<P>Adult myogenesis responsible for the maintenance and repair of muscle tissue is mainly under the control of myogenic regulatory factors (MRFs) and a few other genes. Transthyretin gene (TTR), codes for a carrier protein for thyroxin (T4) and retinol binding protein bound with retinol in blood plasma, plays a critical role during the early stages of myogenesis. Herein, we investigated the relationship of TTR with other muscle-specific genes and report their expression in muscle satellite cells (MSCs), and increased messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein expression of TTR during MSCs differentiation. Silencing of TTR resulted in decreased myotube formation and decreased expression of myosin light chain (MYL2), myosin heavy chain 3 (MYH3), matrix gla protein (MGP), and voltage-dependent L type calcium channel (Cav1.1) genes. Increased mRNA expression observed in TTR and other myogenic genes with the addition of T4 decreased significantly following TTR knockdown, indicating the critical role of TTR in T4 transportation. Similarly, decreased expression of MGP and Cav1.1 following TTR knockdown signifies the dual role of TTR in controlling muscle myogenesis via regulation of T4 and calcium channel. Our computational and experimental evidences indicate that TTR has a relationship with MRFs and may act on calcium channel and related genes.</P>

We report a systematic study of gene expression during myogenesis and transdifferentiation in four bovine muscle tissues and of adipogenesis in three bovine fat tissues using DNA microarray analysis. One hundred hybridizations were performed and 7245 genes of known and unknown function were identified as being differentially expressed. Supervised hierarchical cluster analysis of gene expression patterns revealed the tissue specificity of genes. A close relationship in global gene expression observed for adipocyte-like cells derived from muscle and adipocytes derived from intramuscular fat suggests a common origin for these cells. The role of transthyretin in myogenesis is a novel finding. Different genes were highly induced during the transdifferentiation of myogenic satellite cells and in the adipogenesis of preadipocytes, indicating the involvement of different molecular mechanisms in these processes. Induction of CD36 and FABP4 expression in adipocyte-like cells and adipocytes may share a common pathway.
Grant Allen’s The Woman Who Did : A Critique on Eugenics and New Womanhood

This paper, which makes available the forgotten pictures and previously unnoticed complexites drawn from articles, introduces aspects of the work of a neglected naturalist and evolutionist writer of the late nineteenth century in Victorian era. In particular, this paper focuses on Allen's analysis of the social construction of marriage and his concern of the future race and the concomitant issue of motherhood and social progress. On the issue of recognizing and validating women's role as mothers and entitling them public recognition as a social contributor, Allen is in line with early feminists known as eugenic feminists such as Sarah Grand and Frances Swiney. As to the mechanism of evolution, however, Allen differed from their view in that he regarded nature as a driving force whereas eugenic feminist saw human control as the key note in the evolutionary process. Such tension is witnessed in Allen's New Woman Novel, The Woman Who Did (1895) in which the protagonist Herminia seeks women's emancipation through her task of mothering premised on eugenic ideology. Ironizing Herminia's failure and her death, Allen calls into question the practicability of the discourse constituting the eugenic project. Drawing on the theories on evolution and Richardson's concept of “eugenic love”, this paper examines social implication in Herminia's maternal agenda and investigates the condition of her project which is already doomed to fail.

Recently, there are many studies to acquire high accuracy of 3D position information in many fields. Photogrammetry changes from analog to digital in which digital photogrammetry is developed by using the digital camera with CCD. In this paper, we make the hydraulic model and took a picture by digital camera. We modelize and digitalize the image by DSW500 and Socet Set Ver5.O. Finally the accuracy of image between digital camera and non-prism total station is analysed.

The compressor has one of important roles in refrigeration cycle and it determines refrigeration efficiency and quality. This paper aims to monitor rotary compressors for room air conditioners by using Acoustic Emission(AE) technique. The reliability of rotary compressors has been evaluated through visual inspection on them after long term test. This paper describes methods for acquisition and processing AE raw signal to monitor the state of rotary compressor. A detecting method of abnormal compressor in real time is suggested and special-purpose monitoring system which can be applied to automatic manufacturing line is developed using one-chip microprocessor at low cost.

Due to an urbanization phenomenon which is caused according to a large selecting land development of a city area drained by river, the keeping gate phenomenon is changed and the flood damage is happening near city river. Recently, many research to reduce such city flood damage for the prevention have been achieved, this study proposed to analyze and arrange pattern of disaster and systems designed plan and establishment further scientific, prompt service of disaster. With GIS technique for decision-making offer the necessary preliminary data(hydrography data, satellite images, DEM, etc). In order to forecast the flooding area of research object area and offer various information which can reduce the flood damage to many users, this study constructs the disaster management system using Internet GIS.

본 논문은 한국 감사원의 실태 및 문제점을 규명하고, 앞으로 감사원이 지향해야할 감사 방향을 제시하고자 하는 것이다. 감사원은 정부감사의 주도적인 역할을 해야 함에도 불구하고 행정부에 소속되어 있어 독립성이 많이 저해되어 왔고, 감사환경에 적절히 대처할 전문인력을 확보하지 못해 요구되는 감사역점을 제대로 이행하지 못했다. 또 다른 정부 감사 체계, 즉 국회 국정감사, 지방의회감사, 자체감사, 상급기관감사 등과 적절히 감사업무가 배분되지 못해 중복감사 등 많은 부작용을 낳았다. 따라서 앞으로 감사원은 감사환경에 부합되는 적절한 감사기준의 정립, 감사원의 의회소속 혹은 독립기관 설치, 전문 감사인력을 확보하여 성과감사 및 정책감사의 적극적 활용, 감사체계간의 효율적인 연계성을 통한 감사 업무의 적절한 배분 등의 방향이 필요하다.

Laboratory experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of far infrared ray(FIR) activated water on the inhibition of algal growth. The growth of S. quadricauda and C. vulgaris was enhanced by the FIR activated water in Allen media containing high concentration of nutrients, but inhibited in natural water containing low concentration of nutrients. The growth of O. tenuis and M. aeruginosa was inhibited in both Allen media and natural water. When comparing the effects of FIR treated water 1(NC1) and 2(NC2), the growth of O. tenuis and M. aeruginosa was somewhat enhanced by NC1, whereas inhibited by NC2. Therefore, it is suggested that NC2 is more effective than NC1 in controlling the algal growth.
