        Mechanical splices has been applied in nuclear power plant according to ASME(American Society of Mechanical Engineering) and ACI(American Concrete Institute) Code requirements. In particular sleeve with ferrous filler metal splices and cold roll formed parallel threaded splices have been used in domestic nuclear power plants. The objective of this study is to find out the constructability of the mechanical splices which had been used in Korea nuclear job site and to review the technical trends in the near future.

        The Effect of Luteolin on the Modulation of Vascular Contractility via ROCK and CPI-17 Inactivation

        In this investigation, we made a study of the efficacy of luteolin (a flavonoid found in plants such as vegetables, herbs and fruits) on vascular contractibility and to elucidate the mechanism underlying the relaxation. Isometric contractions of denuded muscles were stored and combined with western blot analysis which was conducted to assess the phosphorylation of myosin phosphatase targeting subunit 1 (MYPT1) and phosphorylation-dependent inhibitory protein for myosin phosphatase (CPI-17) and to examine the effect of luteolin on the RhoA/ROCK/CPI-17 pathway. Luteolin significantly alleviated phorbol ester-, fluoride- and thromboxane mimetic-elicited contractions regardless of endothelial nitric oxide synthesis, implying its direct effect on smooth muscle. It also significantly alleviated the fluoride-elicited elevation in pCPI-17 and pMYPT1 levels and phorbol 12,13-dibutyrate-elicited increase in pERK1/2 level, suggesting depression of ROCK and PKC/MEK activity and ensuing phosphorylation of MYPT1, CPI-17 and ERK1/2. Taken together, these results suggest that luteolin-elicited relaxation includes myosin phosphatase reactivation and calcium desensitization, which seems to be arbitrated by CPI-17 dephosphorylation via ROCK/PKC inhibition.

      • 울진원자력발전소 주변 소나무림의 종조성과 군락 특성

        울진원자력발전소 주변 소나무림의 종조성과 군락특성을 1994년 3월부터 95년 2월까지 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 소나무군락은 상수리나무하위군락과 산철쭉하위군락으로 분류되었으며, 전조사방형구 내에서 출현한 종수는 총 116종으로 상수리나무하위군락과 산철쭉하위군락에서 방형구당 출현종수는 각각 28종, 23종으로 나타났다. 소나무군락의 계층별 평균 수고와 식피율은 상수리나무하위군락에서 교목층이 각각 13.5m와 78.8%, 아교목층이 6m와 37.5%, 관목층이 1.9m와 53.6%, 초본층이 0.4m와 64.4%, 산철쭉하위군락에서는 교목층이 13m와 83.8%, 아교목층이 5.5m와 52.5%, 관목층이 1.9m와 57.5%, 초본층이 0.6m와 69.4%로 나타났다. 피복지수에 의한 계층별 우점순위는 교목층과 아교목층에서 각각 소나무가 8437.5, 1111.3으로 나타났고 관목층에서 진달래(2638.5), 초본층에서 큰기름새(1048.2)가 가장 높게 나타났다. 소나무의 DBH별 분포를 보면 11-15cm급이 상수리나무하위군락과 산철쭉하위군락에서 각각 29.1%(4.2 individuals/a), 26.7%(4.5 individual/a)로 가장 높게 나타났다. 현존식생도에 따른 각 식생형의 분포면적은 소나무림이 133.1k㎡(80.5%), 경작지와 주거지 28.7k㎡(16.2%), 곰솔림 1.8k㎡(1.1%) 순으로 나타났다. 녹지자연도의 등급별 분포는 7등급(이차림)이 70.4%, 2등급(경작지와 주거지) 17.4%, 8등급(이차림) 11.6%, 4등급(벌목지) 0.2%, 6등급(인공조림지) 0.1% 순으로 나타났다. Montreal model에 의한 소나무림의 식물현존량은 3,077,327.8ton으로 산정되었다. The floristic composition and community characteristics of Pinus densiflora forest in vicinity of Ulchin Atomic Power Plant were surveyed from March, 1994 through February, 1995. The results obtained are summarized as follows: The Pinus densiflora community was classified into the subcommunity of Quercus acutissima and Rhododendron yedoence var. poukhanense. The total number of species appearing in the entire surveyed quadrats was 116 sepcies, then 28 and 23 species per quadrat in Quercus acutissima subcommunity and Rhododendron yedoence var. poukhanense subcommunity, respectively. Tree height and vegetation cover by the layer of the Pinus densiflora community were 5m and 78.8% in tree layer, in subtree layer(6m, 37.5%), in shrub layer(1.9m, 53.8%) and in herb layer(0.4m, 64.4%) in Quercus acutissima subcommunity, and in tree layer(13m, 83.8%), in subtree layer(5.5m, 52.5%), in shrub layer(1.9m, 57.5%) and in herb layer(0.6m, 69.4%) in Rhododendron yedoence var. poukhanense subcommunity. The dominance sequences on each stratum determined by the coverage index showed that Pinus densiflora was most dominant in tree layer with 8437.5 and in subtree layer with 1111.3, Rhododendron yedoence var. poukhanense in shrub layer with 2638.5, and Spodiopogon sibiricus in herb layer with 1048.2 value. The highest value of diameter breast height(DBH) distritued in the range of 11~15cm in Quercus acutissima subcommunity(29.1%, 4.2 individuals/a) and Rhododendron yedoence var. poukhanense subcommunity(26.7%, 4.5 individuals/a), respectively. The distribution area of each vegetation type in the actual vegetation map was 80.5% in Pinus densiflora forest, 16.2% in cultivated land and residential section, and 1.1% in Pinus thunbergii forest. The distribution of the degree of green naturality(DGN) was 70.4% in the 7th grade(second forest), 17.4% in the 2nd grade(cultivated land and residential section), 11.6% in the 7th grade(second forest), 0.2% in the 4th grade(cutted area), and 0.1% in the 6th grade(afforestation). It was estimated that phytomass of Pinus densiflora in the study sites, which was calculated by Montreal model, was 3,077,327.8ton.

        The Effect of Galangin on the Regulation of Vascular Contractility via the Holoenzyme Reactivation Suppressing ROCK/CPI-17 rather than PKC/CPI-17

        In this study, we investigated the influence of galangin on vascular contractibility and to determine the mechanism underlying the relaxation. Isometric contractions of denuded aortic muscles were recorded and combined with western blot analysis which was performed to measure the phosphorylation of phosphorylation-dependent inhibitory protein of myosin phosphatase (CPI-17) and myosin phosphatase targeting subunit 1 (MYPT1) and to evaluate the effect of galangin on the RhoA/ROCK/CPI-17 pathway. Galangin significantly inhibited phorbol ester-, fluoride- and thromboxane mimetic-induced vasoconstrictions regardless of endothelial nitric oxide synthesis, suggesting its direct effect on vascular smooth muscle. Galangin significantly inhibited the fluoridedependent increase in pMYPT1 and pCPI-17 levels and phorbol 12,13-dibutyrate-dependent increase in pERK1/2 level, suggesting repression of ROCK and MEK activity and subsequent phosphorylation of MYPT1, CPI-17 and ERK1/2. Taken together, these results suggest that galangin-induced relaxation involves myosin phosphatase reactivation and calcium desensitization, which appears to be mediated by CPI-17 dephosphorylation via not PKC but ROCK inactivation.

        일반물리학 강좌에서 자기질문 전략이 대학생의 메타인지 능력에 미치는 영향

        본 연구의 목적은 일반물리학 강좌에 적용한 자기질문 기회를 제공하는 학습 전략이 학습자의 메타인지 능력에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것이다. 이를 위해 20명의 대학생을 대상으로 한 학기 동안 일반물리학 강좌에서 ‘이미 알고 있는 내용은?(K)’, ‘새롭게 배운 내용은?(L)’, ‘아직 이해되지 않은 내용은?(U)’ 등 3가지 질문으로 구성된 KLU Note를 작성하게 하고 학기 초와 학기 말 학생들의 메타인지 능력을 조사하여 그 변화를 조사하였다. 또한 KLU Note 작성에 대한 학생들의 평가를 알아보기 위해 설문조사 및 면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 자기질문 전략을 적용한 KLUNote를 성실하게 작성하는 것이 학생들의 메타인지 능력의 향상을 가져왔으며 학생들이 수업 내용을 정리하고 이해하지 못한 부분을 파악하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of self-questioning strategy on college students metacognition. In a general physics class, 20 college students used a self-questioning strategy, KLU Note, which consists of 3 questions: What I have Known(K) , What I Learned(L) , What I am Uncertain about(U) . The results of this study show that the group that fully filled out KLU Note increased in the abilities using a metacognition strategy more than the group that did not, and that KLU Note was helpful for students to summary what was taught during class and to perceive what they did not understand.

        Effect of Kaempferol on Modulation of Vascular Contractility Mainly through PKC and CPI-17 Inactivation

        In this study, we investigated the efficacy of kaempferol (a flavonoid found in plants and plant-derived foods such as kale, beans, tea, spinach and broccoli) on vascular contractibility and aimed to clarify the detailed mechanism underlying the relaxation. Isometric contractions of divested muscles were stored and linked with western blot analysis which was carried out to estimate the phosphorylation of myosin phosphatase targeting subunit 1 (MYPT1) and phosphorylation-dependent inhibitory protein for myosin phosphatase (CPI-17) and to estimate the effect of kaempferol on the RhoA/ROCK/CPI-17 pathway. Kaempferol conspicuously impeded phorbol ester-, fluoride- and a thromboxane mimetic-derived contractions regardless of endothelial nitric oxide synthesis, indicating its direct effect on smooth muscles. It also conspicuously impeded the fluoride-derived elevation in phospho-MYPT1 rather than phospho-CPI-17 levels and phorbol 12,13-dibutyrate-derived increase in phospho-CPI-17 and phospho-ERK1/2 levels, suggesting the depression of PKC and MEK activities and subsequent phosphorylation of CPI-17 and ERK1/2. Taken together, these outcomes suggest that kaempferol-derived relaxation incorporates myosin phosphatase retrieval and calcium desensitization, which appear to be modulated by CPI-17 dephosphorylation mainly through PKC inactivation.

        증례 / 대장균에 의한 다발성 신농양 환자에서 발생한 가역성 단백 상실성 장병증 1례

        Protein-losing enteropathy is characterized by excessive protein loss into the intestinal tract in association with various disorders. We report a case of reversible protein-losing enteropathy as a cause of severe hypoalbuminemia in a patient with multiple renal abscesses. A 61-year-old woman presented with high fever and left flank pain. Abdominal computed tomography showed multiple abscesses in the left kidney. E. coli was cultured from her blood. Although hypoalbuminemia was severe (1.9 g/dL), the liver function tests including prothrombin time were normal and urine protein was negative. The results of 99mTc-human serum albumin scintigraphy were compatible with protein-losing enteropathy. Alpha-1 -antitrypsin clearence was 89 ml/24 hours (normal range <13 ml/24 hours). After the renal abscess was improved with antibiotic therapy, serum albumin increased to normal range and protein-losing enteropathy disappeared.

        Incidences and Prognostic Impact of c-KIT, WT1, CEBPA, and CBL Mutations, and Mutations Associated With Epigenetic Modification in Core Binding Factor Acute Myeloid Leukemia: A Multicenter Study in a Korean Population

        Background: To identify potential molecular prognostic markers in core binding factor (CBF) AML, we analyzed incidences and prognostic impacts of mutations in c-KIT, WT1, CEBPA, CBL, and a number of epigenetic genes in CBF AML. Methods: Seventy one and 21 AML patients with t(8;21) and inv(16) were enrolled in this study, respectively. NPM1, CEBPA, c-KIT, IDH1/2, DNMT3A, EZH2, WT1, and CBL mutations were analyzed by direct sequencing. Patients were categorized with respect to c-KIT and WT1 mutation status, and both clinical features and prognoses were compared. Results: The incidences of FLT3 internal tandem duplication (ITD), NPM1, CEBPA, IDH1/2, DNMT3A, EZH2, and CBL mutations were low (≤5%) in CBF AML patients. However, c-KIT and WT1 mutations occurred frequently (10.9% and 13.8%, respectively). t(8;21) patients with c-KIT mutations showed significantly shorter overall survival (OS) and disease free survival (DFS) periods than those without mutations (P<0.001, for both); however, although the limited number of t(8;21) patients were analyzed, WT1 mutation status did not affect prognosis significantly. Relapse or death during follow-up occurred more frequently in t(8;21) patients carrying c-KIT mutations than in those without the mutation, although the difference was significant only in a specific patient subgroup with no WT1 mutations (P=0.014). Conclusions: The incidences of mutations in epigenetic genes are very low in CBF AML; however, c-KIT and WT1 mutations occur more frequently than others. The poor prognostic impact of c-KIT mutation in t(8;21) AML patients only applies in a specific patient subgroup without WT1 mutations. The prognostic impact of WT1 mutation in CBF AML is not evident and further investigation is required.

      • p-Coumaric acid stimulates longitudinal bone growth through increasing the serum production and expression levels of insulin-like growth factor 1 in rats

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of p-coumaric acid on the longitudinal growth of the long bone in adolescent male rats. Teatment with p-coumaric acid significantly increased the tibial length and the height of each growth plate zone and the ratio of 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine-positive cells relative to total proliferative cells. Expression of insulin-like growth factor 1 and its receptor in the proliferative and hypertrophic zones, and serum levels of growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor 1 were significantly increased as well in the p-coumaric acid-treated group. Via increasing both the serum level of insulin-like growth factor 1 and its expression, p-coumaric acid could promote cell proliferation in growth plate zones. These results suggest that p-coumaric acid has the potential to increase height and may be a feasible alternative to growth hormone therapy.</P>
