki is a type of Japanese traditional drama, and Kabukiza is the home building of Kabuki. GINZA KABUKIZA is the fifth generation of the Kabukiza Theatre, the first of which was built in 1889. In order to support 23 stories of office space above the theater - featuring a large void in plan - two 13-meter-deep mega-trusses, spanning 38.4 meters, are installed at the fifth floor of the building. Steelwork is used as a primary material for the structure above-ground, and a hybrid response control system using a buckling-restrained brace and oil damper is adopted in order to achieve a high seismic performance. This paper also describes the erection process of installing hydraulic jacks directly above the mega-truss at column bases, in order to keep the structure above the truss level during construction. The temple architecture of the previous Kabukiza is carefully restored by incorporating contemporary light-weight materials supported by steelwork.
