FPGA Implementation for Binocular Stereo Matching Algorithm Based on Sobel Operator

Aiming at the low accuracy of stereo matching algorithm caused by the larger gray change, an improved algorithm is proposed. Sobel operator is used to compute the gradient of pixels. Based on the gradient histogram, the adaptive thresholds are derived and the support window is determined automatically. The neighbor pixels are compared with the average of all pixels in the window instead of the center pixel to complete the census transform. The disparity image is abtained through searching the best match point in the left and right images. The hardware implementation with parallel procssing is elaborately designed to improve the capability of the large data processing and computational efficiency based on FPGA. The experimental results show that the improved scheme and hardware structure can obtain disparity map with higher accuracy and stronger robustness.

Purpose We investigated the role of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) on the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) of colorectal cancer cells and determined the potential mechanism involved in the metastatic process. Materials and Methods In this study, flow cytometry was used to detect the expression of target proteins. We used transwell assay to evaluate the migration of cancer cells under specific conditions. Using real-time polymerase chain reaction, we examined the expressions of cytokines and EMTrelated markers in mRNA level. Animal assay was performed for analysis in vivo and hematoxylin and eosin was used to visualize the effect of TAMs on tumor metastasis. We also used immunohistochemistry and Western blotting to detect the expression of target proteins. Results Here, we observed enrichment of TAMs in colorectal tumor tissues, resulting in high metastasis in clinical therapy. Moreover, those TAMs could facilitate the EMT progression of colorectal cancer cells, which is induced by the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) derived from TAMs, leading to the invasion and migration of cancer cells. Conclusion Our results demonstrated that TAMs contributed the EMT progression through a TGF-β/ Smad2,3-4/Snail signaling pathway, and disrupting this pathway with TGF-β receptor inhibitor could suppress metastasis, readjusting our focus to the connection of TAMs and cancer metastasis.

Design of Smart Home Monitoring System Based on ARM and Power Line Carrier Communication

For the shortcoming of smart home monitoring system(SHMS), such as high spend of wiring, difficulty of maintenance, poor penetration using traditional communication etc.., designed a SHMS based on embedded system. By using LPC2000 series processor as a core, selecting power line carrier communication (PLCC) module for interior communication mode, GSM for remote communication mode, and then transplanting RTOS μC/OS-II, the system can monitor environment, security of home. The results indicate that SHMS has the advantages of convenient installation, low cost, easy to upgrade, can realize the local and remote control.
An Adaptive Energy-Efficient and Low-Latency MAC Protocol forWireless Sensor Networks

In this paper, an adaptive MAC protocol (variable load adaptive (VLA)-MAC) is proposed for wireless sensor networks. This protocol can achieve high energy efficiency and provide low latency under variable-traffic-load conditions. In the case of VLA-MAC, traffic load is measured online and used for adaptive adjustment. Sensor nodes transmit packets in bursts under high load conditions to alleviate packet accumulation and reduce latency. This also removes unnecessary listen action and decreases energy consumption in low load conditions. Simulation results show that the energy efficiency, latency, and throughput achieved by VLA-MAC are higher than those achieved by some traditional approaches.

<i>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</i> injects NDK into host cells through a type III secretion system

<P><I>Pseudomonas aeruginosa</I> is a Gram-negative opportunistic human pathogen possessing a type III secretion system (T3SS) which injects toxic effector proteins into mammalian host cells. In previous studies, <I>P. aeruginosa</I> strains lacking all of the known type III effectors were shown to cause cytotoxicity upon prolonged infection time. In this study, we report the identification of a new cytotoxin, nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDK), which is injected into eukaryotic cells in a T3SS-dependent manner. Injection of NDK is inhibited by the presence of previously known effectors of the T3SS, with an effectorless strain injecting the highest amount, suggesting active competition with the known T3SS effectors. NDK is shown to cause a cytotoxic response when expressed in eukaryotic cells, and <I>P. aeruginosa</I> strains harbouring NDK also show a greater toxicity than strains lacking it. Interestingly, the cytotoxic effect of intracellular NDK is independent of its kinase activity. In previous studies, NDK was shown to be secreted into culture supernatants via a type I secretion system and cause cytotoxicity in a kinase-dependent manner. Therefore, the current study highlights an alternative route of NDK secretion as well as two different cytotoxic mechanisms of NDK, depending on the extra- or intra-cellular location of the protein.</P>
Online broadband grid impedance estimation method based on multi‑objective optimized random PWM

Grid-connected inverter (GCI)-based online grid impedance estimation (GIE) can be used in the fields of grid state monitoring, fault diagnosis, and the stability control of grid-connected equipment, which can collectively improve the intelligence of GCI. However, the available frequency range of GCI-based GIE is limited by the bandwidth of the controller because a perturbation signal is injected into the reference current. To broaden the bandwidth of grid impedance estimation, an online GIE technology based on multi-objective optimized random pulse width modulation (MOO-RPWM) is proposed in this paper. Besides taking advantage of the harmonic dispersion characteristic of RPWM, the distribution of the switching frequency is further optimized by the constraints on the measurement accuracy and the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the grid current. Moreover, the frequency boundary is constrained by the frequency range of GIE, the stability of the system, and power loss. A genetic algorithm (GA) is applied to obtain the switching frequency sequence that satisfies the optimization targets. A single-phase grid-connected inverter system is built on a StarSim hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platform to verify that MOO-RPWM-based GIE has the advantages of a broad GIE range, high accuracy, and low disturbance.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in the process of cell fate determination. However, their function and expression profiles have not yet been systematically investigated during the transdifferentiation of glial precursor cells derived from dorsal root ganglia (DRG) in the peripheral nervous system. Our results demonstrated significant differences in gene architecture and expression among the three transcript types (lncRNA, mRNA, and TUCP). Distinct differences in transcript length, exon number, and ORF length were identified between lncRNAs and mRNAs after comparative analysis of their structure and sequence conservation. We found that the upregulated lncRNAs outnumbered the downregulated lncRNAs in glial precursor cells cultured with proBDNF antiserum compared with the levels in glial precursor cells cultured without proBDNF antiserum. By a series of GO and KEGG analyses, we found that the effects of some lncRNAs on their target genes in cis were related to nerve growth factor-induced cell cycle, cell phenotype change, and neuronal differentiation. The qRT-PCR verification results of lncRNAs ENSRNOT00000091991, ENSRNOT00000087717, and LNC_000429 were mostly consistent with the sequencing results. The candidate lncRNAs may be associated with the neuronal transdifferentiation of glial precursor cells. Our study provides the first evidence for a remarkably diverse pattern of lncRNA expression during neuronal differentiation of glial precursor cells from rat DRG, and also provides a resource for lncRNA studies in the field of cell differentiation.
