Strategic PbS quantum dot-based multilayered photoanodes for high efficiency quantum dot-sensitized solar cells

        Basit, M.A.,Abbas, M.A.,Jung, E.S.,Park, Y.M.,Bang, J.H.,Park, T.J. Pergamon Press 2016 Electrochimica Acta Vol. No.

In2S3 is employed as a new passivation layer in PbS quantum dot-based multilayered photoanodes to coalesce the improvement in photocurrent density (JSC) and open-circuit voltage. Suppression of detrimental interfacial charge carrier recombination in In2S3/PbS/TiO2 and In2S3/PbS/CdS/TiO2 multilayered photoanodes, attributed to the In2S3 passivation layer, leads to increased VOC in both photoanodes. In particular, In2S3/PbS/CdS/TiO2 multilayered photoanode exhibited a substantial improvement of ~36% (from 3.2 to 4.3%) in power conversion efficiency, which is attributed to significant increase in JSC value of ~26mA/cm2 by enhanced PbS loading and co-sensitizing effect of CdS along with substantially suppressed interfacial recombination. In-depth electrochemical impedance spectroscopic analysis revealed that the resistance against back-transfer of electrons to electrolyte can be subtly modulated by incorporating In2S3 deposition over PbS. Further, this multiple passivation layer turned out to be beneficial for improving photocorrosion of PbS in a polysulfide electrolyte.

      • S–N Fatigue and Fatigue Crack Propagation Behaviors of X80 Steel at Room and Low Temperatures

        Jung, D. H.,Kwon, J. K.,Woo, N. S.,Kim, Y. J.,Goto, M.,Kim, S. Springer Science + Business Media 2014 Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A - Physi Vol.45 No.2

<P>In the present study, the S-N fatigue and the fatigue crack propagation (FCP) behaviors of American Petroleum Institute X80 steel were examined in the different locations of the base metal (BM), weld metal (WM), and heat-affected zone (HAZ) at 298 K, 223 K, and 193 K (25 degrees C, 50 degrees C, and 80 degrees C). The resistance to S-N fatigue of X80 BM specimen increased greatly with decreasing temperature from 298 K to 193 K (25 degrees C to -80 degrees C) and showed a strong dependency on the flow strength (1/2(yield strength + tensile strength)). The FCP rates of X80 BM specimen were substantially reduced with decreasing temperature from 298 K to 223 K (25 degrees C to 50 degrees C) over the entire Delta K regime, while further reduction in FCP rates was not significant with temperature from 223 K to 193 K (-50 degrees C to -80 degrees C). The FCP rates of the X80 BM and the WM specimens were comparable with each other, while the HAZ specimen showed slightly better FCP resistance than the BM and the WM specimens over the entire Delta K regime at 298 K (25 degrees C). Despite the varying microstructural characteristics of each weld location, the residual stress appeared to be a controlling factor to determine the FCP behavior. The FCP behaviors of high strength X80 steel were discussed based on the microstructural and the fractographic observations. Mixed Schur-Weyl-Sergeev duality for queer Lie superalgebras

Jung, J.H.,Kang, S.J. Academic Press 2014 Journal of algebra Vol.399 No.-

We introduce a new family of superalgebras B→r,s for r,s≥0 such that r+s>0, which we call the walled Brauer superalgebras, and prove the mixed Schur-Weyl-Sergeev duality for queer Lie superalgebras. More precisely, let q(n) be the queer Lie superalgebra, V=Cn|n the natural representation of q(n) and W the dual of V. We prove that, if n≥r+s, the superalgebra B→r,s is isomorphic to the supercentralizer algebra Endq(n)(V@?r@?W@?s)op of the q(n)-action on the mixed tensor space V@?r@?W@?s. As an ingredient for the proof of our main result, we construct a new diagrammatic realization D→k of the Sergeev superalgebra Serk. Finally, we give a presentation of B→r,s in terms of generators and relations.

Complete genome sequence of hyperthermophilic archaeon Thermococcus sp. ES1

        Jung, J.H.,Kim, Y.T.,Jeon, E.J.,Seo, D.H.,Hensley, S.A.,Holden, J.F.,Lee, J.H.,Park, C.S. Elsevier Science Publishers 2014 Journal of biotechnology Vol.174 No.-

Thermococcus sp. strain ES1 is an anaerobic, hyperthermophilic archaeon from a hydrothermal vent that catabolizes sugars and peptides and produces H2S from So, H2, acetate and CO2 as its primary metabolites. We present the complete genome sequence of this strain (1,957,742bp) with a focus on its substrate utilization and metabolite production capabilities. The sequence will contribute to the development of heterotrophic archaea for bioenergy production and biogeochemical modeling in hydrothermal environments.

The economic effect of green roofs on non-point pollutant sources management using the replacement cost approach

        Jung, Y.,Yeo, K.,Oh, J.,Lee, S.,Park, J.,Song, C. G. Springer Science + Business Media 2016 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.20 No.7

<P>A green roof is one of the sustainable management alternatives for mitigating non-point source discharges which have increased along with expanding impervious areas due to urbanization. Although technically viable, it is also necessary to assess its validity by economic analysis because green roof projects typically require a substantial amount of budget. Four scenarios were established to (1) analyze the effectiveness of green roofs for alleviating non-point source pollution; (2) present the criteria of economic analysis; and (3) estimate benefits by using the replacement cost approach. The Cheonggyecheon watershed in Seoul, Korea is selected as a study area because of its large impervious surface, and XP-SWMM is used for rainfall-runoff and water quality simulations. Our analyses showed that 817,884 kg/yr, 683,781 kg/yr, 452,758 kg/yr, and 356,523 kg/yr of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) loading can be reduced in the four scenarios (S-1 > 65 m(2); S-2 > 100 m(2); S-3 > 200 m(2); S-4 > 300 m(2)) based on building roof area, respectively. And the benefits for 30 years resulting from those scenarios were estimated to be United States Dollars (USD) 257.3 million, USD 228.8 million, USD 174.6 million, and USD 149.2 million with currency exchange rate 1USD = 1,182 KRW. We expect that this study will contribute to a more economically accurate assessment for the validity of green roof projects to sustain environmental health in urban areas.</P>

      • Emergence of Panton-Valentine leucocidin-positive ST8-methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (USA300 clone) in Korea causing healthcare-associated and hospital-acquired bacteraemia

        Jung, J.,Song, E. H.,Park, S. Y.,Lee, S. R.,Park, S. J.,Sung, H.,Kim, M. N.,Kim, S. H.,Lee, S. O.,Choi, S. H. Springer Science + Business Media 2016 European journal of clinical microbiology & infect Vol.35 No.8

<P>Panton-Valentine leucocidin (PVL)-positive sequence type (ST)8-MRSA-SCCmec IVa (USA300) is the epidemic strain of community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) in North America. USA300 is extremely rare in South Korea, and PVL-negative ST72 SCCmec type IVc is the predominant CA-MRSA clone. In a multicentre, prospective cohort study of S. aureus bacteraemia, we identified PVL-positive ST8-MRSA isolates by performing multilocus sequence typing and PCR for PVL. We analyzed the clinical characteristics of patients with PVL-positive ST8-MRSA bacteraemia, and performed SCCmec, spa, and agr typing, PCR for arginine catabolic mobile element (ACME), virulence gene profiling, and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). Among a total of 818 MRSA isolates, we identified ten isolates of PVL-positive ST8-MRSA (USA300) (3 from Hospital D, 4 from Hospital G, and 3 from Hospital A), all of which involved exclusively healthcare-associated (5 isolates) and hospital-acquired bacteraemia (5 isolates). This strain accounted for 8 similar to 10 % of the hospital-acquired MRSA bacteraemia in Hospitals D and G. Bacteraemia of unknown origin was the most common type of infection followed by pneumonia. All the isolates were SCCmec type IVa, spa type t008, and agr group I. Eight of the isolates harboured ACME. In a PFGE analysis, four isolates were identical to the USA300 control strain, five differed by a single band, and the remaining one differed by two bands. All the isolates were pulsed-field type USA300. This is the first report of healthcare-associated and hospital-acquired bacteraemia caused by USA300 in South Korea. USA300 seems to be an emerging hospital clone in this country.</P>

Vol.2011 No.5

In this study, we conducted a series of s-rail forming tests by using sheet sheets with the grades of 340, 440, 590,and 780MPa and then compared formability as well as springback behaviors in the final s-rail products. Various types of drawbeads, i.e. without-bead, locking-bead, and smooth-bead, were applied to the s-rail forming die in order to examine the effect of bead on the s-rail formability and springback. The dimensions of experimentally obtained s-rail products were measured for comparison with finite element predictions. From the comparison, we could confirm that the experimental deformation behaviors agreed well with the finite element predictions in terms of the dependence on sheet sheet grade. The quantitative data of formability and springback for different grades of sheet sheets would be very useful for developing car body parts using high strength steel sheets which are increasingly required by automakers recently.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci Isolated from Bovine Mastitis Between 2003 and 2008 in Korea

        ( J. M. Kim ),( S. K. Lim ),( J. S. Moon ),( Nam H. M. ),( H. M. Kang ),( G. C. Jang ),( S. H. Wee ),( Y. S. Joo ),( S. C. Jung ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2010 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.20 No.10

A total of 1,444 coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) isolates from bovine mastitic milk samples collected during 2003-2008 in Korea were identified to the species level. Of 14 species identified, S. simulans, S. haemolyticus, and S. sciuri accounted for over 60% of the isolates. All the CNS isolates were tested for susceptibility to eight antimicrobials commonly used in dairy cattle. With a few exceptions, similar resistance patterns were observed among the CNS species: penicillin and ampicillin showed the lowest activity, whereas amikacin, cephalothin, and gentamicin were highly effective. About 39% (557/1,444) of the CNS isolates were pan-susceptible, whereas 12% (175/1,444) showed resistance to four or more antimicrobials tested.
