        Expression and Immunogenicity of SARSCoV-2 Virus-Like Particles based on Recombinant Truncated HEV-3 ORF2 Capsid Protein

        COVID-19 is an emerging disease that poses a severe threat to global public health. As such, there is an urgent demand for vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Here, we describe a virus-like nanoparticle candidate vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 produced by an E. coli expression system. The fusion protein of a truncated ORF2-encoded protein of aa 439~608 (p170) from hepatitis E virus CCJD-517 and the receptor-binding domain of the spike protein from SARSCoV-2 were expressed, purified and characterized. The antigenicity and immunogenicity of p170-RBD were evaluated in vitro and in Kunming mice. Our investigation revealed that p170-RBD selfassembled into approximately 24 nm virus-like particles, which could bind to serum from vaccinated people (p < 0.001) and receptors on cells. Immunization with p170-RBD induced the titer of IgG antibody vaccine increased from 14 days post-immunization and was significantly enhanced after a booster immunization at 28 dpi, ultimately reaching a peak level on 42 dpi with a titer of 4.97 log10. Pseudovirus neutralization tests showed that the candidate vaccine induced a strong neutralizing antibody response in mice. In this research, we demonstrated that p170-RBD possesses strong antigenicity and immunogenicity and could be a potential candidate for use in future SARS-CoV-2 vaccine development.

      • A Novel Multiple Attribute Decision Making Framework based on Hamacher Operations in Patron Driven Acquisitions Mode of Library Management

        As a fuzzy set extension, the hesitant set is effectively used to model situations where it is allowable to determine several possible membership degrees of an element to a set due to the ambiguity between different values. Some new hesitant fuzzy operational rules are introduced based on the Hamacher t-conorm and t-norm, whereby we present a multi attribute decision making method under hesitant fuzzy information. In the daily management of library, book selection problem usually is very complex and unstructured, because variety of uncontrollable and unpredictable factors affects the evaluation and decision-making process at different levels. By integrating the multiple attribute decision making method with (Patron Driven Acquisitions, PDA) mode, a novel multiple attribute decision making framework based on Hamacher operations in PDA mode is proposed to select the best book providing the highest satisfaction for the attributes determined in this paper. Finally, a case study is so demonstrated to verify the reliability and applicability of the proposed framework.

        Performance differences of Rhode Island Red, Bashang Long-tail Chicken, and their reciprocal crossbreds under natural cold stress

        Objective: The Bashang Long-tail chicken (BS), an indigenous Chinese breed, is considered cold tolerant. We selected BS, the Rhode Island Red (RIR), and their reciprocal crossbreds for the present study. The objectives were: i) to validate whether BS is cold tolerant and whether egg production and cold tolerance of crossbreds could be improved; and ii) to determine the physiological characteristics that underlie cold tolerance and favorable egg production performance in cold environments. Methods: A total of 916 chickens were reared in warm and natural cold environments (daily mean ambient temperature varied from $7.4^{\circ}C$ to $26.5^{\circ}C$ in the warm environment and from $-17.5^{\circ}C$ to $27.0^{\circ}C$ in the cold environment). To investigate their adaptability to the cold environment, the egg production performance and body weight were monitored and compared between breeds and environments. The cloacal temperature and serum biochemical parameters were monitored to reveal the physiological characteristics underlie cold tolerance and favorable egg production performance in the cold environment. Results: The warm environment experiment showed that RIR had the highest egg production performance, and that the reciprocal crossbreds had a higher egg production performance than BS. While in the cold environment RIR had the lowest egg production performance, and the reciprocal crossbreds had a higher egg production performance than BS. In the cold environment BS and reciprocal crossbreds had higher triiodothyronine, tetraiodothyronine levels than RIR. At 35 and 39 wk of age, when the ambient temperature was extremely low (varied from $-20^{\circ}C$ to $0^{\circ}C$), serum glucose, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, estradiol of BS and crossbreds were higher than RIR. Conclusion: Bashang Long-tail chicken has a favorable cold tolerance ability. Crossbreeding with RIR and BS is an effective way to develop cold tolerant chickens with improved egg production performance.

      • Empirical analysis on the performance of Chinese listed companies merged and acquired by foreign investors

        The paper uses economic value added (EVA) as a tool to analyze whether foreign-capital merger and acquisition (M&A) can effectively improve the performance of listed companies in China and the impact degree of the type of foreign-capital M&A on its performance, which will provide investment decision support for a listed company before its acquisition in order to achieve the rational use of foreign capital to integrate the resources. Using the modified EVA system, the paper compares vertically and analyzes the performance of M&A listed companies by foreign capital during 2003-2006 according to one year before, the year, one year after, and two years after the foreign-capital M&A, and examines the performance before and after M&A of the listed companies of horizontal, vertical and mixed M&A to verify whether foreign-capital M&A can bring value creation for listed companies in China. The results show that all the sample companies'average EVA is increased year by year after M&A from one year before to two years after the M&A. Foreign-capital M&A activities helps to improve the performance of the listed companies, and it creates value for the company; Different types of M&A results in different M&A performance, seeing from the average EVA, horizontal M&A companies'performance is increased year by year in the three years from the year before to the year after M&A, which demonstrates horizontal M&A can promote the company's development by scale economy effect in a short of time and create M&A value. The performance of vertical M&A and mixed M&A companies are all first decreased then increased,"@which shows that performanceproducing needs a process for both the vertical M&A focusing on the transaction costs reduce and the mixed M&A designed to achieve diversification operations of the company, in this process, the company's performance may even fall down temporarily. Both vertical M&A and mixed M&A have certain of risk, the successfully integration after M&A is the key to the expected effects. Through internal market transactions, vertical M&A can expedite supply and marketing channels, reduce the uncertainty of risk and cost, obtain the purpose of enhancing the stability of company development; while through diversification operations, mixed M&A can realize industry transformation of the company to foster new earnings point, thus disperse risk, and improve corporate performance.

        Catalytic combustion of volatile aromatic compounds over CuO-CeO2 catalyst

        Ce1−xCuxO2 oxide solid solution catalysts with different Ce/Cu mole ratios were synthesized by the one-pot complex method. The prepared Ce1−xCuxO2 catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and H2 temperature-programmed reduction (H2-TPR). Their catalytic properties were also investigated by catalytic combustion of phenyl volatile organic compounds (PVOCs: benzene, toluene, xylene, and ethylbenzene) in air. XRD analysis confirmed that the CuO species can fully dissolve into the CeO2 lattice to form CeCu oxide solid solutions. XPS and H2-TPR results indicated that the prepared Ce1−xCuxO2 catalysts contain abundant reactive oxygen species and superior reducibility. Furthermore, the physicochemical properties of the prepared Ce1−xCuxO2 catalysts are affected by the Ce/Cu mole ratio. The CeCu3 catalyst with Ce/Cu mole ratio of 3.0 contains abundant reactive oxygen species and exhibits superior catalytic combustion activity of PVOCs. Moreover, the ignitability of PVOCs is also affected by the respective physicochemical properties. The catalytic combustion conversions of ethylbenzene, xylene, toluene, and benzene are 99%, 98.9%, 94.3%, and 62.8% at 205, 220, 225, and 225 oC, respectively.

        Suppression of long non-coding RNA PCAT19 inhibits glioma cell proliferation and invasion, and increases cell apoptosis through regulation of MELK targeted by miR-142-5p

        Background Glioma has the chief type of primary brain tumors worldwide. The glioma may be controlled by regulatorsincluding some lncRNAs, miRNAs, and proteins. Objective Our study aims to discover the underlying mechanism for lncPCAT19/miR-142-5p/MELK axis in gliomaprogression. Methods The clinical samples were from patients with gliomas in our Hospital. Hematoxylin–eosin staining (H&E) wasapplied to determine the clinical pathological changes. Real time PCR was performed to measure the levels of lncPCAT19,miR-142-5p, MELK, and expression of other genes. Western blot was conducted to detect the protein level of MELK. RIPassay was performed to analyze the interaction between lncPCAT19 and miR-142-5p, and dual-luciferase reporter assay wasused to determine the binding site between lncPCAT19 and miR-142-5p. CCK-8, colony formation assay, flow cytometry,and trans-well assay were carried out to confirm cell proliferation, colony formation, apoptosis, and invasion, respectively. Results LncPCAT19 was increased in cancer tissues. Then, lncPCAT19 could interact with and down-regulate miR-142-5p. Knockdown of lncPCAT19 distinctly inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Interfering lncPCAT19/overexpression of miR-142-5pdecreased glioma cell proliferation, colony formation and invasion, and promoted cell apoptosis by down-regulating expressionof Cyclin B1, CDK2, N-cadherin, Bcl-2, and by up-regulating expression of Bax and E-cadherin. Moreover, overexpressionof lncPCAT19 overturned tumor-suppressing role of miR-142-5p in cells. Additionally, lncPCAT19 and miR-142-5psynergistically regulated expression of MELK. In conclusion, lncPCAT19 enhanced glioma development via increasingMELK by performing as a sponge of miR-142-5p. Conclusions LncPCAT19 promotes glioma progression by sponging miR-142-5p to upregulate MELK levels. Thus, lncPCAT19/miR-142-5p/MELK signaling would be a potential target for glioma treatment.

        Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-Associated Urogenital Disease: A Current Update

        Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2, which is quickly spreading around the world and causes coronavirus disease 2019, may attack the urogenital system. We thought that a summary of the current literature about urogenital disease associated with the virus would be useful for physicians treating patients with coronavirus disease 2019. PubMed was com-prehensively screened for studies published from 2019 to 2020. Studies of coronavirus disease 2019 patients with kidney dis-ease, reproductive system diseases, or urological cancer were included. Through reviewing current literature, we summarized that acute kidney injury is a risk factor for patients with coronavirus disease 2019 and is related to their survival. A diagnosis of chronic kidney disease increases the risk of infection. The therapy for kidney transplant patients should be cautious and implemented on a case-by-case basis. When the public health burden is too heavy to bear, a rational selection of treatment for patients with urological cancer is vital. The male reproductive system is at high risk of being attacked by the virus, which may cause damage to reproductive function, and the long-term effects require further study. So, the complications associated with the urogenital system should not be ignored during the course of infection treatment and more robust evidence of long-term effects on the urogenital system will be proposed as more studies are published.

        Radon-induced demethylation of Cdk2 CpG island in the rat lung

        Radon exposure has been linked to lung carcinogenesisin both human and animal studies. The identificationof sequential changes in DNA methylation duringtumour progression and the elucidation of their interplaywith genetic changes will broaden our molecular understandingof this disease. Rats were exposed to 120 or 400working level months (WLM) of radon, lung pathologicalchanges were examined by haematoxylin and eosin staining,lung single cell suspension cell cycles were detected byflow cytometry, lung cell cycle regulated gene (Cdkn2a,P53, Cdk4/2, Mdm4/2 and Rb1 genes) expression wasquantified by real-time PCR and methylation of CpG islandsin the promoters of cell cycle-regulated genes were detectedby bisulfite sequencing PCR. The alveolar walls of rat lungsafter exposured to radon exhibited papillae and the lungbronchial epithelial cells stained positively for proliferatingcell nuclear antigen. The bronchial epithelial cells displayedsome hyperplasia after challenged by 400 WLM of radon. Moreover, G1 arrest decreased; Rb1, Mdm2/4, and Cdk2/4expression decreased and Cdk2 was demethylated at thesecond and sixth CpG loci from base pairs 3092704 to3092953 of chromosome 7. Cdk2 demethylation may beapplicable as a biomarker of early lung damage that wasinduced by radon and other environmental carcinogens.
