Locoregional recurrence is the most common type of recurrence in surgical operation of gastric adenocarcinoma, and peritoneal dissemination is one of the most difficult problems in advanced gastric adenocarcinoma treatment. Because the peritoneal cavity is the most common site of the first recurrence after gastric cancer resection, intraperitoneal chemotherapy seems a logical choice for cancer chemotherapy. In this study, Mitomycin C (MMC)-activated charcoal (CH)-alginate (ALG) beads were prepared by the mixtures of CH particles adsorbed with MMC as an anti-cancer drug and aqueous alginate solution. The alginate is recognized as biodegradable, nontoxic, and biocompatible. The release of MMC from the beads in 0.1 M Tris buffer was stable and continuous until about 1 week. The MMC-CH-ALG beads can be applied in the peritoneal cavity for intraperitoneal chemotherapy since they provide a good adhesiveness on the tissue and controlled release pattern of the drugs.

Purpose : This study was conducted to develop field triage, transportation, distribution, and prehospital care at a fire disaster by analyzing the victims of the fore that broke out at a bar in Incheon. Method : We analyzed the cases of the victims of a fire in Incheon in Oct. 1999. We determined the primary care hospital, the arrival time, the burn size, the outcome, and the injury type from the medical records, the concerned organ records, and interviews with concerned persons. Result : The total number of victims was 137: 56 prehospital deaths, 1 hospital death, and 80 survivals. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the burn size and the severity was -0.175. There were 121(89.6%) cases of inhalation injury, 59 (43.7%) cases of flame burns, 66 (48.9%) cases of hypoxic brain damage, and 16 (11.9%) cases involving other types of injury. Conclusion : The causes of death of the fire victims were inhalation injury and hypoxic brain damage due to CO poisoning and other toxic inhalants. We propose the use of a simple triage and rapid treatment(START) system and a reassessment the delayed category in fire disasters.

For sleeping stage by electroencephalogram(EEG) analysis, it is especially important to detect the characteristic waves from EEG. The sleeping stage is one of the most important evidence for diagnosing a mental disease. In this paper, sleeping EEG signals have been analyzed using Fourier transform and continuous wavelet transform as well as discrete wavelet transform. We proposed fourier and wavelet for detect of important characteristic waves(hump, sleep spindle, K-complex, hill wave, ripple wave) in sleep EEG that are diagnosed in sleep state. Sleeping EEG data were analysed using Daubechies wavelet transform method and FFT method. As a result of simulation, we show that our neural network system can attain high performance in classification of characteristic waves.
Sc₂O₃를 첨가한 SnO₂/Ca,Pt 가스센서의 부탄감응 특성

A coprecipitation method was used for preparing Ca and Pt doped SnO_(2) powder. Components were investigated by XRD and SEM. Sc_(2)O_(3) added SnO_(2) /Ca,Pt thick film devices were fabricated by screen printing technique for butane gas detecting. By addition of Sc_(2)O_(3), the selectivity of SnO_(2) /Ca,Pt thick film for butane gas was enhanced. The sensitivity of Sc_(2)O_(3) added SnO_(2) /Ca,Pt device to 3,000 ppm butane in air was about 90% at the operating temperature. of 200℃. And the device showed good selectivity for butane gas.

<P>This paper presents a magnetic field analysis of a surface-mounted permanent magnet machine with an overhang structure wherein the rotor axial length exceeds that of the stator. A 2-D analytic method using a lumped magnetic circuit model (LMCM) is proposed for more rapid computation of the overhang effect compared with a conventional 3-D or quasi-3-D finite element analysis (FEA). In the LMCM, the effective overhang length is calculated, and a leakage flux generated in the overhang region is estimated. The accuracy and usefulness of the proposed analytic method is confirmed through the 3-D FEA and the experimental results according to the diverse overhang length, the number of slot/pole, and stator core length.</P>

<P>This paper presents a design method for a small-sized slotless brushless dc motor. Distributed hexagonal windings are employed for achieving a high torque density and for ease of manufacture. Numerical approaches with an analytic model are used to analyze the magnetic and output characteristics of the motor. The proposed motor is manufactured, and the empirical results are compared with the results of the simulation.</P>

We report the existence of new type of phosphatidylcholine-hydrolyzing phospholipase D (PLD), which has been characterized and partially purified in the scuticociliate, Uronema marinum. The enzyme from partial purification showed that it was existed in membrane fraction and was a neutral PLD, which catalyzed both transphosphatidylation and hydrolysis reaction. The activity of partially purified membrane-bound PLD was also found to be optimal at pH 7.0-7.5 for 2 hours at 37℃ and depended strictly on the presence of Ca2+ (2.5 mM) and Mg2+ (1.6 mM). Immunoblot analysis indicated that the enzyme was distinct from hPLD1 (human PLD1) and hPLD2 (human PLD2) because it was not recognized by a polyclonal antibody raised to the 12 terminal amino acid of these enzymes. We also found that the membrane-bound PLD is a PIP2-dependent PLD and that GTP-binding proteins are not implicated in the regulation of this enzyme: This enzyme activity is markedly stimulated by phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) but not by the small G-protein Arf and GTPrS. In addition, this enzyme was capable of hydrolyzing phosphatidylcholine (PC) but not phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), implying that PC was a preferred substrate.
