It has been shown that piRNA is the largest class of small non-coding RNA in germline cells of animals which plays key roles in transposons regulation and transcriptional activities. In the present study, piRNAs from two small RNA libraries including ovary and testis of Nile tilapia were identified and characterized. By length and k-mer based small RNA prediction algorithm, 279,059 and 583,230 small RNA reads were confirmed as piRNA from ovary and testis, respectively. The identified piRNAs showed evolutionarily conserved characterization, such as uridine bias in the 50 ends. The 142,961 and 296,775 piRNAs from ovary and testis were mapped to the draft assembly of the tilapia genome, respectively. Both ovary and testis piRNAs were enriched from linkage (LG)6 and LG7. Meanwhile, the even distribution of ?strand and -strand suggested the Ping–pong pathway (a double-displacement reaction of ?strand and -strand) hypothesis. These piRNAs were derived from the upstream -2 kb and downstream ?2 kb as well as gene regions which suggested a regulatory function on transcription activities. In gene regions, abundant piRNAs were derived from 50UTR, 30UTR and CDS. Furthermore, we characterized the differentially expressed piRNAs between ovary and testis. In total, 1979 and 2453 piRNAs were significantly higher and lower expressed in ovary compared to that in testis, respectively. Thereinto, the most concentrated up-regulate and down-regulate piRNAs were both from serine/threonine– protein kinase PIM genes of different transcripts. These findings will be helpful to facilitate studies on the piRNAs regulation on genes during gonad development of teleosts.

This paper proposes a dynamic surface control-based neuroadaptive finite-time control method for induction motors (IMs) with full-state constraints and iron losses. Firstly, the barrier Lyapunov function is introduced to constrain the state variables of IMs, which ensures that the rotor angular velocity and stator current of motor are always in the given range. Secondly, the neural networks (NNs) and dynamic surface control technology are applied to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions and solve the “complexity of differentiation” problem, respectively. Then the finite-time control technology is utilized to accelerate the response speed of the system and realize the fast and effective tracking of the desired signal. At last, the effectiveness of the method is illustrated by simulation results.
Antiviral Effect of Retro-2.1 against Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 In Vitro

Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection has been a public health concern worldwide. It is the leading cause of genital herpes and a contributing factor to cervical cancer and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. No vaccine is available yet for the treatment of HSV-2 infection, and routinely used synthetic nucleoside analogs have led to the emergence of drug resistance. The small molecule Retro-2<sup>cycl</sup> has been reported to be active against several pathogens by acting on intracellular vesicle transport, which also participates in the HSV-2 lifecycle. Here, we showed that Retro-2.1, which is an optimized, more potent derivative of Retro-2<sup>cycl</sup>, could inhibit HSV-2 infection, with 50% inhibitory concentrations of 5.58 μM and 6.35 μM in cytopathic effect inhibition and plaque reduction assays, respectively. The cytotoxicity of Retro-2.1 was relatively low, with a 50% cytotoxicity concentration of 116.5 μM. We also preliminarily identified that Retro-2.1 exerted the antiviral effect against HSV-2 by a dual mechanism of action on virus entry and late stages of infection. Therefore, our study for the first time demonstrated Retro-2.1 as an effective antiviral agent against HSV-2 in vitro with targets distinct from those of nucleoside analogs.

Effects of illumination with xenon or sulfur lamp on growth of tomato seedlings were studied. Results showed no obvious differences in net photosynthetic rate and apparent quantum efficiency. In comparison with xenon lamp, illumination with sulfur lamp slightly reduced ChI a and ChI b content in leaves, relatively shortened epicotyl and hypocotyl length, but significantly increased anthocyanin content of leaves and promoted root growth of tomato seedling plants.
One-Step Synthesis of Immobilized BiOCl Film with Excellent Adsorption Capacity for Dyes

A facile one-step method was developed for the first time to fabricate BiOCl film on Cu substrate by simply dipping the Cu substrate in the mixed solution containing HCl, glycol, H2O2 and BiCl3. This method shows the advantages of a simple technique, uniform and controllable morphology, as well as easy mass production. The absorption capacity of BiOCl film was investigated by adsorption of Rhodamine B and Congo red (CR) and their maximum adsorption capacities were 1667 mg g-1 and 1429 mg g-1, respectively. The negative values of free energy and the positive values of enthalpy suggested that the adsorption were spontaneous and endothermic, respectively. Moreover, both adsorptions were matched with the pseudo-second-order equation. This film could be reused and the recycle rates for Rhodamine B and CR were still about 95% and 75% after five cycles, respectively. The adsorption mechanism revealed that hydrogen bond mainly accounted for the adsorption of dyes.

In this paper, the problem of full state constraints-based adaptive fuzzy finite-time command filtered control (FTCFC) is investigated for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) stochastic systems. Firstly, the barrier Lyapunov functions are introduced to avoid the violation of the state constraints. Then, the unknown nonlinear functions are approximated by the fuzzy logic systems (FLSs) in PMSM stochastic systems. Furthermore, the finite-time control method is proposed by combing command filtered backstepping and adaptive fuzzy control, and the improved finite-time command filter can solve the problem of “explosion of complexity”, and relax the condition of input signal. It is shown that the required tracking performance can be realized in finite time, and the boundedness of all signals in the closed-loop system is guaranteed. Finally, simulation results illustrate the validity of the studied method.
Microwave absorption and photocatalytic activity of MgxZn1−x ferrite/diatomite composites

Mg x Zn 1−x ferrite/diatomite composites were synthesized by a two-step combination process (hydrothermal method and mechanical mixing method). The products were characterized by X-ray diff raction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), UV–visible absorption spectrum (UV–Vis), X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS), and microwave vector network analyzer. The photocatalytic results showed that the degradation rate of Rhodamine B (RhB) was 50–90% after 90 min of visible light. At 2–18 GHz frequency, when the Mg–Zn ratio increases to 0.8, the refl ection loss of a single MgxZn 1−x ferrite reaches − 7.23 dB at 8.75 GHz frequency in 3.5 mm thickness while the ratio is 0.2, the refl ection loss at 10.23 GHz reaches − 4.07 dB. The photocatalytic performance of Mgx Zn 1−x ferrite /diatomite composite for the degradation of RhB and its microwave absorption performance as absorbent are studied. The importance of developing new functional coatings to improve human environment is discussed.
