Topology-based Workflow Scheduling in Commercial Clouds

Cloud computing has become a new paradigm by enabling on-demand provisioning of applications, platforms or computing resources for clients. Workflow scheduling has always been treated as one of the most challenging problems in clouds. Commercial clouds have been widely used in scientific research, such as biology, astronomy and weather forecasting. Certainly, it is very important for a cloud service provider to pursue the profits for the commercial essence of clouds. This is also significantly important for the case of providing services to workflow tasks. In this paper, we address the issues of workflow scheduling in commercial clouds. This work takes the communication into account, which has always been ignored. And then, a topology-based workflow-scheduling algorithm named Resource Auction Algorithm (REAL) is proposed in the objective of getting more profits. The algorithm gives a good performance on searching for the optimum schedule for a sample workflow. Also, we find that there exists a certain resource amount, which gets the most profits to help us get more enthusiasm for further developing the research. Experimental results demonstrate that the analysis of the strategies for most profits is reasonable, and REAL gives a good performance on efficiently getting an optimized scheme with low computing complexity.

<P>Doping is a widely implemented strategy for enhancing the inherent electronic properties of charge transport layers in photovoltaic (PV) devices. Here, in direct contrast to existing understanding, we find that a reduction in p-doping of the organic hole transport layer (HTL) leads to substantial improvements in PV performance in planar p-i-n perovskite solar cells (PSCs), driven by improvements in open circuit voltage (<I>V</I>OC). Employing a range of transient and steady state characterisation tools, we find that the improvements of <I>V</I>OC correlate with reduced surface recombination losses in less p-doped HTLs. A simple device model including screening of bulk electric fields in the perovskite layer is used to explain this observation. In particular, photoluminescence (PL) emission of complete solar cells shows that efficient performance is correlated to a high PL intensity at open circuit and a low PL intensity at short circuit. We conclude that desirable transport layers for p-i-n PSCs should be charge selective contacts with low doping densities.</P>

A novel eudesmane-type sesquiterpene compound, 1-oxoeudesm-11(13)-eno-12,8a-lactone (OEL), was isolated from Aster himalaicus. Its effect on apoptosis in human breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7) cells was investigated. MTT assay showed that OEL substantially reduced the viability of KB, MCF-7, U87, A172, and MG-63 cells. MCF-7 cells were used to further evaluate the antitumor effects and anticancer mechanisms of OEL. OEL-induced apoptosis was characterized by chromatin condensation, formation of apoptotic bodies, and phosphatidylserine on extracellular surface; these effects were confirmed by DAPI nuclear staining and flow cytometry. Increased expression of Bax and deceased expression of Bcl-2 were also observed in OELtreated MCF-7 cells. Moreover, OEL induced the loss of mitochondria membrane potential, release of cytochrome C, activation of caspase-9, and generation of reactive oxygen species. These findings indicate that reactive oxygen species generation and mitochondria activation were involved in apoptosis induced by OEL in MCF-7 cells. The results from our study demonstrated that OEL may be a promising pro-apoptotic compound that could be used to develop novel anticancer drugs.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Targeting Based on Image Matching

Aiming at the problem of low accuracy of the target for one UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), an UAV target location method based on image matching is presented according to the data of video and photograph as well as the information of the digital map. Firstly, using the improved artificial matching method, the UAV aerial images are jointed based on the digital map to obtain the coordinates information. Then, the UAV video frame resolution containing the target is improved by the improving method of super-resolution reconstruction. Finally, making use of the improved SIFT algorithm, the video frames are registered with the aerial photo to complete the location of the target. Results prove that this method can achieve the target location without the UAV’s position and attitude information, while improving the precision and speed of target location, this method is an effective one for target location based on the image matching in the battlefield.
