The fish fauna and Community were surveyed from April 2000 to September 2001 at 23 stations in the nam river, the first tributary located to the lower reach of the Nakdong River system. During the study period, 39 species belonging to 29 genera and 11 families were collected. Of which 14 species are endemic species or subspecies in Korea. Introduced species from other river system, O. bidens had not been collected at all after the report of Yang(1973) but many individuals were captured at main stream and tributary in this survey. Introduced species from abroad M. salmoides increased at most of stations. Dominant species in main stream were Z. platypus, O. bidens and H. labeo. On the contrary, Z. temmincki, Z. platypus and S. gracilis majimae dominated the tributaries. Diversity indices of main stream and tributaries were 0.979 and 0.966 respectively. St. 3 of main stream and St. 1 and 16 of tributaries had high diversity indices(1.05, 0.962, 0.956) and lower dominant indices(0.102, 0.369, 0.200). As a whole, dominant index was 0.160, diversity index 0.044 and evenness index 0.656. It indicated that the community structure of this river was stable and diverse relatively.

Damselfish (Actinopterygii, Perciformes, Pomacentridae) are a diverse and widespread family consisting primarily of marine fish found throughout tropical oceans, and they are major members of coral reef communities. The phylogenetic relationships among the pomacentrids are highly controversial due to their dramatic and complicated morphological variations, and there are striking differences between the traditional phylogeny, which is based on morphologies, and the molecular phylogeny, which is based on DNA sequences. In the present study, the phylogenetic relationships among the pomacentrids were investigated using partial mitochondrial 16S rDNA sequences from 40 species, 19 genera, and 3 subfamilies. The partial 16S rDNAs from the four pomacentrid species (Pomacentrus coelestis, Pomacentrus bankaensis, Chromis fumea and Abudefduf vaigiensis) were newly sequenced in this study. Bayesian analysis based on the 16S rDNA sequences reveals that the family Pomacentridae (BPP 74%) and the subfamily Amphiprioninae (99%), Dascyllus (90%), Stegastes (100%) and Abudefduf (100%) are monophyletic groups. However, this study also shows that the subfamily Pomacentrinae may be divided into a primitive Assemblage I and an advanced Assemblage II. Pomacentrinae Assemblage II and the subfamily Amphiprioninae are grouped together (96%), and Assemblage II appears to be paraphyletic to the subfamily Amphiprioninae. Mecaenichthys immaculatus and Acanthochromis polyacanthus, which have traditionally been considered putative chromine members, appear with Chromis cyanea within Assemblage I and within Pomacentrinae Assemblage II, respectively. This study also reveals that Chromis, Amphiprion and Chrysiptera may not be monophyletic groups. These results are generally coincident with previous molecular findings. It is very likely that the traditional pomacentrid classification scheme needs to be thoroughly re-examined.

The ichthyofauna and the structure of fish community were surveyed from June to August in 2000 at four stations of the Wondong marsh, Yangsan city in Kyungnam province. During the study period, 24 species belonging to eight families were collected. Cyprinid fish occupied 62.5%(15 species) and cobitid and centrarchid fish 8.3%(each 2 species). According to relative abundance in the whole marsh, Z. platypus(23.2%) was dominant species and S. gracilis majimae(14.2%) was subdominant species. M. salmoides (9.6%), C. auratus (8.3%), P. herzi (8.3%), M, yaluensis (6.5%), M. anguillicaudatus(4.0%), L. macrochirus(3.4%), P. parva(2.8%), R. ocellatus(2.5%), C. brevicauda(2.5%), C. sinensis(2.5%) and O. platycephala(22%) were common species and C. carpio, A. rhombeus, H. labeo, S. variegatus wakiyae, S. chankaensis tsuchigae, Z. temmincki, O. bidens, S. asotus, C. herzi, R. brunneus, C. argus were rare species which occupied less than 2.0% in relative abundance. Six species of S. variegatus wakiyae, S. chankaensis tsuchigae, S. gracilis majimae, M. yaluensis, C. herzi and O. platycephala in observed species were known as endemic species. By analyzing of fish community in the surveyed area, the species diversity and evenness of the fishes were high but dominance was low. And the similarity of the fish species among the sites was mid-grade as more than 0.55 in index.
