충격손상 복합재료의 잔류강도저하거동에 대한 통계적 평가

본 논문에서는 충격손상을 갖는 유리섬유강화 복합재료의 강도 저하 특성과 이의 통계적 특성을 실험적으로 평가하였다. 평직 복합재료의 주요 충격손상은 섬유파단과 모재균열로서 이는 층간분리가 주된 충격손상인 일방향 적 층복합재료와는 상이한 양상이다. 일방향 적층복합재료에 대하여 제안된 기존의 잔류강도 예측모델을 이용하여 충격 손상을 갖는 평직 glass/epoxy 복합재료의 잔류강도를 평가하였다. 그 결과 Avva 및 Caprino의 잔류강도 예측모델은 평직 복합재료의 잔류강도에 대해서도 잘 평가되었다. 또한 유리섬유강화 복합재료의 잔류강도에 대한 통계적 특성 평가를 위한 모델을 제안하였으며, 이를 통한 예측결과는 복합재료의 두께와 관계없이 실험결과를 잘 묘사하였다. This study is experimentally performed to evaluate the strength reduction behavior and its statistical properties of plain woven glass/epoxy composites. The results indicate that the major impact damage of plain woven glass/epoxy composites is the fiber breakage and matrix crack, whereas the dominant impact damage of unidirectional carbon/epoxy laminates is the delamination, which depends on the stacking sequence. The residual strength prediction models, previously proposed on unidirectional laminates, are applied to evaluate the residual strength of plain woven glass/epoxy composites with impact damage. Among these models, the results by Caprino and Avva's model have a good agreement with the experimental results. To investigate the variability of residual strength of the impacted composite materials, a statistical model was proposed and its results were in conformance with the experimental results regardless of their thickness.
Pulsatile Ocular Blood Flow in Healthy Koreans

Purpose: To determine the normal reference range of pulsatile ocular blood flow (POBF) values in healthy Korean subjects and to find out the factors that may affect them. Methods: A total of 280 eyes of 280 normal subjects were included in this study. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), axial length, POBF, systemic blood pressure, and pulse rate were measured. The mean, standard deviation, range, and the 5th and 95th percentiles of POBF were calculated, and the influences of various parameters to POBF were determined by multiple regression analyses. Results: The mean POBF value was 766.0±221.6 μl/min in men and 1021.1±249.5 μl/min in women. The 5th and 95th percentiles for POBF values were 486.0 μl/min and 1140.0 μl/min in men and 672.0 μl/min and 1458.0 μl/min in women. The POBF values were significantly influenced by gender, mean blood pressure, pulse rate, and axial length. Conclusions: Even though the POBF values were influenced by gender, BP, and axial length, we could define the normal reference range of POBF in healthy Koreans. This report describes five cases of cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) rhinorrhea which were caused by head injury in four cases and developed after surgical removal of brain tumor in one case. Intrathecally-enhanced brain computerized tomography (CT) with metrizamide, in addition to isotope cisternography, was helpful in localization of the CSF leakage site. All five cases which could not be managed conservatively were successfully repaired by surgical means using biological fibrin glue.

A 4-week Repeated Oral Dose Toxicity Study of Plant Sterol Esters in Sprague-Dawley Rats

The present study was conducted to investigate the potential subacute toxicity of plant sterol esters by a 4-week repeated oral dose in Sprague-Dawley rats. The test article was administered once daily by gavage to rats at dose levels of 0, 1000, 3000, and 9000 mg/kg/day for 4 weeks. During the test period, clinical sign, mortality, body weights, food and water consumption, ophthalmoscopy, urinalysis, hematology, serum biochemistry, gross finding, organ weight, and histopathology were evaluated. A reduction in the body weight was observed in females of the 9000 mg/kg group on day 27 after the initiation of treatment, but not in males of the group. There were no treatment-related effects on mortality, clinical sign, food and water consumption, ophthalmoscopy, urinarlysis, hematology, serum biochemistry, necropsy findings, organ weights, and histopathology in any treatment group. Based on these results, it was concluded that the 4-week repeated oral dose of plant sterol esters resulted in suppressed body weight in female rats at a dose level of 9000 mg/kg/day. In the condition of this study, target organ was not observed and the no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) was considered to be 9000 mg/kg/day for males and 5000 mg/kg/day for females.

Response surface methodology was applied to find the optimum conditions for the production of DXAMase (containing both dextranase and amylase activities) based on the cultivation variables (pH, temperature, and agitation rate). The experimental values from the model equation conceded with predicted values in which the predicted values for dextranase and amylase activities were 2.26 and 3.52 U/ml at pH 4, 28C, 235 rpm, and the corresponding experimental values were 2.41 and 3.68 U/ml, respectively.
