Objective: To investigate the association between pre-treatment thrombocytosis and prognosis in patients with ovarian cancer (OC). Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library were searched for articles regarding the prognosis of OC patients with pre-treatment thrombocytosis by the end of March 2018. Pooled estimates for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) events were calculated as hazard ratios (HRs) either on a fixed or random effect model by Stata 13.0 software. Funnel plot and Egger's test were applied to evaluate publication bias and sensitivity analyses were undertaken to estimate the strength of outcomes. Results: Eleven studies that met the inclusion criteria were enrolled, including a total of 4,953 patients. Pooled results showed that pre-treatment thrombocytosis was significantly associated with OS (HR=1.722; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.437–2.064) and PFS (HR=1.452; 95% CI=1.323–1.593) in the cohort. Significant correlation was found in OS and PFS between pre-treatment thrombocytosis and both epithelial OC (all stages and differentiation degrees of OC) and advanced epithelial OC (III or IV) by subgroup analyses, which were performed according to publication year, country, case numbers, OC category, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage, and cut-off value. However, subgroup analyses indicated no significant correlation between pre-treatment thrombocytosis and OS for patients with high-grade serous (poorly differentiated or undifferentiated) OC (HR=1.220; 95% CI=0.946–1.573; p=0.125). Egger's test demonstrated no obvious publication bias in the articles enrolled in this study (OS: p=0.226; PFS: p=0.071). Conclusion: Pre-treatment thrombocytosis might be taken as an independent prognostic indicator for patients with OC.

Trypsin inhibitors and lectins are defense proteins produced by many organisms. From Chinese ‘Large Black Soybeans’, a 60 kDa lectin and a 20 Da trypsin inhibitor (TI) were isolated using chromatography on Q-Sepharose, Mono Q, and Superdex 75. The TI inhibited trypsin and chymotrypsin with an IC?? of 5.7 and 5 μM, respectively. Trypsin inhibitory activity of the TI was stable from pH 3 to 13 and from 0 to 65℃. Hemagglutinating activity of the lectin was stable from pH 2 to 13 and from 0 to 65℃. The TI was inhibited by dithiothreitol, signifying the importance of disulfide bond. The TI and the lectin inhibited HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (IC??=44 and 26 μM), and proliferation of breast cancer cells (IC??=42 and 13.5 μM) and hepatoma cells (IC??=96 and 17 μM). The hemagglutinating activity of the lectin was inhibited most potently by Larabinose. Neither the lectin nor the TI displayed antifungal activity.

The simulation of dynamic fluid structure interaction for AGARD WING 445.6 was done in the ANSYS WORKBENCH solved by means of CFX-5 and ANSYS-11 commercial codes. The research model has an aspect ratio of 1.6525, a panel taper ratio of 0.6576 with a leading-edge sweepback angle of 45ºset at a condition of zero total lift. And the simulation modeled and analyzed structure dynamic problem (including modes analysis) and aeroelastic flutter problem (including frequencies, velocity and dynamic pressure). During analyzing the aeroelasic problem, the fully FSI was utilized which is specialized for the cases in which the structure deforms and significantly affects the flow field including the aerodynamic flutter wings. The whole process followed the normal process included geometric modelling, mesh generation and solving finally. The results obtained from simulation were compared with the work of E. Carson Yates et al. [Measured and Calculated Subsonic and Transonic Flutter Characteristics of a 45º degree Sweptback Wing Planform in Air and Freon-12 in the Langley Transonic Dynamic Tunnel. NASA Technical Note D-1616, 1963] to see aeroelasticity characteristics of the wing under subsonic and transonic situations.

Background: Some reports have suggested that chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients have a higher prevalence of M-bcr than acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients, which show a higher prevalence of m-bcr. However, the relationship between BCR-ABL subtypes and progression of CML and ALL remains unclear. Materials and Methods: 354 CML chronic phase (CML-CP) patients, 26 CML blastic phase (CML-BP) patients and 72 ALL patients before treatment with BCR-ABL positive were recruited for blood routine examination and bone marrow smear cytology. Some 80 CML-CP and 32 ALL patients after imatinib (IM) treatment were followed-up for BCR-ABL relative concentrations detected after treatment for 3, 6 and 9 months and 1 year. Results: Before treatment, CML-CP patients showed lower BCR-ABL relative concentrations with a higher proportion of M-bcr (42.7%) compared to CML-BP and ALL patients while ALL patients had a higher BCR-ABL relative concentration with high expression of m-bcr (51.4%). Patients with M-bcr demonstrated higher WBC counts than those with m-bcr and the mixed group and higher PLT counts were noted in the CML-CP and ALL groups. After imatinib (IM) treatment, patients with m-bcr showed higher BCR-ABL relative concentrations in both CML-CP and ALL groups. Conclusions: This study identified the BCR-ABL gene as an important factor in CML and ALL cases. The M-bcr subtype was associated more with CML while the m-bcr subtype was associated more with ALL. Patients with m-bcr seem to have a poorer response to IM in either CML or ALL patients compared to M-bcr patients.

Two new butyrolactones, asperphenol A (1) and B (2), together with four known butyrolactones (3-6) were isolated from the fermentation products of an endophytic fungus Aspergillus versicolor. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including extensive 1D- and 2D-NMR techniques. Compounds 1-6 were also tested for their anti-tobacco mosaic virus (anti-TMV) activities. The results showed that compound 2 exhibited high anti-TMV activity with inhibition rate of 46.7%. The other compounds also exhibited potential anti-TMV activities with inhibition rates in the range of 21.8-28.4%.
Instance segmentation with pyramid integrated context for aerial objects

Aerial objects are more challenging to segment than normal objects, which are usually smaller and have less textural detail. In the process of segmentation, target objects are easily omitted and misdetected, which is problematic. To alleviate these issues, we propose local aggregation feature pyramid networks (LAFPNs) and pyramid integrated context modules (PICMs) for aerial object segmentation. First, using an LAFPN, while strengthening the deep features, the extent to which low-level features interfere with high-level features is reduced, and numerous dense and small aerial targets are prevented from being mistakenly detected as a whole. Second, the PICM uses global information to guide local features, which enhances the network's comprehensive understanding of an entire image and reduces the missed detection of small aerial objects due to insufficient texture information. We evaluate our network with the MS COCO dataset using three categories: airplanes, birds, and kites. Compared with Mask R-CNN, our network achieves performance improvements of 1.7%, 4.9%, and 7.7% in terms of the AP metrics for the three categories. Without pretraining or any postprocessing, the segmentation performance of our network for aerial objects is superior to that of several recent methods based on classic algorithms.
Expression and characterization of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase of Ectropis obliqua virus

Replication of positive-strand RNA virus is mediated by a virus- encoded RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp). To study the replication of Ectropis obliqua virus (EoV), a newly identified insect virus belonging to the family Iflaviradae, we expressed the RNA polymerase domain in Escherichia coli and purified it on a Ni-chelating HisTrap affinity column. It is demonstrated that EoV RdRp initiated RNA synthesis in a primer- and poly (A)-dependent manner in vitro. Furthermore, the effect of primer concentration, temperature, metal ions (Mg2+, Mn2+, and K+) on enzymatic activity were determined. Our study represented a first step towards understanding the mechanism of EoV replication. [BMB reports 2010; 43(4): 284-290]
Dynamic Performance Analysis of Capture and Separation Process for a Microsatellite Docking Device

Aiming at the problem of short lifetime and high cost in the on-orbit Servicing technology, a new type of automatic autonomous probe-cone docking mechanism used for microsatellite docking is proposed which can realize on-orbit special services. The structure of the mini docking mechanism is provided according to the design indices, and a virtual prototype model of the mini-type universal docking system is established by using MATLAB software. The dynamics modeling of the docking process is presented based on the virtual work principle. The simplified dynamic analysis model during the capture process is established. The dynamic characteristic analysis of the catching process is completed to research the influence of the key parameters, and the virtual prototype model of the docking device is established through ADAMS for further verifying the proposed design. The analysis shows that this mechanism has the good capacity of capture and separation process and energy absorption to reduce the impact during the docking process. And the simulation results meet the design demands of mini-type universal autonomous docking mechanism.
