The purpose of this study was to explore the current status of education for nursing management in Korea. Methods: A descriptive study was done using a questionnaire developed by the investigators. The data were collected by survey from 96 out of 129 nursing schools, between December 2010 and February 2011. Results: For 22.9% of nursing schools, there was no faculty for nursing management. The credits and subjects included in nursing management varied among the nursing schools. Lectures in subjects related to nursing management were given not only by nursing management faculty but also by faculty with other majors. There were more faculty and credits for nursing management courses in 4-year nursing schools than in 3-year schools. Conclusion: To improve the quality of education in nursing management, there is a need to standardized courses and provide nursing faculty who have majored in nursing management.

In this study, the antibacterial activity of Aronia melanocarpa (black chokeberry) ethanol extract against Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Cronobacter sakazakii, and Salmonella Enteritidis was investigated using the spot-on-lawn assay. The results showed that this extract exhibited antibacterial activities against Bacillus cereus (complete inhibition) and Staphylococcus aureus (partial inhibition), but did not inhibit the growth of Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella Enteritidis. This study shows that the Aronia melanocarpa (black chokeberry) ethanol extract was more effective against Gram-positive bacteria than Gram-negative bacteria. Hence, it is suggested that Aronia melanocarpa could be a useful food supplement, and could be utilized as a naturally derived additive for maintaining the safety of various dairy products. Furthermore, future research should be conducted to examine the possibility of using such products as functional ingredients for improving the anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities of food products.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the actual care costs paid to Korean Oncology Advanced Practice Nurses (KOAPN). Methods: We collected data using a group discussion and questionnaire identified 115 tasks from job descriptions developed by the Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing. Forty-two KOAPN working at three university hospitals in Seoul were asked to evaluate each task as to type and whether the cost is paid or not. They were also asked to indicate the tasks in urgent need of development of a care cost with high priority. Results: Only five tasks (4.3%) related to treatment and complication related interventions or education were paid, and they were paid only once during the entire treatment period and were not covered by national health insurance. It was approved as a medical fee by health insurance review & assessment service. Furthermore, the names of the authority (doctor) and the actual provider (nurse) of the prescriptions were different for three of those tasks. Most of the suggested tasks needing development of care costs were actions specifically performed by nurses (physical-psychosocial-spiritual assessment, independent nursing interventions). Conclusion: KOAPN are currently paid for few tasks. To maximize the utilization of KOAPN, the establishment of a clear rational payment system directly related to their actual activities is needed.

수소에너지는 광범위한 적용분야와 배출물의 공해가 적다는 장점으로 인해 화석에너지의 대체에너지원으로 주목받고 있으며, 이에 따라 수소충전소 및 수소 자동차에 대한 정부의 지원 사업이 진행되고 있다. 수소에너지의 도입으로 인해 국내외에서 크고 작은 수소 폭발 사고가 발생해 수소에너지의 안전성 개선이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 FVM (Finite Volume Method) 기반 상용 열유동 수치해석 프로그램인 ANSYS Fluent를 사용하여 수소충전소 사무실 폭파 실험의 실험조건을 동일하게 적용한 수치해석 결과를 토대로 CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)의 타당성을 검증하였다. 또한, 실험과 동일한 폭발조건으로 off site 수소충전소에 대해 수소 누출 정도에 따른 폭발 시뮬레이션을 수행하였으며, 계산 결과를 바탕으로 시간 및 위치에 따른 위험요인을 분석하여 향후 수소 충전소의 안전성을 향상시킬 수 있는 방안에 활용하고자 한다.

Watering crops inside the soil is more efficient in terms of water saving than outside watering. To resolve this problem, we use the drip irrigation system which is used the Drip irrigation pipe. This system can save water by evenly supplying water directly into the roots of the crops. To determine which shape has good pressure drop, this study compares the two commercial Drip irrigation pipe and analyzes experiment and computational values through CFD. For calculation through CFD, the shape of the Drip irrigation pipe was produced in CAD based on actual measurement and calculated through ANSYS. Experiment used a water pump and was measured every 20 kPa in the range from 100 to 400 kPa.. This paper reports the advantages and disadvantages of both Drip irrigation pipes.

A core genetic map of the legume Medicago truncatula has been established by analyzing the segregation of 288 sequence-characterized genetic markers in an F2 population composed of 93 individuals. These molecular markers correspond to 141 ESTs, 80 BAC end sequence-tags, and 67 resistance gene analogs, covering 513 cM. In the case of EST-based markers we used an intron-targeted marker strategy, with primers designed to anneal in conserved exon regions and amplify across intron regions. Polymorphisms were significantly more frequent in intron vs exon regions, thus providing an efficient mechanism to map transcribed genes. Genetic and cytogenetic analysis produced eight well-resolved linkage groups, which have been previously correlated with eight chromosomes by means of FISH with mapped BAC clones. We anticipated that mapping of conserved coding regions would have utility for comparative mapping among legumes; thus 60 of the EST-based primer pairs were designed to amplify orthologous sequences across a range of legume species. As an initial test of this strategy, we used primers designed against M. truncatula exon sequences to rapidly map genes in Medicago sativa. The resulting comparative map, which includes 68 bridging markers, indicates that the two Medicago genomes are highly similar, and establishes the basis for a “Medicago” composite map.

Cross-species translation of genomic information may play a pivotal role in applying biological knowledge gained from one species to other genomes. Abiotic stress-responsive genes in Arabidopsis have been translated to a legume model system, Medicago truncatula. A total of 1,370 Arabidopsis genes were identified by searching TAIR database, expression profiling data and literatures. For purposes of cross-genome identification of orthologous genes, tBlastX or BlastP were employed between these two model systems. Candidate genes potentially associated with abiotic stress responses were classified into 18 functional criteria and corresponding genomic locations were analyzed by Circos program. To do this, user-friendly bioinformatic analysis platform was established. In order to discover abiotic stress-associated genes, gene network and/or interactome analyses were conducted using a combination of AraNet web-based platform and CytoScape program. As a result, we could identify 240 key genes that appeared to play an important role within central gene networks. We anticipate that these genes may impact molecular breeding programs by developing them into genetic markers and discovering trait-associated nucleotide variations.
