<P>We developed a new synthetic method for bicyclo[2.2.2]octadiene (BCOD)-fused porphyrin (<B>1</B>), a tetrabenzoporphyrin (TBP, <B>2</B>) precursor that is well-known as a good material for use in organic electronic devices. Orbit Ephemeris Failure Detection in a GNSS Regional Application

To satisfy civil aviation requirements using the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), it is important to guarantee system integrity. In this work, we propose a fault detection algorithm for GNSS ephemeris anomalies. The basic principle concerns baseline length estimation with GNSS measurements (pseudorange, broadcasted ephemerides). The estimated baseline length is subtracted from the true baseline length, computed using the exact surveyed ground antenna positions. If this subtracted value differs by more than a given threshold, this indicates that an ephemeris anomaly has been detected. This algorithm is suitable for detecting Type A ephemeris failure, and more advantageous for use with multiple stations with various long baseline vectors. The principles of the algorithm, sensitivity analysis, minimum detectable error (MDE), and protection level derivation are described and we verify the sensitivity analysis and algorithm availability based on real GPS data in Korea. Consequently, this algorithm is appropriate for GNSS regional implementation.
S-672 Mycoplasma pneumoniae-associated Fuchs syndrome

Background: Fuchs syndrome is a rare and atypical variant of Stevens-Johnson syndrome with prominent mucocutaneous involvement without skin lesions.?Mycoplasma pneumoniae?infection was frequently associated with Fuchs syndrome in children. However, there has been only one report of?M. pneumoniae-associated Fuchs syndrome in a boy in Korea. Here, we report a case of?M. pneumoniae-associated Fuchs syndrome in an adult.?Case: A 26-year-old Indonesian woman was admitted with pain in oral cavity for 1 week. She had had fever and nonproductive cough a week before admission. Oral mucosa and lips covered with erosive and ulcerative lesions with serofibrinous exudates. Conjunctivae were hyperemic with mild discharge. Lt vaginal vulva showed ulcerative lesion on gynecologic examination. Macular lesions were scattered on the trunk and both arms and hands. Chest X-ray and chest computed tomography showed pleural effusion and subsegmental atelectasis on both basal lungs. Initial complete blood counts and biochemical analyses were normal. Serum IgM antibodies to?M. pneumoniae?was positive. Serology tests to HSV, EBV and CMV were all negative. We started systemic glucocorticoids (methylprednisolone, 1 mg/Kg, IV) and antibiotics (levofloxacin, IV) with topical steroids and dressing for stomatitis, conjunctivitis, and vulvovaginal ulcer. About 10 days after treatment, the patients recovered almost completely without any sequelae and was discharged.?Conclusions: Fuchs syndrome is a rare variant of Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Physician should recognize the characteristic features for early diagnosis of the syndrome.

Activation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), a member of the mitogen-activated protein kinase family, is an important cellular response that modulates the outcome of the cells which are exposed to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) or the genotoxic stress including DNA damaging agents. Although it is known that JNK is activated in response to genotoxic stress, neither the pathways to transduce signals to activate JNK nor the primary sensors of the cells that trigger the stress response have been identified. Here, we report that the receptor interacting protein (RIP), a key adaptor protein of TNF signaling, was required to activate JNK in the cells treated with certain DNA damaging agents such as adriamycin (Adr) and 1-Ղ-D-arabinofuranosylcytosine (Ara-C) that cause slow and sustained activation, but it was not required when treated with N-methyl-N-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) and short wavelength UV, which causes quick and transient activation. Our findings revealed that this sustained JNK activation was not mediated by the TNF (tumor necrosis factor) receptor signaling, but it required a functional ATM (ataxia telangiectasia) activity. In addition, JNK inhibitor SP-600125 significantly blocked the Adr-induced cell death, but it did not affect the cell death induced by MNNG. These findings suggest that the sustained activation of JNK mediated by RIP plays an important role in the DNA damage-induced cell death, and that the duration of JNK activation relays a different stress response to determine the cell fate.

Purpose: ω-5 gliadin is the major allergen that causes wheat-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis (WDEIA). Recently, a missing mutant wheat cultivar at 1B chromosome Glu-B3 and closely linked Gli-B1 loci was bred. This cultivar (ω5D) has a deficiency in ω-5 and γ-gliadins as well as some low-molecular-weight glutenins. We evaluated specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE) reactivity of the ω5D in WDEIA patients compared to wild-type cultivar. Methods: Serum samples from 14 WDEIA and 7 classic wheat allergy patients were used to compare the allergenicity of ω5D and wild-type cultivars using immunoglobulin E immunoblotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and ImmunoCAP inhibition assays. Results: Immunoblotting revealed that ω5D extracts had less sIgE binding to gliadins and glutenins in WDEIA sera than wild-type extracts. Immunoblot inhibition assay for gliadin sIgE reactivity also showed that ω5D gliadins had less allergenicity than wild-type gliadins. ELISA inhibition assay showed stronger allergenicity of gliadins than glutenins, although they had cross-reactivity. This assay also showed that the 50% inhibitory concentrations (IC50) of ω5D extracts against gliadin- or glutenin-sIgE reactivity were approximately 4-fold higher in WDEIA patients than those of wild-type extracts. The inhibition capacity of ω5D gliadins against recombinant ω-5 gliadin-sIgE reactivity was also lower in WDEIA patients than that of wild-type. Conclusions: The allergenicity of the ω5D cultivar is markedly lower for WDEIA patients in the sIgE inhibition tests. These results suggest that the ω5D cultivar may be a safe alternative for WDEIA patients.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Sub-metre-scale patch reefs composed primarily of stromatoporoids and bryozoans are reported from the Duwibong Formation (upper Middle Ordovician), Taebaeksan Basin, Korea, in the eastern margin of the Sino-Korean Block. The reef framework is constructed of alternating thin laminae of the primitive labechiid stromatoporoid <I>Cystostroma</I>, the bryozoan <I>Nicholsonella</I>, subordinate <I>Solenopora</I> and minor siliceous sponges. Alternating laminae of stromatoporoids and bryozoans are largely responsible for the formation of a globular framework composed of columnar, branching, bulbous to irregular masses. <I>Solenopora</I> sporadically occurring as tiny patches or thin laminae attached to the stromatoporoid–bryozoan framework is considered to be subordinate encrusters. Siliceous sponges occur within the stromatoporoid–bryozoan framework and within the growth framework and bored cavities, interpreted as subordinate encrusters and cryptic dwellers. The compact globular framework of the Duwibong stromatoporoid–bryozoan consortium represents a new type of Ordovician skeletal bioconstruction, but with a certain structural similarity to Lower Ordovician bryozoan reefs in the South China Block. Together with coeval labechiid reefs occurring near the current study area, the Duwibong reefs suggest that incursion of the primitive stromatoporoids into the earliest bryozoan reefs resulted in the dominance of reef-building stromatoporoids in peri-Gondwana in contrast to coeval reefs in Laurentia, which commonly contain tabulate corals.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The oldest stromatoporoid–bryozoan reefs are documented from Middle Ordovician of Korea. </LI> <LI> The reefs resemble the earliest bryozoan reefs in structure and shape. </LI> <LI> The reefs differ in biologic makeup from coeval Laurentian examples. </LI> <LI> The pathway of earliest skeletal reef evolution may have been different among regions. </LI> </UL> </P>
