AniDiary: Daily Cartoon-Style Diary Exploits Bayesian Networks
Sung-Bae Cho,Kyung-Joong Kim,Keum Sung Hwang,In-Ji Song IEEE 2007 IEEE PERVASIVE COMPUTING Vol.6 No.3
<P>AniDiary (Anywhere Diary) uses Bayesian networks to automatically detect landmark events and summarize a user's daily life in a cartoon-style diary. Our goal was to summarize a given user's daily life with a cartoon-style diary based on information collected from mobile devices such as smart phones. Our system, AniDiary (Anywhere Diary), addresses two main problems of typical diary systems-the huge number of events originating from the real-life log and the awkward presentation of the output. Using modular Bayesian networks, AniDiary can detect and visualize landmarks (relevant or novel events) and transform numerous logs into user-friendly cartoon images. The cartoons provide a good starting point for fine-grained searches of detailed information. For example, users can link each cartoon to rich media (photos or videos) that offer more details, reducing the search space and letting users easily recall the linked details.</P>
Effect of Thermal Cycle and Nitrogen Content on the Hot Ductility of Boron-bearing Steel
Cho, Kyung Chul,Mun, Dong Jun,Kang, Myeong Hun,Lee, Jae Sang,Park, Joong Kil,Koo, Yang Mo The Iron and Steel Institute of Japan 2010 ISIJ international Vol.50 No.6
<P>Hot ductility of Boron (B)-bearing steel has been examined in view of slab corner cracking problem. Addition of B to the low carbon steel reduced its hot ductility under a thermal cycle in which samples were cooled directly to the test temperature before straining. The change in hot ductility of B-bearing steel with deformation temperature showed one trough in the temperature range of 800–1000°C, which covered the lower temperature region of austenite single phase (region (I)), and near the austenite/ferrite transformation temperature (Ae3) (region (II)). An abrupt temperature decrease and reheating before straining heavily deteriorated the hot ductility of B-bearing steel in the region (I). In all steels, the strain concentration in the film-like ferrite primarily reduced hot ductility in region (II) regardless of the addition of B and the thermal cycles before straining. The ductility reduction of B-bearing steel is caused by the distribution and amount of BN precipitation, which is determined by the thermal cycles and the N content. Increase in the N content remarkably reduced hot ductility of B-bearing steel in region (I), where the behavior of BN precipitates controlled hot ductility. The results shows that the improvement of hot ductility in B-bearing steel can be attained by decreasing the N content and by avoiding an abrupt temperature decrease in the secondary cooling stage of the slab after solidification.</P>
A proposal for a novel staging system in renal pelvicaliceal urothelial carcinomas
Cho, Kang Su,Cho, Dae Sung,Choi, Young Deuk,Hong, Sung Joon,Kim, Se Joong,Cho, Nam Hoon Elsevier 2007 Human pathology Vol.38 No.11
<P><B>Summary</B></P><P>Renal caliceal urothelial carcinomas, which have characteristic microanatomies in which the tumor directly interfaces to the renal parenchyma without intervening muscle propria, are often overstaged using the existing staging system. Relying on our analysis of 150 renal caliceal and/or pelvic urothelial carcinomas, we propose a novel staging scheme based on the extent of invasion relative to the corticomedullary junction (CMJ). Tumors were classified as category pT2 when renal parenchymal invasion was present within the CMJ and where the renal papillae and medulla were dominant. Tumors going over the CMJ were classified as pT3 with the proposed new scheme. It is very important to exclude pagetoid spread along the collecting ducts/ducts of Bellini to evaluate true invasion into the renal parenchyma. Using this revised staging scheme, 38.5% of tumors that were previously classified as pT3 were reclassified into the pT2 or pT1 groups. On multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression analysis, the extent of CMJ invasion and peripelvic fat invasion were the most significant prognostic indicators (<I>P</I> < .001, HR, 9.308; <I>P</I> = .016, HR, 2.538, respectively). In the new scheme, pT3 tumors showed a tendency to be classified toward the pT4 stage, whereas pT2 tumors were classified closer to the pT1 stage than to the pT3 (pT3 vs pT4, <I>P</I> = .0127; pT3 vs pT2, <I>P</I> < .0001). Renal parenchymal invasion beyond the CMJ has a strong prognostic impact for renal caliceal carcinomas. Using this new staging scheme, we can more precisely evaluate the level of tumor invasion.</P>

Background: Recently dermoscopic characteristics mainly vascular structures of molluscum contagiosum (MC) have been described and there has been no study on dermoscopic features of central located white structures. Objectives: To evaluate the dermoscopic findings of MC based on white structures and vascular structures. Methods: After confirming presence of Henderson Paterson bodies under a microscope dermoscopic images were taken and evaluated. Results: We evaluated 178 lesions. Vascular structures found in 167 lesions (93.8%) and were classified into single vascular patterns and mixed patterns. Crown or crown+radial arrangement accounts for 77.6%. White structures found in 175 lesions (98.3%) were white circle (33.7%) fourleaf clover like (28.7%) polylobular (22.5%) and unspecific structure (13.5%). Fourleaf clover like structure shows tendency to be a feature of smaller lesions while polylobular structure shows tendency to be a feature of larger lesions. Also some polylobular structures were consist of fourleaf clover like and white circle like lobules. It is possible to explain that initial smaller lesion which has fourleaf clover like structure may proliferate into larger lesion which has polylobular structure. Conclusion: In addition to typical vascular patterns recognition of morphology of white structures could aid diagnosis of MC.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of Dandelion (Taraxzcum coreanum) supplementation on milk yield, milk composition and blood characteristics in lactating dairy cows. Eight lactating dairy cows were divided into two groups (control: TMR supplementation, treatment: TMR with Dandelion supplementation). The milk yield, milk fat, lactose, solids not fat (SNF) and somatic cells counts (SCC) were not significantly different between the control group and the treatment group, whereas milk protein, milk urea nitrogen (MUN) and free fat acid (FFA) were significantly higher in the treatment group compared to the control (p<0.05). The blood components of the treatment group were compared with those of the control group and only aspartate aminotransferase (AST) appeared significantly high (p<0.05). The other blood components were not significantly different in the two groups. Blood corpuscle components in the groups were not significantly different. Especially, all blood corpuscle components in the treatment group were within the normal range. However, the white blood cells (WBC), lymphocytes (LYM) and hematocrits (HCT) in the control group exceeded the normal range. Based on the above results, the addition of Dandelion to feed increased milk protein, MUN and FFA, but did not significantly affect the composition of the blood and corpuscle in Holstein milking cows.

<P>Because plasma cell leukemia (PCL) is a rare and distinct variant among plasma cell dyscrasias, recent clinical and cytogenetic studies have been performed in different ethnic groups to define the characteristics of these PCL patients. As far as we know, IGH rearrangements involving t(11;14) and (14;16) are significantly more frequent in PCL than in myeloma patients. However, PCL cases associated with t(6;14)(p21;q32) or IGH-CCND3 rearrangement are extremely rare in the literature; only one PCL case with t(6;14) has been documented. A 61-year-old female was admitted due to fatigue, weight loss, and exertional dyspnea. Plasmacytoid cells were counted up to 76% at a peripheral blood film, but bone marrow aspiration failed because of dry-tapping. Flow cytometric analysis showed positive for CD138 and cytoplasmic kappa light chain. Chromosome analysis revealed t(6;14)(p21;q32), which was confirmed by an IGH split-out probe in FISH analysis. Immunofixation electrophoresis also presented monoclonal bands identified as IgG and kappa light chain. Finally, she was diagnosed as primary PCL associated with t(6;14) and IGH rearrangement. Although considerable advances have been made in the understanding of the biology and molecular pathogenesis of PCL, further clinical, laboratory, and genetic studies of PCL associated with such a rare IGH rearrangement would be necessary in the future. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of PCL associated with t(6;14) as a sole chromosomal abnormality.</P>
